Screener Squad: King of the Hill – Season 14
KING OF THE HILL – SEASON 14 REVIEW
From 1997 to 2010, The Hill family has comforted audiences with heart warming and thought provoking episodic adventures about a propane salesman who also sells propane accessories, navigating work life, marriage, and raising a boy that ain’t right. No matter what was thrown at Hank Hill (Mike Judge), Peggy Hill (Kathy Najimy), Bobby Hill (Pamela Adlon) and the assorted cast of neighbors, they have grown closer, discovered things about themselves to make them better people, and hence fourth vicariously helped the audience discover things about themselves to make themselves better people, I tell ya what. Seventeen years have passed since the final season. With Mike Judge, Greg Daniels, and Hulu on a reboot nostalgia binge, King of the Hill has returned for it’s 14th season. Hank and Peggy have been in Saudi Arabia for 8 years. Now retired and living back in Texas. Hank can re-explore his fatherhood and a new budding friendship with his now adult son Bobby Hill. Bobby, the head chef of a Texas Japanese fusion cuisine restaurant, will help his father find purpose after retirement and also find a bit of purpose of his own through romance, work, and hilarious misadventures. Bradly, Ryan, and Mike express their love of the series and what this new season gets right, gets wrong, and improves upon the foundation of the Hill legacy.

Bradly Martin (Screener Squad, Eye on the Prize, Breakfast Pub)
Bradly Martin was born in the united states and grew up on a healthy diet of sports, films, and books. A rather shy lad who kept to himself, Bradly soon discovered the best way to know a person was to know what people liked. Throughout the years Bradly became a fan of many things and a fanatic of none. From Doctor Dre, to Doctor Strange and the who’s who of Whos. From Playstation to the Dreamcast and Marvel to DC. From LeBron James to James Bond and Lord of the Rings to Lord Palmerston (or Pitt the Elder if you agree with Wade Boggs) and is a huge fan of dad jokes and randomly obscure Simpsons references. Armed with a vast knowledge of comics, films, and pop culture. Bradly traveled the world making friends and sharing takes. As a young man Bradly married the love of his life young and grew older every year with each new child brought into the brood. If trends continue, Scientists predict that .2% of Canada (where Bradly and family reside) will be populated by Bradly’s children by the year 2029. Screener Squad: Shaman
SHAMAN MOVIE REVIEW
There is missionary work all over the world, bringing the word of God to all sorts of places, even places you would not expect like a remote Ecuadorian volcano! Director Antonio Negret and writer Daniel Negret present another horror summer film feature in limited release, Shaman. Candice (Sara Canning) is all about those conversions and praising the Lord and his good works to all the indigenous people of this lost corner of the Ecuadorian world. The natives taken in by the faith are grateful for her beacon of light and joy. Candice’s personal source of happiness is her son Eliot (Jett Klyne) who’s about to be confirmed. Unfortunately, Eliot meets an unfortunate mishap after venturing into a cave the native children had warned him about. One pure hearted soul for Christ enters, and an ancient evil of darkness comes out. Father Meyer (Alejandro Fajardo) does all he can for Eliot but perhaps true salvation lies in the wisdom of the local Shaman (Humberto Morales). Candice must set aside pride in order to reach out to a practice and belief unlike her own to save her child from mysterious forces. Bradly, Kate, and Jordan hold communion and testify of their own faiths in higher powers, and discuss that cinematic dragon all demon possessed storytelling has been chasing since The Exorcist.

Highly Suspect Reviews: Freakier Friday
FREAKIER FRIDAY MOVIE REVIEW
If you want a seriously freaky friday this weekend, you should probably go see Weapons. But, if you’re looking for a retread of the 2003 film with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan only now with more folks switching bodies, well, there’s Freakier Friday. Anna (Lohan) is now a music producer and manager having given up being a rock star herself (after apparently some degree of success at it) for her daughter Harper (Julia Butters). Harper is a high schooler now and would rather be surfing than studying but the real pain in her ass is a British transplant Lily (Sophia Hammons) and the two do NOT get along. When they both get in trouble, Anna is called in for a meeting with the principal along with Lily’s single dad Eric (Manny Jacinto). Sparks fly between the two and after a very Disney channel from the 2000’s style time-passing montage, they’re getting married in a few days. Which, of course, makes Lily and Harper rage queens. So enter that ol’ magic and before you can say ‘lazy cash-in’, Harper and Anna have switched bodies and Lily has switched with Harper’s grandmother, Tess (Curtis). Anyway, you get it. This film clearly was not made for Chris, Wright, and Frank but you can’t give the ‘but it’s for kids’ excuse because two of them really liked the 2003 film. But seriously, go see Weapons instead. Otherwise we might have to suffer through Freakiest Friday and please…I beg of you…don’t let that happen.

