A sociological study of social and emotional learning (SEL). Pivotally, SEL skills are set by the time one leaves high school. Each season focuses on a selection of ten questions that dissect various parts of SEL maturation in the time period of high school. No names of schools or people are used. Guests are from all over the country. Let’s study if our students are getting what they need, aside from academics, upon leaving the K-12 system to be able to function IRL (in real life). One episode at a time. Drop outs, graduates, home schooled, still in high school? Let’s do this. Together.

📻 I'm gonna go ahead and call this one my SEASON ONE FINALE! 🥳

🔑 Loved my convo with this guest. The bits and bobs of it are this: Treat educators with respect, jump rope, listen to those 80's tunes from the 1900's!!! And don't peak in HIGH SCHOOL!

❤️ Happy whatever you celebrate season!

1.15.2 Part 2 of Orono, MN

📚We get into the banning of books.

  • The destruction of information that can unfold because of the censorship of books is unfounded.
  • Books belong everywhere, we see others that don't reflect ourselves in books, we also see ourselves in books.
  • When books are limited or taken out of libraries we are making the world smaller - not bigger.

READ ALL THE BOOKS.

Get multiple perspectives on ideas, experience things that are outside your bubble. 📚

Also on the b part of this episode we talk about mental health. Everybody should be taking care of their brain. So I'm going to help you do that in a small way. I've introduced a mindfulness component into the end of each episode from here on out!

1.15 Orono, MN-Class of 2001 Part 1

📻 We are telling you about Orono, MN. It's giving Gilmore Girl vibes for this one.
My guest and I take on the early 2000's. The guest shares about The BURNED CD phase that some of my listeners are too young to even have heard of. The start time of this listener's school was 7:05!!! That's so damn early!!!
🔑 Key Takeaways - the most rebellious thing takes a bit of time and is by far one of the strangest things.🪨I am not even going to drop a hint for you. It's very midwest. My favorite line of the interview is: I'm not a quiet human. He had to notice!

🗣Mental health and Education need to go on a date and get things figured out! Cause our teachers need those services too! Mental health is one of the most underserved areas in education. When it does serve, it generally focus on the students, which is needed.

But our teachers need it too. It's almost like they need it to put the oxygen mask on first. To help the kids even faster.

BANNED BOOKS came up a little bit. More on that topic in part two of this episode.

1.14 WSP/MH,MN - Class of 2023

📻 The guest for the 14th episode of the first season discuss what an incredible feeling it is to have the support of a school family, especially when you lose someone in your family. She acknowledges that her high school Social Studies teacher really made her feel comforted. She discusses what it felt like to win the Athena Award. She helps break down sports for me.
🔑 Some of the takeaways from the episode are how much it mattered that her principal went to more than just the sporting events. Together we talk about the banning of books that are happening around the country and I AM HERE FOR IT!

As part of the closing we talk about mindfulness and friendships. We dissect what your friendships mean and when to evaluate if they are healthy.
