Leviticus 26 & 27 - Conclusions, Rewards and Warnings

In this final video of our study of Leviticus, we cover both Leviticus 26 and 27. Chapter 26 is a warning from the Lord of the consequences if they follow his decrees and if they do not. If they DO follow his law, God promises blessings, but IF THEY DO NOT, he promises punishment (or better known as chastisement). We look at these warnings as well as examples of where we see both play out in the Old Testament history of Israel. We also cover Leviticus 27, in which we study the dedication and redemption value of items devoted to the Lord.

Leviticus 25 Bible Study - Land Sabbath & the Year of Jubilee (Holiness Code)

In this Bible Study, we dig into Leviticus 25, looking at both the Sabbath year for the Land as well as the Year of Jubilee. The Israelites were instructed, after entering into the promised land, to give the land a sabbath rest every 7 years. Additionally, they were instructed that every 50 years was to be a year of Jubilee in which all land ownership went back to the original owners, all debts were cleared and all slaves were freed. What was the purpose for both the sabbath land rest as well as the year of Jubilee? What are our takeaways for today? All this and more we discuss in this teaching.

Outline:

01:54 Leviticus 25.1-7 - The Sabbath Year for the Land.Every 7th year, the land was to receive a Sabbath rest. So for 6 years you may Sow (plant) your fields, prune (maintain) your vineyards - your plants; and gather/reap/harvest - to gather to take to market to sell or save for future use. Then on the seventh year they were instructed not to: sow, prune or reap/harvest. Don’t verses 5 & 6 contradict each other? No, V5 is speaking of “working” the land, to either reap/harvest - to sell or store up. V6-7, makes it clear that you can gather what you can eat - but not for profit or storage. You must trust the Lord. For an entire year, you must trust in the Lord’s provision. Did Israel do this? - No, we will talk about that more later in our study.

10:01 - The year of Jubilee. Every 50th year (7x7 - 49 years), on the day of Atonement (10th day of the 7th month) at the sound the trumpet (shofar) the year of Jubilee started. Proclaim liberty, for all the inhabitants. At the year of Jubilee, everyone returns to their ancestral family property and family, and all land sales go back to the original owners (land ownership is a lease). If you purchase land, the price of the land (lease) is based on the number of crops you have until the year of jubilee.

15:30 - Leviticus 25.25-34 - Redemption of land. The land belongs to God; the Israelites are only tenants, at any time after a sale, a family member may redeem the sold land at a prorated price.

17:52 - What does “redeem” mean? As it relates to redeeming a person and redeeming land. The simple definition is to buy back at a price, to rescue to pay a ransom for something. What does the Bible say about redemption? Exo 6:6 - God declares that he will “redeem” Israel from the Egyptians. Exo 15.13 - Moses declares that God redeemed his people. Bought back. Jesus is our redeemer, bought us back, with a price (his blood). For more read Eph 1.7, Gal 3.13, and 1 Pet 1.18-19.

22:26 - Leviticus 25. 35-55 - Redemption and Treatment of Impoverished Israelites Who Sell Themselves into Servitude

28:22 - Why did God call for a land sabbath and for the year of Jubilee? To establish the land and the people are Gods - he is the owner. Lev 25.23, “the land is mine, and you reside in my land as foreigners.” To provide rest for the people and the land. - 25.20-22 God declares a massive blessing. To provide economic freedom to the people - no generational poverty or servitude. As a picture fulfilled in Christ - Typology. Jesus provides our ultimate jubilee - we are free from the debt or bondage of sin, we are adopted into our heavenly family, because we have been redeemed.

32:47 - Did they do this? Did Israel keep the land sabbath every 7 years? Did they follow the year of Jubilee every 50 years? What does scripture say? Read Chronicles 36.20–21, Jeremiah 29:10 & 25:11–12 (NIV).

41:09 - Question for discussion: what are you missing out on because you are not trusting the Lord?

