Christmas Reflections - 2025-12-28 - Pastor Jarrod - Elgin Campus
This reflection invites us into a profound exploration of fear and faith during the Advent season, anchored in the Gospel of John's powerful declaration that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. The central message echoes throughout: 'Be not afraid.' As we journey through life's unexpected changes—whether welcoming new family members, facing uncertain futures, or navigating a world that feels increasingly divided—we're reminded that God's light has entered our darkness and cannot be overcome. The scripture from John 1 reveals Jesus as the true light that gives light to everyone, and this truth becomes our anchor when fear threatens to paralyze us. We're challenged to examine what we're truly afraid of: Are we afraid of getting things wrong? Of not growing in faith? Of what others might think? Yet the angel's message persists through every fear: God is with us. This isn't just theological comfort—it's a call to action. When we truly grasp that no one is beyond God's grace, we become reflections of that divine light, called to shine in valleys and mountaintops alike. The message urges us to reconsider whether we're following the real Jesus or a version shaped by cultural expectations, preparing us to embrace the fullness of Christ's transformative presence in our everyday lives.

Sacred Disruptions - 2025-12-21 - Pastor Jarrod - Elgin Campus
This powerful message invites us into the heart of the Christmas story through the eyes of ordinary shepherds who experienced an extraordinary sacred disruption. Drawing from Luke 2:8-20, we explore the recurring angelic message throughout Advent: 'Do not be afraid.' These weren't just words for ancient shepherds keeping watch in dark fields—they're God's personal invitation to us today. The message challenges us with a piercing question: What would we do if we weren't afraid? Fear has an insidious way of stopping us in our tracks, keeping us from stepping into God's calling. Whether it's fear of change, fear of the unknown, or fear of inadequacy, these barriers prevent us from experiencing the fullness of God's plan. The shepherds could have dismissed the angels, paralyzed by fear of disruption to their ordinary lives. Instead, they hurried to Bethlehem and became the first evangelists of the gospel. We're reminded that sacred disruptions come in many forms—in ordinary moments at the grocery store, through difficult circumstances that grow our faith, or through bold callings into completely unknown territory. The beautiful truth is that God doesn't cause our struggles, but works all things for good. When we lay aside fear and step forward in faith, we discover that God provides everything we need. This Advent season, we're called to listen for the voice of truth over the voice of fear, remembering that Emmanuel means God is with us—not somewhere down the road, but right here, right now.

The Hopes and Fears - 2025-12-15 - Pastor Jason - Elgin Campus
This Advent reflection takes us deep into Matthew 1:18-25, where we encounter Joseph at a crossroads of fear and faith. We often focus on Mary's courage in the Christmas story, but Joseph's quiet struggle reveals something profound about how God meets us in our most uncertain moments. Here is a man facing social disgrace, personal heartbreak, and a future turned upside down, yet the scripture calls him 'righteous' not because he enforced the law, but because he chose mercy. When the angel appears saying 'do not be afraid,' we discover that God doesn't shame our fears but addresses them directly. The message explores how biblical righteousness looks less like being right and more like being kind, less about judgment and more about compassion. Joseph teaches us that faith doesn't mean having all the answers or a detailed roadmap; it means taking the next faithful step even when we can't see the destination. The names given to the child, Jesus meaning 'the Lord saves' and Emmanuel meaning 'God with us,' remind us that God's greatest gift isn't clarity but presence. In our own moments of unexpected phone calls, disrupted plans, and fearful decisions, we're invited to remember that hope isn't the absence of fear but God's presence in the midst of it.

Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent - 2025-11-30 - Pastor Jarrod - Elgin Campus
This Advent journey invites us into the profound silence experienced by Zechariah, a faithful priest who received an impossible promise in the holiest place. When an angel appeared announcing that his elderly wife Elizabeth would bear a son, Zechariah's doubt led to nine months of enforced silence. But what if this wasn't punishment at all? What if God was offering him a sacred gift? In our noise-saturated world, we rarely pause long enough to truly hear God's whispers. Zechariah's silence became his preparation, a time to refocus, reflect, and notice God's presence in ways he never could when speaking. The angel's words echo through the centuries to us: 'Do not be afraid.' We're challenged to consider what we would do if we weren't afraid, what prayers we've given up on, and where we need to embrace stillness. Hope grows when we allow God to speak into our quiet places. This season isn't just a countdown to Christmas but an invitation to listen, to notice the angels God still sends through friends, strangers, and unexpected moments. In the stillness, transformation happens. In the waiting, hope is born.

