Jesus Is Alive. So Why Are We Still?

Christmas opens the door, but it was never meant to be the end of the story.

In this message, we confront a hard truth many churches and believers face: stillness often feels like faithfulness. The disciples believed. They gathered. They were sincere. And they were stuck behind locked doors.

Jesus meets them there, not to shame them, but to send them.

Drawing from John 20, John 5, Esther, and Paul’s vision of ambassadorship, this sermon explores what it means to stop treating faith as an endpoint and start living it as movement. God is already at work. The question is whether we are paying attention and willing to let go.

This message challenges comfortable Christianity, calls the church back into the flow of God’s mission, and invites each of us to move again.

If you’ve ever felt faithful but stagnant, this message is for you.

Incarnational Faith: Why Following Jesus Costs Us Our Comfort

What does it actually mean to follow Jesus in a crowded, distracted, and comfort-driven world?

This sermon explores the heart of incarnational faith, not as a seasonal idea, but as a way of life shaped by presence, humility, and movement toward others. Drawing from the birth of Christ, the shepherds, and the posture of Jesus Himself, we are challenged to move beyond simply having room and instead learn what it means to make room.

Jesus did not save from a distance.
He came close.
He welcomed the overlooked.
He chose the lower place.

This message calls disciples of Jesus Christ to practice proximity, move toward the margins, and embody the posture of the King in everyday life.

Before we ever made room for Him, He made room for us.

The Excellent Life Paul Describes (And How to Actually Live It)

Life rarely stays neat. Plans wobble. Circumstances shift. And often, nothing on the outside gets fixed. But something on the inside can change.

In Philippians 4:6–9, the apostle Paul shows us a different way to live. From a prison cell, he teaches the church how thanksgiving reshapes the heart, how an excellent mind forms a faithful life, and how inward formation naturally becomes outward witness.

In this message, Thanksgiving and the Excellent Life, we explore:
• Why gratitude is not denial, but spiritual formation
• How thanksgiving leads to peace even when circumstances remain hard
• What it means to set our minds on what is true, noble, pure, and excellent
• How our thoughts shape our habits, actions, and witness
• Why pressing upward in faith always leads to going outward in love

This sermon is for anyone who feels anxious, distracted, discouraged, or hungry for a deeper way to live the Christian life. Paul reminds us that the excellent life is not about perfection, but about practicing faith, gratitude, and obedience in everyday moments.

When the people of God live thankful lives and think excellent thoughts, the world begins to see Christ in them.

Why God Blesses You in the First Place

What is God’s purpose behind blessing His people?

In Philippians 4:10–20, the apostle Paul shows us that contentment, generosity, and mission are deeply connected. God forms His people inwardly so His grace can flow outward. A church shaped by Christ becomes a church that blesses others.

In this final message of the Pressing Upward, Going Outward series, we explore:
• The difference between resignation and Christ-centered contentment
• Why generosity is an act of worship, not obligation
• How partnership in the gospel shapes both giver and receiver
• Why God’s provision is meant to free us for mission, not comfort
• How ordinary believers can bless the world through shared life and service

This sermon is for anyone wrestling with fear, scarcity, burnout, or the question: What does God want to do with what He’s given me?

God blesses His people so they can become a blessing.
The question is how we will respond.

There Was No Room for Jesus, And That’s the Problem

December fills up fast. Calendars get crowded. Schedules get packed. And without meaning to, Jesus often ends up with whatever space is left.

The Christmas story tells us there was no room in Bethlehem. Not because people rejected Jesus, but because life was already full. That same pattern still shapes our lives today.

In this message, Make Room for Jesus, we explore:
• Why busyness and hurry crowd out Christ
• How cluttered lives miss holy moments
• What it means to slow down and open space for God
• Why making room isn’t about doing more, but clearing space
• How surrender, service, generosity, and even baptism are ways we open the door to Christ

This sermon is for anyone who feels overwhelmed, distracted, spiritually tired, or longing for something deeper this Christmas season.

Jesus still stands at the door and knocks.
The question is simple: Will we make room?

Strive For The Prize

We all get stuck sometimes—spiritually, emotionally, or even in life’s routines. Paul knew that struggle. In Philippians 3, he admits he hasn’t arrived but keeps pressing forward toward Christ.

This message explores what it means to follow Jesus when it’s easier to coast. You’ll see how Paul’s determination, humility, and hope point us to a life shaped by the cross. Together, we’ll learn how to stop looking back, let go of comfort, and fix our eyes on the prize—Jesus Himself.

