Episode 5: Trick 'r Treat (2007) - "The Lost Episode!"

As promised to you, dear listeners, we present the pre-christmas /post halloween gift that keeps on giving: The Lost Episode of LWSM.

Unroll your sleeping bag and settle in as we travel back in time to October 2023, just before Halloween... Jenny was still pregnant, we all had more time, and the world was a simpler place full of untarnished hopes and blossoming dreams...

Well, fear not - we're still your devoted whorror-hosts, brimful of sarcasm and random horror trivia, now with a demon child running loose - here to break down one of the most Halloween-y of all Halloween-themed films: Michael Dougherty's directorial debut, "Trick 'R Treat."

Jenny and Kaitlin get into all the different storylines and the ties that bind them, Brian Cox's brilliant character, and Jenny proceeds to give three different scores!

Tune in to find out why and enjoy this little throwback from 2023.

Episode 4: Terrifier (2016) - "Brought to you by Buzzballs"

Our Cult B-movie Summer Series draws to a close at last! It might have stretched over several months but it seems appropriate to conclude it on this most auspicious of days: HALLOWEEN.

So, Happy Halloween all you ladies and gentleman! If you're here for a serious, academic critique... well, that's exactly what you're going to get!

Clocking in with our second lowest budget of the series at $35,000, we present to you the first film in Damien Leone's popular trilogy, "Terrifier."

Your whorror-hosts may have had one Buzzball too many, but join in the Halloween fun as Jenny and Kaitlin reminisce about BestieFest, discuss the cultural phenomenon that is JD Wetherspoons, and try to make out just what the hell their notes say?! Hey, it's a mystery and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Episode 3: Re-Animator (1985) - "Does This Place Have a Basement?"

The Cult B-Movies series is back... back to life! Like many of the corpses in this film...

This week Jenny and Kaitlin tackle Stuart Gordon's seminal classic, "Re-Animator."

There's 80s boobs, scream queen Barbara Crampton, naked corpses, and a class dedicated to scalp peeling. But that's not all!

Your whorror-hosts dig into what exactly makes this a comedy vs a horror, lament the lack of character development for Meg, delight in the dramatic dialogue, and remind you: don't forget to keep your decapitated head moist!

Join us, will you? We're just a couple of friends, hanging out, talking about defeating death.

Episode 2: Night of the Demons (1988) - "It's Not Schindler's List"

The Cult B-Movie series continues!

The terms "cult" and "B movie" are controversial ones to say the least, but Kevin Tenney's 80s classic "Night of the Demons" always seems to pop up on those top ten lists, so we're happy to join the party.

I mean, would YOU rather be watching the Olympics? We didn't think so.

Jenny and Kaitlin have a whale of a time discussing Linnea Quigley's ass, what constitutes a well-deserved eye gouging, and what may very well be the first female villain of a horror franchise.

In true whorror-host fashion, it's all a bit chaotic and there is mention of a LOST EPISODE... ! Maybe someday you'll hear it - but in the meantime - rest easy knowing you've got bodacious boobies.

Episode 1: Ozone Attack of the Redneck Mutants (1986) - "This is Not a Hollywood Film"

We're back, baby! Because there was a baby! But now it's season 2, it's summertime, we're reunited and what better way to celebrate than with a Cult B-movie series all about those low budget favorites?!

Kicking things off is probably the lowest budget film in our series, Matt Devlen's "Ozone Attack of the Mutant Rednecks."

And yes, the film is just as epic as the title makes it sound.

In this very special edition episode your whorror-hosts were lucky enough to sit down with director Matt Devlen for an interview - which will also be featured on the Blu-Ray re-release of the film!

Matt reveals behind the scenes details from filming on location in Texas, answers burning questions such as "why all the gore!?", and gets you up to date on everything he's been working on lately.

Warning: this is not a Hollywood film - and we couldn't be happier about it.