Christopher Lawrence Cox (Founder, Da Boss, Digital Noise, Highly Suspect Reviews, Screener Squad, Deliberations of Doom)
Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas in 1992 where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar and theater management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal” turned into a full-time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site Spill.com, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. During this time, a fortuitous friendship sprung up between Chris and young Brian Salisbury, who was also a local film critic, and they merged their forces of will, and their laundry list of ideas for shows, to eventually build this community of critics. While Brian eventually followed his heart to a new family, Chris continues on with a cast of colorful folks from all over the country (and a few others).

Highly Suspect Reviews: Weapons
WEAPONS MOVIE REVIEW
Weapons has one of the most intriguing premises in recent memory. At 2:17am in Maybrook, seventeen children in the same class leave their homes and vanish in the middle of the night. Not only does Zach Cregger’s newest film sets up the audience for a mysterious and haunting story, but then reveals itself to be a sprawling character study of the people affected by the missing children. Justine Gandy (Julia Garner) is the teacher of the students who have disappeared. She’s now the town’s scapegoat and starts to go into a downward spiral with processing what has happened to the students she truly cared for. Archer Gradd (Josh Brolin) is the father of one of the missing kids and is the most vocal of the community, stopping at nothing to figure out what has happened. We also follow Paul (Alden Ehrenreich) is a cop and James (Austin Abrams) is a homeless drug addict and burglar who both get caught up in the mystery. What Cregger does so well in this film is how he intertwines each character’s story into one another and gives each of them enough weight to understand their importance to the resolution of the story. To talk about specific plot points does the film experience injustice since it’s such a satisfying watch to see the terrifying mystery unfold. Wright, Drew, Alan, and Marco discuss the sophomore effort from Zach Cregger and how it may be one of the best films of the year.

Screener Squad: Strange Harvest
STRANGE HARVEST MOVIE REVIEW
When it comes to successful harvesting, all you need is a strong work ethic, a team of farmers dedicated to the crop, and a handful of teachers with patience to cultivate the next generation of harvesters. This is community, this is life. Every once in a while though that community turns into a Wicker Man situation. Ritual replaces hard work and the rain is replaced by horrific acts of violence. Writer-director Stuart Ortiz presents Strange Harvest. The community of farmers in our allegory today will be played by a single serial killer referred to as Mr. Shiny (Jessee J. Clarkson) and the crop? The innocent souls of Southern California. Det. Joe Kirby (Peter Zizzo) and Det. Alexis ‘Lexi’ Taylor (Terri Apple) are our talking head narrators in this docu-style series pulling us through the maze of murders perpetrated by the illusive killer, his manifesto of madness, and the strange triangular symbol found at every crime scene. Heebie-Jeebies check? More checked than the king in the hands of an amateur in a game of chess against a master. To further the mixed metaphors, Mr. Shiny is always three steps ahead. Bradly, Kate, and Lewayne are back on that summer horror binge conjuring up a review for the ages, leaving a breadcrumb trail of clues leading up to their final thoughts that will tear the mystery wide open. Listen if you dare.