43:21 - The Millennium Sabbath Rest for the world theory. https://answersingenesis.org/age-of-the-earth/

Leviticus 24 Bible Study - Lamp Oil, Show bread, Eye for Eye, & Blasphemy (Holiness Code)

Today’s Bible study covers Leviticus 24 and four distinct elements that are all tied together within the Holiness Code. Verses 1-4 we will talk about the continuous call for the priests to tend to the oil of the lampstand found within the tabernacle. Verses 5-9 discuss the weekly call to supply the show bread (bread of the presence). Both the lampstand and the show bread have application and fulfillment in Christ (which we discuss). In verses 10-23, we see a narrative about a man who blasphemes the Lord and receives swift justice. This leads to a discussion on Lex Talionis (the law of retaliation), also known as “eye for an eye,” as well as a thorough discussion on what blasphemy is and why it deserved the death penalty. Lots to talk about as we dig deep into Leviticus chapter 24.

Outline:

03:02 - Leviticus 24.1-4 - Continues Lamp Oil.We learn about the tabernacle lampstand in Exodus 25.31-40. The lampstand had a purpose in its day, it was the only source of light within the Holy Place of the tabernacle. It illuminated the work inside the tabernacle. This is also representative of Christ as our only source of divine eternal light. John 8.12, Jesus says, “‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have light of life.” John 1.4-5, “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” Heaven will be illuminated by the Glory of the Lord, Rev 21.23, “The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.” Additional Symbolism found in the lampstand: 2 Cor 5.21, Heb 7.26, Isa 53.4, Rev 1.20, Jhn 8.12, 9.5, 1.4-9, Rev 21.23.

09:09 - Leviticus 24.5-9 - Show bread also known as the “bread of the presence.” The show bread had a purpose in Moses day. It was a perpetual acknowledgement that all bread/food comes from the Lord. It was a thank-offering to the Lord. God is the provider of all. The 12 loaves represent the 12 tribes of Israel, continually offering their gratitude and dependence on God for daily provision. The show bread has fulfilment in Christ. Jesus is the bread of life, John 6.35, Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” Additionally (you can dig deep into this yourself) Jhn 3.16, 1 Pet 2.22, Heb 7.25, Rom 8.34, Eph 5.2, 1 Pet 2.9, 1 Cor 11.23-25.

13:39 - Leviticus 24.10-23 - Blasphemy and justice

17:05 - What is Lex Talionis? What is Eye for an Eye?Lex Talionis is latin. “lex” = law and talio = “like for like”The law of retaliation and the law of retributionBible verses covered on this in the study: Ex 21.23-25, Deut 19.15-21, Mat 5.38-48, Mat 5.17, Rom 13.1-4.

Lex Taolionis - eye for an eye - was never meant for personal relationships. This is where we must apply Jesus’ statement of turning the other cheek.

30:48 - Leviticus 24.10-16, 23 - BlasphemyWhat is Blasphemy? Blasphemy is any deliberate, irreverent, or contemptuous speech or action against: God (father, son, or spirit), His character, His name, His worksWhat is Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? A willful, knowing, persistent rejection of the Holy Spirit’s testimony about Jesus. Considered unforgivable because the person has hardened their heart against the only means of salvation.

The Holy Spirit resides in us as believers: John 14.16–17, Ephesians 1.13–14, 2 Corinthians 1.21–22, Ephesians 4.30.Key Bible Verses on Blasphemy covered in this talk: Exo 20.7, Exo 22.28, Lev 24.16, 1 Kings 21.1-14, Job 2.9-10, Luke 5.21, John 10.30-39, Psa 82:6, Mark 14.60-64, John 19.6-7 and Rev 13:5–6.

Leviticus 21-22 Bible Study - Regulations for Priests (Holiness Code)

