When you behold the Lord Jesus Christ, do you recognize Him as your Messiah, and praise God for the gift of His Son?

Luke 2:22-40 Did you get what you wanted for Christmas … or even better, something you really needed? Today we will meet a man named Simeon who got exactly what he wanted and needed for Christmas – the one thing he was eagerly awaiting and anticipating. His story reminds us that if you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you got exactly what YOU needed for Christmas as well.

Matthew 2 Joseph fled to Egypt with Mary and Jesus to protect his family in obedience to God's Word, and to fulfill the prophecy of God's Word. Hosea 11:1 says, “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son,” and Deuteronomy 4:20 says, “But the LORD has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be a people of His own inheritance, as you are this day.” When you follow the Lord in obedience to His Word, He will never leave you nor forsake you.

In the Christmas carol "O Come, All Ye Faithful," we sing the refrain, "O Come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord." The shepherds responded to the angelic ministry of Christmas by being the first to come and adore the newborn Lord Jesus Christ, but they didn't stop there. They followed up their genuine worship with joyful witness to others of the Good News of Christmas they had seen and heard.

Luke 2:8-21 We have seen the angelic ministry of Christmas to Zechariah the father of John the Baptist, to the Virgin Mary, and to Joseph the earthly father of Jesus. But today we will see the Christmas ministry of the angels directed toward what would seem to be a most unlikely and unexpected audience – the lowly shepherds watching their flocks by night.

Matthew 1:18-25 Men are sometimes challenged, in modern lingo, to “man up.” Well, Joseph certainly got the memo and shows us how it's done. In his faithful response to an angelic declaration, he modeled genuine Christian manhood by the way he fulfilled the biblical exhortation, “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”

Matthew 1:18-25 The easy path and the right path almost always lead to different destinations. Joseph could have taken the easy way out, quietly divorced Mary when she was with child, and gone on with his life. But regardless of what it might cost him, Joseph did the right thing and followed the path of faithful obedience to the Lord rather than the path of least resistance.

Luke 1:5-25 Expectant parents can find it hard to choose a name for their baby – but how would you react if an angel appeared and told you what to name your child? This very thing happened to the old priest Zechariah, as the angel Gabriel announced the coming birth of his son. John the Baptist, who would be a mighty prophet preparing the way for the promised, long-awaited Messiah.

Luke 1:5-25 From Moses through the Prophets, the Lord gave His ancient covenant people the written and spoken Word of God. But after the last of the Old Testament prophets, God’s voice was silent for over 400 years. Today we will see how God suddenly and unexpectedly shattered the silence and spoke to His people again as we begin our new Advent series, "From No News to Good News."

Habakkuk 3 In his hymn “God Moves In a Mysterious Way,” William Cowper wrote, "Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, but trust Him for His grace; behind a frowning providence, He hides a smiling face." As we call to the Lord in praise and prayer throughout our lives, whether His answer is, “Yes," "No," or "Keep Praying,” we must learn to always trust, rest, and delight in Him alone.