Screener Squad: Hell Motel
HELL MOTEL SERIES REVIEW
It’s a dark and stormy night and you’ll never make it to your final destination on these roads. Better check into a motel for the night. It would be quite unfortunate if that was your final destination after all! What you never know about these seedy looking places just off the freeway and outside of towns is, what was the property like before? Perhaps a nice scenic view of nature’s wonders, or maybe it was the site of a satanic worship! Your number one streaming service for all things horror, Shudder, presents an eight episode series about checking into a motel with a gruesome history, Hell Motel. A group of experts on various aspects of serial killers and true crime are gathered at the motel where decades before a series of brutal murders took place where the culprits were never caught. Paige Harper (Paula Brancati) is the former slasher film diva. Andy Lecavalier (Jim Watson) is a professor with a thesis on murder that his colleagues mock. Adrianna (Genevieve DeGraves) is a beautiful young woman with a true crime podcast and a penchant for sleeping with famous killers. Kawayan (Emmanuel Kabongo) is a famous artist whose works are all inspired by serial killings. Blake (Atticus Mitchell) is a survivor of a massacre, and plenty of extras to pile on the body count. Crow (Shaun Benson) is a spiritualist who specializes in contacting murder victims. Ruby (Brynn Godenir) and Portia (Michelle Nolden) are the current owners of the motel who have invited all their guests as a promotion for the newly opened infamous spot. And then there’s Shirley (Yanna Mcintosh) and Floyd Dantree (Gray Powell) who are an couple seeking adventure who are unfortunate enough for their RV to break down outside the motel during a huge storm, but they may have secrets of their own. Bradly, Kate, and Lewayne come clean on a hot mic with their history of true crime, adoration of Shudder, and how they feel about the slasher told in an episodic format.

RICK AND MORTY – SEASON 8 REVIEW
Since Rick and Morty debuted in 2013 (yes, it’s really been that long), it has grown from an absurd sci-fi comedy into a layered, multiverse-spanning saga full of emotional depth, dark humor, and some surprisingly tight continuity. Rick has evolved from a detached god-complex genius to a man haunted by his past, and Morty has gone from a naïve sidekick into a self-aware, emotionally driven young hero in his own right. With the collapse of the Central Finite Curve, Rick Prime, and Evil Morty’s major shakeups behind us, Season 8 begins in the aftermath — Rick’s long-standing quest for vengeance is now a fresh scar, not a lingering mystery. The Smith family is more autonomous than ever, and new threats emerge from the interdimensional wreckage. T.C. and Mike are slipping through the folds of space, time, and Beth’s walk-in closet to bring their take on Season 8.

LITTLE AMELIE OR THE CHARACTER OF RAIN
Maciej Kur is back and he is once again covering the Annecy Animation Festival in France! Spidermike joins him to take a look at some of the wild new animated films from around the world coming out soon. Finally, a French movie from this very French festival of Annecy: the story of Amélie, a little girl who was born a vegetable and unable to develop. But when she turns the age of two and a half, miraculously she starts walking and forming full sentences. It’s easy for her to make this leap, as apparently she is God. The film tells the story from her point of view starting from her unfortunate birth circumstances. But making flowers grow, causing earthquakes and parting the sea takes the second stage to Amélie. With her Belgian parents and siblings moving to Japan, she befriends the house help and learns Japanese customs, as well some important life lessons on the way. And hey, if this story (based on the autobiographical book Amélie et la Métaphysique des Tubes) isn’t enough for you yet, holy cow! The visuals are like an art book come to life!

Infestation: Annecy Animation Fest 2025 – Into The Mortal World
INTO THE MORTAL WORLD MOVIE REVIEW
Maciej Kur is back and he is once again covering the Annecy Animation Festival in France! Spidermike joins him to take a look at some of the wild new animated films from around the world coming out soon. China has been in the CGI game for some time adapting folklore from their rich culture with a modern twist (see White Snake and its sequel The Green Snake) Into the Mortal world starts in the spirit realm where a young man, Jin Feng, is sent into our world to redeem his mother by capturing the 28 star spirits. Followed by his rival, Jin Feng crosses paths with Fanning, a trickster mortal girl seeking to ascend to the divine world to find her mother. After some initial bickering, the two team-up and set off on a quest to capture all the spirits and uncover some secrets from their past. Into the Mortal World is a quick-paste action adventure of true Chinese culture with some fun visuals (as well some very cool 2D portions), sadly brought down a little by some very predictable twists.

