Kingdom Keys for Business, Life & Work
From Prayer to Practical Solutions

In this podcast episode, we explore how people can receive practical guidance from God in their everyday work. Bill Job shares that he first noticed unexpected ideas coming to him and later found biblical examples, such as God giving detailed instructions for the tabernacle. He describes experiences in manufacturing, where creative solutions “just appeared” and significantly improved efficiency.

Bill believes these ideas are not self-generated but received. Other inventors he knows have also recognized that their innovations came through inspiration rather than personal genius. Bill explains that these insights often come when a person is relaxed, worshiping, or just waking up, when the mind is open. The key is a childlike, trusting relationship with God—working together rather than striving or feeling alone.

John Cobb; From Success to Sonship

In this podcast, Gea and Bill speak with John Cobb, who is the founder of an engineering software company serving U.S. auto dealerships. Passionate about cars and technology, he describes himself as a “visionary Christian technology entrepreneur.”

John shares how worldly success had left him empty. He transitioned from a 'religious' Christian to a follower of Christ and how that affects his daily working life. He emphasizes “functionally abiding” in the Lord—inviting God into daily operations, praying with his team, and valuing people over profit. This shift, both the hosts and John agree, is a lifelong process of transformation through Christ.

Briefly, John reflects on his participation in the training Kingdom Mindsets for Business, as he joined one of the cohorts Gea and Bill are leading. You can find more info about the training on this page >>

Spiritual Battle in Business: Release Justice and Love Your Enemies

In this episode, Bill shares his experience of facing life-threatening danger while starting a business in China. He hired a man he trusted from a Bible study, only to discover this person had a dangerous past and threatened his family.

This experience reshaped his understanding of discipleship: it’s not just teaching Scripture but modeling obedience, including loving enemies. Bill illustrates this through the “tag team” image, where God fights alongside us. By blessing those who harm us, we release them into God’s hands, gaining freedom and spiritual growth.

Stephanie and Armando Rojas shifted from traditional missions to business-driven impact in Africa. In the last episode, they shared how they initially aimed for missional NGO work in Somalia, but felt guided to a more strategic approach, exploring business opportunities to create sustainable change.

They chose Ethiopia for its entrepreneurial ecosystem, spent two years praying and preparing. Meanwhile, they started businesses in Costa Rica to fund their mission. Overcoming the $85,000 startup requirements in Ethiopia, as well as legal hurdles and bureaucracy, they relied on faith, persistence, and flexibility.

Stephanie became the first foreign female architect registered locally in Ethiopia. Their story shows how God can use personal skills in unexpected ways to serve His kingdom.

Embracing Place in Business as Mission

This episode examines the importance of place in Business as Mission, as people may be led to specific locations by God for His purposes.

Gea and Bill share personal stories of discovering God's calling through their experiences in different places, and discuss practical ways to embrace and love a city or place, understanding its history, culture, and needs.

They emphasize the concept of "thin places" where God's presence seems near. Emmie van Halder's Journey of Faith and Entrepreneurship

In this podcast, Bill and Gea talk with serial entrepreneur Emmie van Halder.  Emmie shares her life's journey of blending business and faith. Over the past ten years, faith and work have become inseparable for her, but this integration wasn't always the case.

In her youth, she joined Youth With A Mission (YWAM), but upon returning to her home country, the Netherlands, she didn't feel at home in a church. Meanwhile, her focus shifted to entrepreneurship, and she founded multiple startups. Her business life thrived, and she lost her connection to Christianity. A pivotal moment came when an investment banker, who was also a pastor, invited her to church, leading to a life-changing return to faith in 2013.

She found a church fellowship and connected with other Kingdom-minded businesspeople. She became a board member of Business as Mission (BAM) Netherlands, and she is investing in (BAM) start-ups, especially those with a focus on Africa. For Emmie, faith and work are now inseparable, and she encourages others to trust God’s guidance in all aspects of life.

