What a pleasure it is to sit down and kiki with one of my all-time fav drag queens, proudly Singaporean Opera Tang!!! This was a long and heartfelt one, so I hope ya'll enjoy our conversation, and please follow her and go support!!
Back for a special pride month episode! I sat down with my dear friend @nebulousniang who genuinely has one of the most insane life stories I’ve ever heard. 😩
Did the whole Singapore Dream life thing perfectly — graduated from university, married her first boyfriend, had kids and a stable job of 18 years, only for her to realise she was gay and that she spent her life avoiding unhappiness rather than pursuing happiness. And now she’s Singapore’s BIGGEST LESBIAN COMEDIAN!! 🥳
Stories about coming out are rarely picture perfect. It can be messy, painful, beautiful and everything in between. Joyce is such an incredible person and was so incredibly candid about EVERYTHING - being queer, finding that out in the middle of her hetero marriage, the divorce, her relationship with her family, parenthood, her interracial relationship, quitting her job to pursue comedy and so much more 😭🏳️🌈
Promise you will love it, full video is on yt if you wanna watch our expressions and laugh at the funny edits LOL ❤️❤️❤️ Happy pride month!!
I'm back!!! Thanks for sticking around, please enjoy this episode about how life has been for me since I came out publicly online 2 years ago. It's a bittersweet journey, and a never-ending one - so... not much else to do but enjoy the ride I guess.
If you have any questions or topics to suggest, please feel free to write in to askgrowingpains@gmail.com! Sending you lots of love, see you soon while I sort out the schedule for the podcast hehe cos I'm definitely planning on sticking around.
A bonus continuation on Episode 6 because Mars and I are chronic oversharerers and literally could not help ourselves.
When you look back on your past, what kind of skeletons from the closet do you find yourself still holding onto? In this episode, we delve a little deeper with Mars, our fire-fighting, motorcycle-riding, canoe polo player extraordinaire of a guest, into how we were brought up, and our lives as students and how our choices and environments have helped shaped us into the people we are today. Buckle up, this is going to be a slightly heavier and more emotional episode - but we don't cry as much as straight up laugh at our traumas.
[TW: abuse, toxic environments, mental illness, body dysphoria]
FOODIES UNITE! Join me as I share my childhood memories of food, mistakes in grocery shopping, my favourite food shows, whether I'd ever go vegan and more. We also check in with Chew and Lisa, founder of Kausmo and get a glimpse into Singapore's food industry and how running a restaurant has been like for them. Yum!
Join me and my brother Daniel as we chat about body image, personal struggles, our fitness journeys and how we see our bodies. It's a bittersweet one, so grab a cuppa tea. TW: eating disorders & body dysmorphia
What's the tea on online dating? In this episode, my best friend Anita and I discuss the different apps we use, assess bios we see online, our best and worst dates and share our thoughts on online dating etiquette, fears and assumptions. Ghosting, catfishing, all that good stuff. Deep breath - let's do it.
In this episode, I give you an update on how it's been like to move out at 22 in Singapore and rent an apartment after 2 years. I also share about the realities of owning my own space, future plans, how much I've spent and how I've been able to afford to pay rent in the midst of the pandemic. My partner Mavis joins us to chat about how it was like shacking up for a few months and then living apart again. Oh, and a bonus storytime of really neighbours HAHA. Enjoy!
A quick introduction, trailer and context of who I am and why the podcast. Not quite a kid, not yet an adult - Growing Pains navigates the challenges of independent living as we’re thrusted into adulthood in Singapore. Stay tuned!