Highly Suspect Reviews: The Naked Gun
THE NAKED GUN MOVIE REVIEW
There’s a handful at best of good absurdist spoof comedies after the early reign of the Zucker/Abrahams films (Airplane, Airplane 2, Top Secret, The Naked Gun series). There’s a LOT of terrible ones. So, the relaunch of the beloved Naked Gun series without the involvement of the original team, and of course without the now departed Leslie Nielsen, had us wary. But Liam Neeson stepping into the shoes of Frank Drebin, or rather, his son, turned out to be genius casting. Frank is an old-school cop who doesn’t like to play by the rules. This gets him in trouble with his boss but his Police Squad team love him. When he is taken off the squad to work automotive collisions, he finds that his first case is actually connected to the bank robbery that got him demoted. With the help of Captain Ed Hocken Jr. (Paul Walter Hauser) and a crime novel writer whose brother was seemingly murdered (Pamela Anderson) he’ll eventually connect the dots to a tech genius Richard Cane (Danny Huston) who has Bond-villain level plans. Meanwhile, with a joke every five seconds or less, it’s either going to be hysterical or endless agony watching The Naked Gun. Fortunately for Chris, Wright, Marco, and Nathan, it was the former.

Screener Squad: Poker Face Season 2
POKER FACE SEASON 2 REVIEW
Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne are back with another season of Poker Face, their acclaimed murder-of-the-week mystery series. Charlie Cale (Lyonne) has an unusual talent, she’s a human bullshit detector who instantly knows whenever someone is lying. When her gift gets her into trouble with a Las Vegas crime family, she goes on the lam, moving from town to town, looking for work and a hiding place from the hitmen on her trail. Unfortunately for Charlie, people have a way of getting killed whenever she’s around, and given her freaky ability, she inevitably finds herself solving a new murder in a new town every week. Inspired by past shows such as The Fugitive and Columbo, Poker Face is a throwback to classic episodic television that’s built on a tried and true narrative template, anchored by a charismatic leading actor, and boasts more celebrity guest stars than a marathon of Hollywood Squares reruns. But is that enough to sustain the show’s momentum? Must the show change up its formula or should it lean harder into what made it work in the first place? To solve those mysteries, Jordan, Kim, and Marco hit the road, hit their vape pens, and hit the record button. Together, they’ll review the evidence, question the motives, and list their suspects for favorite (and least favorite) episodes of this new season.

Kimberly wants to live in a world filled with blue telephone boxes, speedsters, and ice dragons but through an ironic twist of fate, she’s stuck in this reality where these wondrous things only exist on page or film. Kim’s perpetual desire to consume sci-fi and fantasy media as a teen led her to the study of illustration/design at university to better understand its creation. Screener Squad: Monster Island
MONSTER ISLAND MOVIE REVIEW
Secluded island paradise? Yes please? Oh wait a sec, it’s in the middle of WWII and instead of a getaway you’re a marooned castaway, chained to an enemy soldier. Maybe not such a great vacation. What could be worse than that? How about a creature from the black lagoon? Monster Island (on Shudder) re-establishes that the enemy of your enemy is your friend, and common enemies make for good conflict resolution. Saito (Dean Fujioka) is a Japanese soldier on a ship full of prisoners of war and traitors to the cause. The ship wrecks and maroons him on an island, chained to a British soldier named Bronson (Callum Woodhouse). Former combatants become brothers in arms as the island unleashes its deadly secret upon them from the darkest parts of the jungle. Living to fight another day is the top priority. Bradly, Lewayne, and Kate bring out the 70’s nostalgia B-movie monster mash references to uplift the film, marvel at the physical performance in a practical suit by Alan Maxson as the mysterious creature, then to close it all off, a lecture on editing. Should there be more cuts to film then bodies in a creature feature? You decide!

SAINT CLARE MOVIE REVIEW
You know what they say about walking home alone at night, especially if you are a promising young woman. Always have a buddy. What if a buddy would just get in the way of your calling; a calling by God to take down all the sexual deviants and pathetic men that don’t take no for an answer? List or no list, Clare’s on a mission to cleanse the school campus of sex trafficking cabals. Saint Clare follows Clare Bleecker (Bella Thorne) who has a childhood trauma she’s handling through a kind of exposure therapy…exposing bad guys by killing them! With her trusty, not really their sidekick, Mailman Bob (Frank Whaley), and her legal guardian grandmother, Gigi (Rebecca De Mornay), she’ll have to decide if putting herself at constant risk is worth eliminating the risk of others being put in danger. Especially now that Detective Rich Timmons (Ryan Phillippe) is hot on her trail. Bradly, Frank, and Lewayne dissect the genres mashed up in such a short period of time, the early feature films of Mitzi Peirone, and drop bread crumbs of knowledge regarding another young woman who was called by God and thrust into sainthood through acts of violence against an oppressive patriarch.

