Amy Stein, MPT, author of Heal Pelvic Pain, founder and practitioner of Beyond Basics Physical Therapy in New York City, gives the ICA an overview on the anatomy of the pelvis, explains how physical therapy can help ease IC symptoms and answers some frequently asked questions at the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) Summer 2012 Meeting.

Barbara Shorter, EdD, RD, CDN, Associate Professor of Nutrition at Long Island University, gives the ICA an inside scoop on the shortened Shorter-Moldwin IC and Diet Questionnaire at the 2012 American Urological Association (AUA) Annual Meeting.

Dr. Doggweiler is a urologist who is trained in myofascial pain, trigger point injections, and hypnotherapy and is also board certified in holistic medicine. She is the Director of Neuro-Urology and Integrative Medicine and Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Jennifer Fariello, a nurse practitioner specializing in women's health, explains the importance of including an examination of the pelvic floor in a complete urologic work-up as part of the interstitial cystitis (IC) diagnosis process. Fariello is on staff at The Pelvic and Sexual Health Institute at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia and adjunct faculty in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania.

Overview of physical therapy for bladder pain and general pelvic pain: Physical Therapist Stephanie Prendergrast discusses the internal and external techniques used in pelvic floor therapy during the joint meeting of the International Continence Society and the International Urogynecological Association in Toronto. Prendergrast is a leader in developing techniques for pelvic floor therapy for interstitial cystitis patients with high tone pelvic floor dysfunction.

Jeffrey Proctor, MD presents an overview of interstitial cystitis (IC), including symptoms, treatments, at the Interstitial Cystitis Association's (ICA) patient forum titled "IC from A to Z", held in Atlanta, GA, August 23, 2009. Dr. Proctor is a urologist, specializing in IC and overactive bladder, with Georgia Urology, PA, in Cartersville, GA. The ICA is the only non-profit health association solely dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare and lives of people living with IC. The ICA provides advocacy, research funding, and education to ensure early diagnosis and optimal care with dignity for people affected by IC. Susan Bilheimer is an author and patient living with IC. She spoke candidly about the challenges of preserving intimacy while living with this chronic pain condition at the Interstitial Cystitis Association's (ICA) patient forum "A to Z on IC" on August 23, 2009 in Atlanta, GA. Her own struggle with sexual and pelvic pain motivated her to write "Secret Suffering: How Women's Sexual and Pelvic Pain Affects Their Relationships" with the collaboration of Robert Echenberg, MD.

Nurse Practitioner Amy Rejba Hoffmann, from the Pelvic and Sexual Health Institute (PSHI), discusses findings of the ICA Complementary and Alternative Medicine survey at the joint meeting of the International Continence Society and the International Urogynecological Association in Toronto. The ICA and PSHI are joint authors on this research. The survey proved to be the largest ever of IC patients presented in a scientific study. Results were published in the Summer 2009 issue of ICA Update.

Linda Salin, information specialist and patient advocate with the Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA), answers questions and provides advice for young interstitial cystitis (IC) patients.