Episode 52: The Shining (1980) - "Jack Nicholson's Eyebrows"
Happy Halloween! And Happy birthday to us, we're two! We love to be consistently inconsistent and keep you on your toes - who knows when the next episode might be released?! But we are doing our best to keep them coming. This week we decided to tackle the beast that is Stanley Kubrick's polarizing ghost story, "The Shining." Your whorror-hosts discovered pretty quickly that they actually watched different versions: Jenny watched the shorter European version, and Kaitlin watched the longer US cut (appropriately). There's a lot going on as they compare versions, bring back the summary haiku, play "Rate the Bush," Jenny sings the soundtrack, Kaitlin gets really into the ATMOSPHERE, and we discuss whether or not Jack Nicholson has acting range, or is he just relying on those eyebrows?? It's fruit cocktail for weeks over here at the Overlook Hotel so come and play with us, forever...and ever.... and ever. Episode 51: Sissy (2022) - "A Fly-By Snuggle Fest"
We're back! Kind of! We've decided to skip September entirely and head straight to October and the lead up to both Halloween and Jenny's impending birth! The weather is changing, the clocks are going back, and the pumpkin spice candles are ablaze in anticipation... This podcast may be haunted (by technical issues) but your whorror-hosts sound better than ever as they review Hannah Barlow and Kane Sene's independent Aussie horror, "Sissy," currently streaming now on Shudder. Listen in as Jenny and Kaitlin go through the checklist: - Realistic female dialogue in the women's bathroom? check - Glitter eye makeup and nail polish? check - References to Tucker and Dale vs Evil? double check! But it's not all silliness as they also dig into bullying - what constitutes it and what is justified because of it - social media and the masks we wear, and who exactly is the villain here?? Ep 44: Skinamarink (2022) - "David Lynch's Wet Dream"
Your whorror-hosts are, once again, under the weather this week - due in part to the fact that they were recently together. What does this mean for the future?! Will they ever share a room together again without bringing about scurvy and consumption? But illness may very well explain why - when choosing this week's film - your hosts were swayed by none other than the Daily Mail's proclamation of it as, "...the scariest movie ever made." Dear listeners, join Jenny and Kaitlin as they try to make sense of it all; as they search desperately for plot devices, character development, dialogue, storytelling of ANY kind... and ask such profound questions as, is this art? Or is someone just trolling us? It's a SIMS game, it's 100 minutes of darkness, it's Kyle Edward Ball's polarizing film debut, 2022's "Skinamarink." So make a tea, get comfy, and listen in as your horror movie besties tackle Zach Cregger's directorial debut, "Barbarian." It's a doozy of an episode as Jenny kicks things off with a film summary haiku, then we discuss which Sarsgard is creepy and which one is hot, there's a "rave of screams" for the sound design, and our heroine Tess does everything right... until she doesn't. It's not all silliness though, as your whorror-hosts explore fatal flaws, gender stereotypes, social commentary, and attempt to answer the question: just who is the real barbarian here? Ep 39: Men (2022) - "How Many Rory Kinnears is That?"
Welcome to December (not November, and yes Thanksgiving has also now passed contrary to what we say in the episode)! Our extreme lateness is partially explained by the technical issues we encountered here, and our trying to fix them. We did our best but, the sound is... not great. There is volume disparity and echoing at times - we are working through our technical glitches so please bear with us, but if you have sensitive ears you may want to give it a miss. However, we care a lot about many of the themes in this movie and in our discussion so still felt it was worth posting! If you decide to listen (and we hope you do) there are mentions abound about assault, suicide, gaslighting, abuse, you name it. So, trigger warnings for pretty much the whole thing. In conclusion, let us not forget that our theme music is absolutely smoking hot and we highly suggest you check out The Brothers Keg. Now then - should you dare - join your whorror-hosts as they talk about their other favorite film, "Alan and the Ten Rings," Jenny composes a Haiku, live!, and they count Rory Kinnears - then count the pregnant ones.