Highly Suspect Reviews: The Fantastic Four: First Steps
THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS MOVIE REVIEW
In what seems to be fantasy wish fulfillment for fans who’ve been saying what they ACTUALLY want from a Fantastic Four movie, the MCU finally gets into the game with The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Set on a parallel retro-futuristic Earth (don’t expect any ties to the current MCU stuff), the whole world just loves the hell out of the 4. They aren’t just a superhero group but an actual family, who were given superpowers after a trip to space, and they have fought for years against sillier villains (as we see in an early montage). But when the Silver Surfer arrives to Earth to give a message that the Earth has been scheduled for demolition to make way for a hyperspace express route…no wait, that’s a different sci-fi. When they arrive to tell the humans that the mighty Galactus is coming to devour their world so to make their peace now, the FF is on the case. Never having dealt with a threat like this, the first family must find new strength in their bonds together to come up with a solution. Wright, Chris, Drew, and Frank have to do the same and the solution is: go see The Fantastic Four: The First Family. The critics at One Of Us have spoken. Listen to the review for more details.

Infestation: Annecy Animation Fest 2025 – Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake
OLIVIA AND THE INVISIBLE EARTHQUAKE MOVIE REVIEW
The sad puppet movie of the year from Spain, takes us into lives of 12 year old Oliva and her younger brother Tim. After their mom, an actress past her prime, can’t get a new role, the family is evicted from their building and has to get used to living in the ghetto. In order to keep her brother’s spirits up, Olivia tricks him into thinking what’s going on is just a reality-show like movie. But Olivia has to deal with constant panic attacks visually represented by the entire world falling apart and her falling into the abyss. Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake is a beautiful story about dealing with poverty, community coming together, finding hope in darkest of moments, and dealing with daily injustices like racism. Although, the film is incredibly well handled and wrapped with a proper level of sensitivity, it makes Maciej question how the heck are they going to market the movie to its target audience: children.

THE BEAR – SEASON 4 REVIEW
The kitchen is open, the countdown is ticking, and the heat has never been higher. After last season’s rocky launch of The Bear, the dream is still alive—but barely. Uncle Jimmy’s slapped a ticking clock on the whole operation, Sydney’s eyeing the exit, and Ritchie’s trying to plate leadership while watching his ex tie the knot. And Carmy? He’s still chasing perfection. This season isn’t just about whether the restaurant will survive—it’s about whether it deserves to. Ryan, Nathan, and T.C. are gathered at the One Of Us pickup window to discuss fine dining and finely crafted television.

Nathan Flynn (Screener Squad, Highly Suspect Reviews)
Nathan Flynn is the resident goofball of One of Us. Net, often found overly caffeinated, slightly stoned, and ready to unleash the hottest takes imaginable. As the resident Letterboxd Lunatic, his movie opinions are as bold as his love for Top Gun: Maverick — a film he considers less of a movie and more of a religion. When he’s not passionately defending his latest cinematic obsession, Nathan manages a comedy club in downtown Austin, where he’s somehow avoided being heckled… so far. Around here, he’s usually the punching bag, but hey, someone’s gotta do it.

