The How She Ate An Elephant podcast is my way of holding myself accountable to my future-self. Here is the thing though... I am better at keeping promises to others than I am at keeping them to myself.

I call future-me "That Girl". She is awesome, you'll like her -- but she doesn't need your validation. That Girl is killing it at work, is debt-free, has a net-positive impact on the world around her, and she always manages to say the right thing at the right time. She personifies #wokeness, #blackgirlmagic, and #wellnessgoals. She knows herself and does not let fear of failure control her decisions.

This is where you come in: just by listening, you are helping me to achieve them. I hope that by listening you can take some of my lessons learned into your life and become your future-self.

“A critical theory is premised upon the idea that there is no way of knowing the world better than by anticipating a better world. Such anticipation provides both the intellectual instruments to unmask the institutionalized, harmful lies that sustain and legitimate social injustice and the political impulse to struggle against them.”

How She Ate An Elephant
Episode 1 – Be Accountable
Introduction
Hello! Welcome to the first episode of the podcast How She Ate an Elephant. This podcast and blog are going to serve as a “diary of accountability” for myself as I navigate through my 20’s as a professional young, black woman a few years out of college.
I find myself working to define my identify and career while simultaneously trying to maintain a healthy separation between the two. My idea for this podcast came out of my desire for personal growth and a realization that when I share my goals with others, I am more likely to hold myself to them. I’ve also noticed that when I talk about my adult growing pains with those around me that they often share my thoughts (and my confusion).
Each week, I will discuss one of my identified areas of improvement and share my action-items for how I plan to incorporate those changes into my life.
I’ve been thinking about this podcast for a while. It’s been over a year, to be honest. In that time, I have thought through my ideas for the theme and format of the first season but I would be lying if the reason for the delay wasn’t (in large part) because of Avoidance …which is why I am dedicating this first episode to it.
By releasing this episode, I am allowing myself to move forward on a path of self-improvement and to let go of the pride that was preventing me from exposing myself to failure (and criticism).
And just like that, progress overtakes perfection…
