In this episode we talked about "Omugwo" which is an African tradition of postpartum care for nursing moms. Amaka shared her omugwo story and how the support of her mom's omugwo has helped with her quick recovery after childbirth. We talked about some myths about omugwo care (e.g. hot water compresses, pepper soup recipe, etc and its effectiveness). We also debated if it was acceptable to pay grandmas or relatives doing omugwo. While we disagreed on the method/ modality of payment, we agreed it was fair to appreciate them either financially or with gifts at some point. We also also talked about why some husbands pushback on their wives going for omugwo and abandoning them for extended length of time. This was a hearty familial episode.