Ryan Aleck Hill (Screener Squad, Video and Audio Editor)
Ryan is a Washington D.C. based filmmaker & video editor who loves watching and talking about movies more than just about anything. He currently works at a creative agency as a director of photography/video editor, and does freelance video editing for Anthony Fantano/TheNeedleDrop. He also has a YouTube channel (Downhill Media) where he works on a weirdo art explainer series called “Artsplained” with his partner Michelle. He was a part of the Spill.com community way back in the day,

Screener Squad: MobLand
MOBLAND SERIES REVIEW
Oi, pull up a chair, mind the blood on the floor, and keep your voice down—we’re talkin’ business. Serious business. The kind with blokes in leather coats, dodgy accents, and enough bullets flying to make Tarantino blush. Lewayne and T.C. gather in the smoky One Of Us backroom, conspirin’ in hushed tones, cappuccinos in hand, pinkies very much not out, to share their thoughts on the bloody first season of this Paramount Plus crime caper: MobLand. The series stars Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza, a fixer for the Harrigan crime family led by Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and Maeve Harrigan (Helen Mirren). It’s Guy Ritchie doing what Guy Ritchie does best—or at least trying to. We’ve got gangsters, geezers, and gory glamour, all wrapped in one big cigar-smoke-stained package.

Lewayne White (Screener Squad)
Lewayne’s earliest memories are of watching movies and reading comics, which instilled in him a sense of wonder, a vivid imagination, and unrealistic expectations. It also means he spends a lot of time watching movies, writing scripts for them, and trying to get them made. He lives in the middle of middle America after landing there as a child, and has remained there mainly because he hates packing.

Infestation: Annecy Animation Fest 2025 – A Magnificent Life
A MAGNIFICENT LIFE MOVIE REVIEW
Maciej Kur is back and he is once again covering the Annecy Animation Festival in France! Spidermike joins him to take a look at some of the wild new animated films from around the world coming out soon. From Sylvain Chomet, the brilliant mind behind The Triplets of Belleville, The Illusionist, The Old lady and the Pigeons and the only good part of Joker 2 comes A Magnificent Life. Marcel Pagnol was one of France’s most celebrated stage writers, moviemakers and novelists. When an elderly Pagnol is asked to write an essay about his life, he gets a visit from his younger self who takes him on a trip into his past. Unfortunately, the movie spends more time having the characters tell us that Pagnol is important, rather than showing us why, making him the most dull person in his own story. It’s pretty baffling coming from Chomet, once the master of show-don’t-tell in his many wonderful films. A Magnificent Life is still rich in beautiful visuals, detailed-filled backgrounds, and many great caricatures of famous French cinema icons. But we had to ask why it is accompanied by a slow moving script, the plot jumping all over the place, and some questionable statements from the director about evil Americans corrupting French children, “luring them with their coca cola and hamburgers”. (editor’s note: for the record, it was not an American who wrote this intro)

Maciej Kur (Infestation)
Maciej Kur is a Polish comic and film script writer, director and reviewer, and decidedly the biggest fan and most loyal supporter of Oneofus.net. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw with a master’s degree and the Academy of Film and Television. Co-creator of the comic book series Dollicious and Emilka Sza (with Magdalena Kania ) and Lil i Put, (with Piotr Bednarczyk ) and many others. Awarded in 2014 for a comic book in the spirit of Janusz Christa and awarded for “Złoty Puchar” in 2023. He wrote scripts for new comic books in the Polish cult series “Kayko and Kokosh”, as well as episodes of an animated series based on it (available on Netflix). He wrote for many other shows including “Kicia Kocia” (Kitty Kotty), “Pompik the Bison”, “Pucio”, “Hip-Hip and Hurra” and the upcoming animated movies “The Shrew of Destiny” and “Tytus, Romek and A’tomek”. He also directed a documentary about Polish animation legend “Witold Giersz”. Big lover of the art of animation and comic books.

Michael Riojas (Screener Squad, Highly Suspect Reviews)
The man with the ever-changing nicknames. Born in Austin, Riojas was rocketed to Del Rio, Texas, a literal Smallville. In his youth, he was bitten by a radioactive… okay, look. Mike is not very good at this whole “talking about himself” thing. But he has been so obsessed with comics, video games, and anime since childhood- that if one has to choose between listening to Joe Quesada or Mike over any obscure Spider-Man trivia, they go to him (or, at least Martin Thomas once said so). He is also a big fan of “Ghostbusters” (he even owns his own jumpsuit and two, that’s right, TWO proton packs!), collects toys and video games, and will defend “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace” if provoked. He lives in Austin with his beloved Dachshund-Maltese and trusted sidekick, Dean. He can also be heard on RageSelect. He can be found on Show more...