In this week’s Bible study, we go through Leviticus chapters 21 & 22. We are still in the ‘Holiness Code’ this week looking at regulations for the priests themselves on how to remain holy. Included we look at how a priest might become defiled by death (the mourning process for the dead), as well as the sacred offerings. We will also talk about the restrictions and regulations on the priests and the animals that were to be offered to the Lord. Lots to talk about as we dig deep into the Old Testament.Outline: 00:09 - The Holiness Code - rules and regulations that are intended to set Israel apart. Lev 18.3-6, “you must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. You must obey my laws and be careful to folow my decrees. I am the Lord your God.”Lev 19.1-2, “The Lord said to Moses, speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God am holy.”BE SET APART.03:00 - Leviticus 22.1-3 - What are The Sacred Offerings?Leviticus 1-7 outlines the major offerings the Israelites could bring before the Lord in the Tabernacle. Included in each is provision for the priest and his family. The Burnt offering, Lev 7.8 - the priest may keep the hide. The Grain offering, Lev 2.3, 10; 6.16, 18; 7.9-10 - after a portion is burned as a “most holy” offering to the Lord, the rest is kept for the priest and his family. The Fellowship (or peace) offering, Lev 7.31-34 - a portion belongs to the Lord, then the breast and right thigh belong to the priest - the rest belongs to the offerer to eat in fellowship with their family. The Sin (or purification) offering, Lev 5.13, 6:26, 29 & 7.7 - a portion for the priest to be eaten. The Guilt (or restitution) offering, Lev 7.6-7 - same rules as the sin offering.07:38 - Leviticus 21.1-6 - Priests must avoid becoming ceremonially unclean for the dead.13:08 - Application of Lev 21.1-6 for us today. Do not let yourselves become defiled. Bible verses mentioned: 1 Pet 2.9-10; Gal 5.19-2; Mat 28.19-20 and Mat 7.5.19:04 - Physical Standards of the priests. Leviticus 21.7-9 - No wives defiled by prostitution or by divorce. Leviticus 21.10-15 - specifically has standards for the High Priest.23:08 - Leviticus 21.16-24 no one with physical handicaps can “offer the food of his God.” - v6 as well - the food offerings to the Lord.25:53 - Leviticus 22.1-8 - Clean and unclean27:52 - Leviticus 22.9 - Respect the offering. This reminds us of Nadab and Abihu of Lev 10 and their using “unauthorized fire.”29:18 - Leviticus 22.10-16 - Restricted distributions. No one outside the priest’s family may eat the sacred offerings30:49 - Leviticus 22.17-33 - Unacceptable Sacrifices. Animals used for the offerings must be unblemished - without defect - similar to the disqualifications for descendants of Aaron who can not be priests - blind, lame, deformed, or with bad testicles.Exodus 12.5 - The passover lamb must be WITHOUT defect. Jesus was the complete fulfilment of the Law - I have not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Jesus is our passover lamb. Biblical references: 1 Peter 1.18-19; John 1.29; Matthew 5.17-20; Ephesians 2.8-940:39 - Closing Questions: 1. Do you let yourself become defiled by sin? 2. Does your outward appearance earn you favor with God? 3. Can you make God love you any more? Can you make God love you less? Leviticus 20 Bible Study - Punishments in the Holiness Code

Israel was a covenant nation under God. As a people, they were to be Holy, set apart, and these are the rules He has established, including the consequences for breaking those rules.

02:32 - clarification on a point made in last week’s study (Leviticus 19.12-37) dealing with immigration in the United States and not “mistreating the foreigner residing among us” - Lev 19.33-34.03:22 - what is the two-fold sense of scripture?06:50 - Do we have to follow all of the laws that are outlined in Leviticus?

06:50 - What are the different kinds of laws in Leviticus and which should we follow today?

Moral Laws - These laws are timeless and should be followed today. These laws reflect God’s character. Each of the laws that qualify as a “moral law” is reaffirmed and restated in the New Testament. A few examples of these types of laws include: Idolatry - 1 Cor 6.9-10; 10.14; Adultery - Matt 5.27-28; and Sexual immorality - 1 Cor 6.18, 1 Thes 4.3, Eph 5.3 and Gal 5.

Ceremonial Laws - These laws symbolize separation from paganism and are not binding for today but are useful for understanding holiness (being set apart). Examples of these laws include eating clean and unclean animals and how an Israelite was to cut their hair (Lev 19.28). We are not called to follow these laws today. Here are a few New Testament perspectives on these laws: Mat 15.10-11 and Rom 14.14-18.