Whether you’ve grown weary or just need a push to keep going, this message will challenge and encourage you to press upward and outward in faith.

When Success Becomes the Enemy

We all chase success. Promotions, degrees, recognition, even ministry milestones. But what happens when those very blessings start replacing the grace that gave them meaning?

In this message, Lane Brown of Chandler Street Church of Christ walks through Philippians 3, where Paul flips the world’s scoreboard. What once looked like gain—status, achievements, control—becomes loss next to the surpassing worth of knowing Jesus Christ.

Through honest storytelling (including a dental chair in Costa Rica) and rich biblical insight, this sermon explores:

  • Why even good things can become spiritual distractions.

  • How God uses loss to build lasting faith.

  • The difference between a “quick fix” faith and deep transformation.

  • How surrender, not success, makes the Church credible again.

Key Passage: Philippians 3:4–11

Series: Pressing Upward, Going Outward
Message Goal: Trade the temporary scoreboard of success for the eternal reward of knowing Christ.

How Ordinary People Change the World!

What does it mean to be sent by Jesus? In Luke 10, seventy-two ordinary followers — not apostles, not spiritual elites — were sent out with a mission: to pray, to listen, to eat, to serve, and to share. And when they returned, they came back with joy.

This message explores the BLESS rhythm — Begin with Prayer, Listen with Care, Eat Together, Serve with Love, and Share Your Story — and how Chandler Street Church is stepping into this mission through GO Groups.

📖 Scripture: Luke 10:1–9, 17
🙌 Big Idea: Ordinary obedience brings extraordinary joy.

It Takes a Church to Raise a Child

On Teachers Appreciation Sunday, we honor the quiet heroes who shape the next generation — our children’s Bible class teachers. From Deuteronomy’s call to “impress God’s Word on our children” to Jesus’ command to “let the little children come,” this sermon casts a bold vision: it takes a whole church to raise a child in Christ.

Whether you teach, greet, rock a baby in the nursery, or simply show kindness to a child, your role matters more than you realize. Faith is passed down through relationships, and the seeds you plant today can bear fruit for decades.

✝️ If you’re looking for encouragement, challenge, and a reminder of the eternal impact of teaching and mentoring, this message is for you.

📖 Scripture: Deuteronomy 6, Mark 10:14–16, Matthew 18:5, Philippians 1:4–6, Ephesians 4:11–12, James 3:1

Let The Blessings Flow

What kind of church will we be—a stagnant oxbow lake cut off from God’s Spirit, or a steady river of blessing that keeps flowing? In this sermon, Blessed To Be A Blessing, we look at the Antioch church in Acts 11 and see how God uses ordinary believers to spark extraordinary mission.

Antioch was a young church, scattered by persecution, yet they crossed boundaries, stayed grounded in the Word, and gave generously to those in need. Their blessing wasn’t just a moment, it became a movement.

This message challenges us to ask: Are we clinging to the past, or are we sowing into the Spirit so that God’s blessing flows through us today? Jesus Christ is the living water, and when we remain in Him, we become springs of life for the world.

📖 Scriptures: Acts 11:19–30, Galatians 6:6–10

No One in Need: The Church That Shocked the World!

The first Christians did not just preach the resurrection. They lived it. Acts 4:32–37 shows a Spirit-filled community where believers were of one heart and soul. Their radical generosity and unity shocked the world around them. No one claimed their possessions as their own, and no one was left in need.

This sermon explores what it means to be a resurrection-shaped church today. How can we move beyond words into visible love, sacrificial giving, and authentic family? This is not just history. It is God’s dream for us.

📖 Scripture Focus: Acts 4:32–37
💡 Big Idea: The gospel is more than words. It is a life that people can see.

When Neighbors Become Family in Christ

What if the people next door weren’t just neighbors, but family? In Christ, we are called to do more than simply live near others — we are called to open our lives, our homes, and our hearts.

This sermon draws from Luke 10:25–37, Acts 13:1–3, and Ephesians 2:11–22 to explore what it looks like to step outside the walls of the church and into the everyday spaces where God has already placed us. Through real-life stories and biblical examples, we’ll see how intentional love, simple acts of kindness, and a willingness to meet people where they are can transform relationships.

When the church becomes a place where strangers become siblings, our neighborhoods catch a glimpse of the Kingdom of God. Join us as we learn to walk across the street, share a meal, listen deeply, and make space for people to belong — because in Christ, family goes into the neighborhood, and neighbors become family.