Foundations of Glory - Jarrod - Bartlett Campus
The book of Haggai speaks powerfully to us about rebuilding what matters most—not just physical structures, but the spiritual foundations of our lives and communities. When we encounter the remnant of God's people standing before a destroyed temple, we see ourselves reflected in their struggle. Many of us remember when our churches were full, when programs thrived, when the glory of God seemed more tangible. Yet Haggai's message isn't one of nostalgia—it's a prophetic call to action. God challenges us to examine what we've been building: Are we focused on our own comfort, our material needs, our personal security? Or are we investing in what truly lasts—community, mission, and God's kingdom? The profound truth here is that God promises something greater than what came before. This isn't about recreating the past; it's about stepping into an abundant future where God's glory fills our efforts. The key lies in aligning ourselves with God's mission rather than our own plans. When we work within God's vision, provision flows. When we drift into self-sufficiency and scarcity thinking, we struggle. This passage invites us to shift from survival mode to mission mode, from asking 'Do we have enough?' to declaring 'God will provide.' The challenge is clear: stop waiting for perfect conditions, stop letting fear hold us back, and start building what God has called us to build—a welcoming, transformative community rooted in Christ.

The Day Death Lost - Elgin Campus
What if our understanding of heaven has been too small all along? This powerful exploration of 1 Corinthians 15 challenges us to rethink everything we thought we knew about resurrection and eternal life. Rather than viewing heaven as an escape from our bodies and this broken world, Scripture reveals something far more beautiful: God's plan to recreate both. The resurrection of Jesus wasn't just about saving us from sin—it was a preview of what awaits all of creation. When Revelation speaks of a new heaven and new earth coming together, it's describing heaven descending to meet a restored creation, not us floating away from it. This changes everything about how we live today. If God values this world enough to recreate it, we must be faithful stewards of it now. If our bodies will be resurrected like Christ's was—recognizable yet gloriously transformed—then our physical existence matters eternally. The hope we carry isn't just personal; it's cosmic. Death has been swallowed up in victory, and we're called to live fully in that truth, sharing this incredible hope with everyone around us. Our labor in the Lord is never in vain because we're working toward a future that's more real and lasting than anything we see today.

The God Who Weeps
This profound exploration of grief and divine compassion takes us into the heart of one of Scripture's most moving moments: Jesus weeping at the tomb of Lazarus. We journey through John 11:17-36, where we discover something remarkable—our God doesn't stand at a distance during our darkest hours, but enters fully into our pain. The message walks us through the psychological stages of grief: numbness, yearning and searching, disorganization, and finally reorganization. But here's the transformative truth: we never grieve alone. When Jesus saw Mary and Martha mourning, He didn't offer quick platitudes or demand they 'get over it.' Instead, He wept. The Creator of the universe cried alongside them. This reveals the very heart of God—a God who doesn't rush us through our pain but walks every step of the grief journey with us. Whether we're mourning the loss of a loved one, a job, a relationship, or a dream, we're reminded that tears aren't weakness and grief isn't something to simply overcome. It's a sacred process of reconciliation, and God meets us there with hope, comfort, and the promise of resurrection life. We don't grieve as those without hope, because we serve a God who conquered death itself.

Becoming More
In our journey of faith, we're exploring the transformative power of God's grace. This message delves into sanctifying grace, the ongoing process of spiritual growth after we've accepted Christ. Drawing from Philippians 2:1-13, we're reminded of Christ's humility and how we're called to imitate it. Sanctifying grace is like living in God's house - it's where we grow, learn, and spend our lives with God. It's not just about feeling God's love, but actively responding to it through both faith and works. We're challenged to stay connected to Jesus, the true vine, through prayer, worship, and studying Scripture. This connection allows us to bear fruit and participate in God's kingdom work, including acts of mercy and justice. As we open our hearts to receive this grace, we're filled up to pour out love to others, creating a beautiful cycle of receiving and giving. This message encourages us to live fully in God's grace, growing towards Christian perfection each day.

Roadblocks on the Journey
In this powerful message, we're reminded that grace is at the heart of our faith journey, but we must also confront the reality of sin in our lives. The central theme revolves around Romans 3:23, 'for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.' We explore the concept of 'roadblocks to grace' – those things that hinder our relationship with God, others, and ourselves. These roadblocks can take many forms, from idolatry and pride to gossip and addiction. Yet, the good news is that through Christ, we can overcome all obstacles. The message draws a beautiful parallel to the parables of the lost sheep, lost coin, and prodigal son, reminding us that God's love and grace are always seeking us out, no matter how far we've strayed. This teaching challenges us to examine our own lives, identify our personal roadblocks, and lean into the transformative power of God's grace. It's a call to daily take up our cross and follow Jesus, living in the shadow of His love and forgiveness.

Nothing Between Us
In this powerful exploration of justifying grace, we delve into the heart of God's transformative love. The parable of the Prodigal Son serves as our guide, illustrating how God's grace pursues us even when we've strayed far from home. This grace doesn't just forgive; it restores us to our rightful place as beloved children. We're reminded that salvation isn't a one-time event, but a continuous journey of accepting God's love and choosing to follow Christ. The message challenges us to consider: Have we truly made our faith our own? Are we living as if we've never sinned, embracing the new life God offers? This teaching invites us to experience the liberating power of justifying grace, encouraging us to say 'yes' to God's relentless love and allow it to reshape our identity and purpose.