Civil/Judicial Laws - These are laws related to the governance of the Theocracy of Israel in its day. These laws include punishments such as stoning and burning, as well as being isolated from the community. An example of this is the punishment for adultery (as stated in Lev 20.10) of stoning. John 8.1-11 shows Jesus’ perspective on this punishment. See also 1 Peter 2.11-17 and Galatians 5

20:42 - Leviticus 20.1-5 - Child Sacrifices to Molek. Included in this discussion are Bible verses: Lev 18.21 as well as Deu 12.31, 18.10; Jer 7.31, 32.35 and 2 Kings 16.3, 21.6. Watch the full video on Leviticus 18: https://youtu.be/UZ_fjQI65o8

23:14 - Leviticus 20.6 & 27 - Spiritists and mediums. Included in this discussion are Bible verses: Lev 19.26 & .31, as well as Eph 6.12.24:30 - Leviticus 20.7-8 & 22-24 - Consecrate yourselves and be holy. God calls the Israelites to be set apart, as he does for us today as well. Bible verses discussed: Exo 3.8 and Gen 15.16.

28:28 - Leviticus 20.9 - Cursing father or Mother. We covered this when we spoke on Lev 19.3. Also mentioned are Bible verses: Ex 20.12, Eph 6.2-3 and Pro 1.8; 6.20; 23.22. Watch the Lev 19 video: https://youtu.be/ATXH9Y7fp48

29:15 - Leviticus 20.10-21 - Punishments for Sexual Immorality. Watch the video on Leviticus 18, as we cover these topics in-depth: https://youtu.be/UZ_fjQI65o8

34:18 - Leviticus 20.25-26 - Clean and unclean animals. Included Bible verses in this discussion Lev 11, Acts 11.4-18 and Mark 7.14-19. Watch the full Leviticus 11 video: https://youtu.be/fjzhjBUuLpo

37:32 - Closing questions:Are you able to love your neighbor despite their political perspectives? How can you show Christ’s love to someone you don’t agree with or who is an enemy?

Leviticus 19:1-11 Bible Study - Various Laws Pt 1 - (Holiness Code)

This is part one of two in looking at Leviticus 19. This chapter has various laws outlined within the “holiness code,” the set of rules designed to keep Israel safe and set apart in the land they are going to enter. Included in this talk are rules on respecting parents, observing the sabbath, abstaining from the worship of idols, and ordinances on not stealing or lying.Outline: 00:04 - Introduction to Leviticus 19

02:28 - Reading of Leviticus 19.1-20

05:20 - Leviticus 19.1-2 - Be holy - be set apartLev 17-26 is the “holiness code”; these are rules to govern Israel. Bible verses covered: Exo 19.6, 1 Pet 1.14-16, and Rom 12.1-2.

12:56 - Leviticus 19.3 - Respect your Mother & FatherThere is a reason God made this one of the commandments; it's important to honor your parents and show them respect. This commandment also includes a promise “so that it will go well with you and that you will ENJOY life.” Treat your parents as you would like to be treated by your children. Honor them, respect them Bible verses included: Ex 20.12, Eph 6.2-3, Pro 1.8, Pro 6.20 and Pro 23.22 16:54 - Leviticus 19.3 - Observe my SabbathsThe Israelite was commanded to rest on Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath (Sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday). This was a to be a day to rest, to spend with your family before the Lord. Not to work. Not wanting to break the 4th commandment, jews took this to the extreme (and still do to this day), Ex: Sabbath elevators in Jerusalem. The jews made rules on top of rules to make sure that they did not break the 4th commandment. To the extent that it was more about not breaking ANY rules about the sabbath then it was about enjoying and honoring God within the sabbath.Bible verses included: Exo 20.8-11, Exo 16:21-26, Mrk 2.23-27 and Col 2.16-17. Decide as a family how you will spend the sabbath.26:00 - Leviticus 19.4 - Do not turn to IdolsWhat is an idol - something that you worship other than the Lord. Examples of idols: Gen 31 - Laban and his “household gods” - small figurines. Ex 32 - the Golden Calf. King Hezekiah destroyed the bronze serpent in 2 Kings 18.4 and called it “Nehushtan” - a thing made of bronze.. Num 21,4-9 is the original story with John 3.14 being where Jesus says it is about him. Also read Isaiah 44. 33:45 - Leviticus 19.5-8 - Fellowship Offerings. For more see Lev 7.11-1835:05 - Leviticus 19.9-10 - Care for the poor in your harvest. This deals with not harvesting 100% of your crops but leaving some for the poor. Other Bible verses on this: Deut 24.19-21 and Ruth 2.2-3.37:53 - Leviticus 19.11a, 13, 35 - Do not steal (do not rob, defraud, hold back wages, or use dishonest scales). Bible verses covered: Lev 19.11a, 13, 35; Deut 25.15-16; Pro 11; 16; 20; 23 and Exo 20.15.40:51 - Leviticus 19.11b, & 16a - Do not Lie or deceive (or slander). Teaching Notes:

Read all of Romans 6

Rom 6.1 - Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? Read Rom 5.20-21. God’s grace (and free gift through Jesus Christ) covers a multitude of sins. So if we sin MORE, then we actually make the value of Jesus’ sacrifice greater… so lets just go crazy. Nope - you're missing the entire point and here it is:

Rom 6.2, “we are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?” - Paul is touching on the main point of the Chapter here, he will explain in more detail.

Rom 6.3-4 - Baptism.Baptism is a picture, right? What does it picture? Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection. We go down into the water, which symbolizes Jesus’ death and burial. We come up out of the water, which symbolizes Jesus’ resurrection.

Rom 6.5-7 - death to the old self.Jesus was killed and buried; in doing that, he became our spotless “passover lamb,” (“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Cor 5.21). BUT THEN, God raised him from the dead, to be the “first fruits.” The resurrection of Christ is critical! Just as he was raised from the dead, so too will we be raised to eternity in heaven with the Lord. Rom 6.6 - old self was crucified with him? YOU ARE A NEW CREATION. BORN AGAIN!“The body ruled by sin is done away with” - we are no longer slaves to sin.Person testimony - My obsession with pornography started in 7th grade.

Slave to sin verses:John 8.34, 2 Peter 2:19, Titus 3.3, Proverbs 5.22 and Ephesians 2.1-2. Satin wants you to stay locked in your chains.

Rom 6.7 - Anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Think about that.

Rom 6.8-11 - Christ died and was raised from the dead. He can not die again. So too, our old self has died, it's buried.

Rom 6.12-14 - DO NOT LET SIN REIGN, DO NOT OFFER ANY PART OF YOURSELF TO SIN AS AN INSTRUMENT OF WICKEDNESS. As Christians, when we accept Christ and are baptized into a new life with him, our old self is reckoned dead. We are no longer going to hell; we have a new destination at our death, and sin no longer has its chains wrapped around us. But SO many of us voluntarily put those chains back on. Kill the old self, put him to death, and embrace the born-again you.

Rom 7.14-25. You do not have to be perfect. I am not calling you to that, that's impossible. What I am calling you to do is to publicly declare the old self dead, and do the best you can to not allow that old sinful way of life to control your actions today. So, how did I break the chains that pornography had on me?1. I made a covenant with my wife, to tell her everything and be honest. 2. Rather than focusing on what I ought NOT to do, I focused on learning who God is.

Discussion Questions:

1. What does someone look like who is a slave to sin? How can you tell?

2. When in your life would you say you were a “slave to sin?”

3. How has a person who has physically died been set free from sin?

4. How can you, as a born-again believer, be an instrument of wickedness? What does that look like?

5. What does it look like to offer yourselves to the Lord as an instrument of righteousness?

6. What is a habitual sin that Christ crucified on the cross but you are allowing to still have power in your life?

7. Who has a testimony to share, of a victory over sin, that the Holy Spirit has helped you overcome?

Teaching Notes:

Colossians 1.24-29

Christ in you, the hope of glory! Not just a future date, although we look to that time of seeing Him face to face. But Eternal Life is ours now: The God of Heaven lives in our hearts.

1 Corinthians 6.17

But he who is joined to the Lord is 1 spirit with Him. So deep is our UNION with Christ that Paul explains, in 1 Cor 6, that to join our bodies with a harlot is to join Christ to one. The physical union expressed in marriage is a picture of the spiritual union we have with Jesus. We are the Bride of Christ.

Romans 8.28-29

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. God’s plan, working His will, IN US, is to conform (also can translate: transform)us to be like Him. This is not to copy Him, but to express the life of Jesus within us.

Psalm 103.7

He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.Moses knew why God did what He did, while most of the people only saw His works, and were not changed by them. Moses wanted more, to know God for who He is; “show men Your Glory”. And God revealed His nature to Moses, in a personal way.