When Plans Fail: Finding Strength and Purpose in Hard Times

In this episode, Bill and Gea discuss thriving in the face of adversity. Bill shares how he saw God's faithfullness while running a company in China, but not all situations ended successfully. Like the closure of a factory due to an unexpected economic downturn and the emotional difficulty it caused among employees.

Bill emphasizes that thriving amid adversity is about shifting focus from personal success to seeing God's role as the true hero. He encourages listeners to start small, ask God for help in everyday situations, and build a history of faith that strengthens over time. With enough experience, challenges become opportunities to witness God's faithfulness.

SEVI: Revolutionizing Small Shop Financing in Africa

In this episode Gea and Bill talk with Walter aan de Wiel, a Dutch entrepreneur who co-founded SEVI, a business providing stock financing to small shops in Kenya and other developing countries. These small shops, often no larger than a square meter, struggle with the lack of credit and must pay upfront for their stock. Sevi allows them to purchase on credit, benefiting from bulk discounts and deliveries, which improves their efficiency and profitability.

Walter blends technology with personal relationships, leveraging local salespeople to build trust with shop owners before introducing them to Sevi's platform. The business model has been successful in reducing default rates and offering ethical, low-interest loans, as opposed to informal and unjust lending systems.

Walter's entrepreneurial journey was influenced by a prophecy about working in Africa, leading him to study and work in countries like Kenya and Kosovo. Despite setbacks like COVID-19, Sevi grew rapidly after 2021. Walter emphasizes the importance of faith, perseverance, and an open mind to new opportunities, even in challenging times.

How the Worlds of Business and Ministry Can Work Together

In this episode, Matt Wagner continues to share his experiences of integrating ministry and business. Building on his previous story, he elaborates on his journey as a business and church leader.

Matt refers to the five-fold ministry model, which links the church’s structure to the human body, and how the five gifts from Ephesians 4—apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, and evangelists—are essential for a healthy church. This framework also applies to business, where Matt and Bill see a similar need for the various gifts to function within companies.

Matt shares how these principles can lead to a more significant impact when business leaders and pastors collaborate, moving away from competition and towards mutual support for God's kingdom. Both Bill and Matt advocate for a servant-leader mindset, where both pastors and business leaders work together in humility, focusing on shared goals and mutual respect, instead of ego. Matt and Gea refer to the global ministry SEAPC as an example where they have seen this modeled. The conversation ends with an optimistic view on the growing shift towards integrating faith into daily work life, with increasing momentum worldwide.

Bridging the Gap: Uniting Church and Business for God's Kingdom

Matt Wagner believes that the future of ministry involves blending the realms of church and business to fulfill God’s calling in new and transformative ways. He shares his journey of learning to embrace both his talents in church leadership and business entrepreneurship.

Matt felt a calling to plant churches early in life, but church planting proved financially difficult, leading him to venture into business. He started a roofing company, which grew rapidly. Eventually, he expanded into custom home building.

It was a busy life, and he felt the disconnect between the church and the business world. Yet he felt God wouldn’t let him stop the business and grew in his conviction that God doesn’t want a divide between church and business. Instead that they should join hands in building God’s Kingdom. In the next episode with Matt, he will address some of the things needed for this to happen.

Intellectual Humility, Childlike Trusts and the Kingdom Journey

This episode with Bill Job encourages listeners to embrace a childlike attitude, characterized by trust, openness to learning, and a playful approach to challenges, which can lead to deeper spiritual growth and connection with God.

Bill shares his journey of recognizing the limitations of his own knowledge and the need for intellectual humility. He describes a moment when God revealed to him the idea of having categories for understanding scripture, like wooden mailboxes. Without these categories, certain teachings and ideas would not make sense. Bill reflects on how this realization led to a shift in his thinking, encouraging him to be open to new perspectives and to embrace the learning process.

The discussion also touches on the importance of childlike faith and trust in God, as well as the courage to try new things without overthinking them. Bill uses the metaphor of a child learning through experience rather than academic study, emphasizing that spiritual growth often comes through action and trust. The conversation highlights the value of being willing to take risks, even if they seem silly or unconventional, as part of growing in faith and experiencing the fullness of life that God offers.
