We went to walk the Balboa Spillway Trail on the second day the spillway was open. Usually, we have to wait for a big rain to see the water rushing like this, but not today. The skies are clear, deep blue, and the weather is gorgeous.

Watching the rushing water reminded me of many conversations I've had with folks looking to retire within the next three years. These are the years of high anticipation, but understandable anxiety as we work to get it right.

She asked me about my glasses. They're heavily tinted reading glasses that block out blue light. They're not cheapy throw-aways, but they're not expensive either. It sparked a conversation about the everyday things we enjoy - things that make a positive difference in our lives. I started rattling off a few things - mostly things I saw within a 6-foot circumference of my studio space. By the time I got to number 22, I stopped and made this confession, "I know I could come up with twenty-two more if we kept talking about this."

It's about stuff, our stuff. But it's about much more.