1 Peter 1.10-12

Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to [e]us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into. (2 Corinthians 5.17 New creatures in Christ!)The prophets, including Moses, did not understand fully, or even experientially, what we have been given in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Even angels, who are in the presence of God, ‘long to look into’ this relationship with God. And as God is love, He is fully love, but He is also Mercy, Justice, Righteousness, etc. And He is not broken into pieces, but is fully each of these attributes to each of us. Our INNER LIFE verses our OUTER LIFE needs exploration

Matthew 11.28-30

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”So, because we are one with Christ, as He dwells within us, we do not have a transactional relationship with Him. Rather, we belong to Him, with Him, and for Him. And He is ours, He is our peace, and He, not a day, is our true rest. Are you able to stop in heart and mind-simply be with Him, appreciating what you truly have? To rest in Him is to not need anything.

John 19.30

So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. The work of salvation is finished by Jesus, and this also applies to the provision of rest to our souls. We won’t experience this reality in a 2 day retreat, but we can ask God to reveal His true rest and begin to bring us to the full realization that we are complete in Him, and He is living in us.

Teaching Notes:

Who are you?

Your false identity promises life but leads to death, your true identity promises death but leads to life.God wants us to know who he is and who we are (who he made us to be).Jesus walking people from their false identity into their true identity.

Luke 15.11-32

Jesus speaking to tax collectors and “sinners” – Pharisees muttering: reinforcing the false identity – you are not your vocation, you are not the sum of your decisionsSon is driven by belief that there is something better – would rather have his father dead. New identity – disrespect of the one who loves me. Leave for distant land – separation from the fatherLoses everything, tries to fix the situation in his false identity.Comes to senses, but still operating in his false identityWhile he was a long way off, his father saw him – Jesus is with you right now, ready for you to come back to who he made you to be at any moment. Robe: son’s restored dignity, honor, and family statusRing: restored authority, identity, and sonship (entrusted to act on his father’s behalf)

Luke 19.1-9

Zacchaeus means “pure” oneTax collector: Greedy or corruptSmall in statureZacchaeus responds in his true identityA true son of Abraham: just “a fine American”?

Genesis 15 – the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision. Now look to the heavens and count the stars, if you are able… so shall your offspring be.John1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Discussion Questions:

The following are questions to contemplate while in conversation with Jesus. Listen to what Jesus reveals to you and note the answers

1. What do you believe about yourself or God that hurts you?

2. Negative emotions (e.g., fear, doubt, shame) can be an indication of false belief about yourself and/or God. What is the most common negative emotion you experience?

3. If you can, recall when you first remember feeling this way. What were the circumstances?

4. Confess your beliefs about yourself and/or God to Jesus. What does he say about them? Give you false beliefs to Jesus. What does He do with them?

5. Ask Jesus what He calls you (your true identity).

6. Based on what He reveals, what does he want you to know?

7. Based on what He reveals, what does he want you to do?

Leviticus 18 Bible Study - Sexual Immorality (Holiness Code)

Leviticus 18 continues the “holiness code,” talking about sexual immorality. The holiness code is a series of chapters in Leviticus (chapters 17-26) that call the Israelites to be holy and set apart for the Lord. In verse 3, God calls the Israelites not to be like the Egyptians (where they had been) and not to be like the people in the land they are going to (the Canaanites). The Israelites are not to engage in unlawful sexual relations, and included in that discussion, Dave talks about what the Bible has to say about Polygamy, child sacrifice, abortion, and homosexuality. The application for the Israelites in Moses' day was that they were to be set apart for the Lord; our application today is the same. We can not be perfect, but based on being perfectly forgiven in Christ, we ought to aim for living Holy lives, not allowing anything that will derail or lead us astray in our lives.Outline:00:24 - heavy subjects to be covered today. You must read the Bible for yourself and come to your own conclusions. If you are upset by what is shared, ask the question, am I upset at this teaching or am I upset by what the Bible says? When we find ourselves in contradiction to the Bible, we can either change and follow God’s direction or we can rebel and go our own way.02:13 - using AI to study the Bible. Artificial intelligence is a great resource for doing research to see what the Bible says. 04:43 - reading all of Leviticus 1809:26 - Leviticus 18.1-5 & 24-30 - Sets up the rest of the Holiness Code. Matthew 8:23-27 Bible Study - Facing (and chasing) storms - Malawi missions update

In this teaching, Dave Bigler quest teaches at Adirondack Christian Fellowship. He goes through Matthew 8.23-27 talking about Jesus calming the storm on the Sea of Galilee. Dave talks about the historical context of the Sea of Galilee and how quickly storms can rage on that water. We see Jesus, not worried at all, quickly calm the story and ask the disciples why they doubted. We see this applicable in our lives today as we face the storms that rage in our own lives, and how we grow from going through them. Dave ties this into short-term missions and how we grow from intentionally putting ourselves in situations that will strengthen our faith in the Lord. Dave concludes with a recap of his recent team trip to Malawi, Africa.

Leviticus 17 Bible Study - The Life is in the Blood

In this Bible Study, we unpack Leviticus chapter 17 in which we do a deep dive into Blood, from both a physical side as well as the spiritual side (as the instrument of atonement for our sins). In Leviticus 17.11 we get the entire point of the Gospel message, “the life is in the blood… I have given it to you to make atonement…”Outline:00:19 - Steel Wool Men’s retreat. Leviticus 16 Bible Study - The Day of Atonement - Yom Kippur (יום כיפור)

In this Bible Study we walk through all of Leviticus 16 in which we study the Day of Atonement, also known as Yom Kippur (יום כיפור). The Day of Atonement was (and still is) the most holy day for all of Israel, although it was celebrated differently in Moses’ day from how it is today. We will talk about the foundation of this Holy Day, as well as what a scapegoat is (and who/what is Azazel).

OUTLINE:

00:13 - Personal update. Why am I wearing a bowtie?

02:37 - What is my job as a Bible teacher?

03:25 - Reading of Leviticus 16

10:30 - Leviticus 16.1 - Nadab & Abihu - Aaron’s sons who died in Chapter 10.

13:11 - Overview of the tabernacle set up, including the outer courtyard, the bronze altar, the wash basin, the candlestick, the table of show bread, the altar of incense, the curtain (or veil), the holy place, the holy of holies (or most holy place), and finally the ark of the covenant.

15:37 - What is the Day of Atonement?

17:05 - What was the sin of Nadab & Abihu?Watch the full study of Leviticus chapter 10 on Nadab & Abihu.https://youtu.be/ds7kyDHUq0w

20:00 - Leviticus 16.3-5 - the animals mentioned for the sacrifice for the day of atonement.

21:38 - Leviticus 16.6-10 “Scapegoat.” What is the Scapegoat? Who is Azazel? Is Azazel a demon? Why is there a discrepancy between translations of the Bible? The Hebrew word: עֲזָאזֵל ʿăzā'zēl (Azazel), the Greek translation (from the Septuagint) is ἀποπομπαῖος (apopompaios), meaning "the one sent away" or "scapegoat.”

32:07 - Jesus is our scapegoat! See verses Isa 53.5-6 and Heb 10.10.

34:13 - Yom Kippur (יום כיפור). A look at the most holy day for Israel, during Moses' day, during the first and second temple period as well as today (under the rabbinic law). Yom Kippur is still celebrated today; in 2025, it is on October 1 sundown - after nightfall on October 2. For full details of Yom Kippur traditions practiced by Jews today, visit:https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/177886/jewish/What-Is-Yom-Kippur.htm

38:46 - Conclusions; a reading of Hebrews 10.1-25. Jesus is the culmination and fulfillment of the Levitical law.

Matthew 8:1-4 Bible Study - We are the Leper (Guest Teaching)

In Matthew 8:1-4 we see a man who had leprosy approach Jesus and ask to be cleansed. Jesus heals the man and instructs him not only not to tell anyone what he did but also to go to the priests and give the offerings commanded by Moses. In this Bible study we will unpack the context of what this meant for the leper in that day. We will look at Leprosy (Hansen's disease) as it was in the days of Moses, the days of Jesus and for us today. Finally we will look at this passage for modern application for us today, looking at leprosy as a picture of sin, and how we can see our own story today in Jesus healing the leper. This video was filmed at Adirondack Christian Fellowship.
