Carol Lee Loebenberg has built her full and diverse life based on her sincere belief in the values of community and kindness. Starting when she and her husband were a young married couple, her home has become an open house every Shabbat, hosting tens of guests on a regular basis. As of the date of this recording, this tradition has been going on for over 60 years.
Growing up in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, Carol Lee’s parents were her role models. They were devoted parents and deeply involved in their community. Her father, who felt a strong need to contribute to society when he couldn’t participate in the war, took the initiative to lead a social housing project that made a meaningful difference.
While studying at university in Halifax, Carol Lee met her future husband, Ralph Loebenberg, a medical student. She laughs that she was "the cheapest date on campus" — a cup of coffee was always enough. They married and chose to settle in Halifax, a decision that wasn't obvious at the time. With no Jewish day school, it posed challenges. But the Jewish community was strong and close-knit, and by intentionally living near Ralph’s workplace, they gained something invaluable: precious family time. Looking back, Carol Lee is certain — the choice they made blossomed into a life richer than they ever could have imagined.
Carol Lee became a devoted volunteer and leader in the community, taking on key roles at the shul, including leading major projects and running the shul kitchen for over 40 years. In addition to her work at the synagogue, Carol Lee, along with a few friends, spearheaded a major initiative: bringing the World Figure Skating Championships to Halifax. Their success was remarkable: they sold thousands of tickets and raised a million dollars, which went toward building a community ice rink — making skating accessible to all.
Life in the unique location of Halifax led to many unexpected events and encounters throughout Carol Lee’s life. Guided by a deep belief in human connection and kindness, Carol Lee found herself taking part in many fascinating experiences over the years.
At the age of 69, Ralph, Carol Lee’s husband, passed away after a battle with cancer. Just as he had been throughout his life — as a doctor, a family man, and a dedicated member of the community — Ralph remained a source of inspiration even in his final struggle.

הפרק השלישי של סיפור חייה של דבורה מוזס.
לכבוד הפודקאסט וחגיגיות יום ההולדת ה-85 של דבורה, התכנסו ארבעת האחיות לבית משפחת טאובה, מרים, אביבה, דבורה וסרינה למפגש הקלטה משותף לשיח על ילדותן.
הם שוחחו על ההורים והמניעים שלהם לעלות לארץ.
הן שוחחו על זכרונות הילדות מהשכונה ומהבית בירושלים בשנות השלטון הבריטי, מלחמת השחרור ושנים ראשונות של המדינה.
הן סיפרו איך הן מתחזקות את הקשר המיוחד שיש להן עשרות שנים.
והן אפילו שחזרו חלק קטן מהופעת שירה שלהן בילדות.
דבורה מוזס עברה עם משפחתה לירושלים כשהיתה בת כשנתיים וחוותה את ילדותה תחת השלטון בריטי, מלחמת השחרור ואחר כך מדינת ישראל הצעירה. משפחתה חיה בבית משותף של מספר משפחות שלכל אחד חדר או שניים משלו, שירותים משותפים לכולם, ומרתף אחד שהיווה עבור כולם מעין מקלט כשהפציצו הירדנים את העיר. ועל אף שחיו בצפיפות ובדוחק הם לעולם לא הרגישו שחסר להם משהו.
כשהיא כמעט בת 16 משפחתה של דבורה עברה לארצות הברית. לא היה קל ההסתגלות לחיים שם אבל לאט לאט הם הסתדרו. את התיכון דבורה סיימה בניו יורק, אחר כך הגיעה לאוניברסיטת בר אילן לשנת לימודים בארץ ומשם לסיום התואר הראשון חזרה בארצות הברית.
עם סיום התואר היא קפצה לביקור קצר בישראל עם תוכניות לחזור אליהן תוך שבועות ספורים לברוקלין. אבל אז, התרחש מפגש חשוב מאוד, עם משה מוזס, שיהפוך במהרה לאב ילדיה ובעלה האהוב עד לפטירתו אחרי 33 שנות נישואים מאושרות, ואחרי שפגשה אותו התכניות שלה, כמו שניתן להבין, קצת השתנו.
החיים המשותפים שלהם ינועו בין ניו יורק לפתח תקוה לפריז וחזרה, יכללו הקמת משפחה איכותית ואוהבת שבערבי שבת יתקבצו סביב שולחנם חברים רבים של הילדים מכיוון שארוחת השבת שלהם התארכה באופן קבוע בשיחות ובדיבורים ודבורה תתחיל עבודה בתור יועצת בבית הספר צייטליין בתל אביב, שם תפתח קריירה חינוכית משמעותית מאוד שתימשך 29 שנים.
בשנת 1997 תתגלה אצל משה מחלת הסרטן, תוך 10 חודשים הוא נפטר. דבורה היתה לצידו לאורך כל התקופה והיא יודעת להגיד היום שהיא שמחה על כך שהיה להם הרבה זמן איכות משותף בחודשים האחרונים שלו.
מספר שנים אחרי פטירתו של משה, דבורה נישאת בשנית, לאיתן בן דוד, ידיד ותיק של המשפחה, וממשיכה בחיים משמעותיים, של עשייה מתמדת, התפתחות ומשפחתיות.

Elsa Wilen grew up in Bogota Colombia. When her Hungarian born, adventurous father decided to leave Europe he went to the dock, saw two ships about to leave, one to Morocco and one to Colombia, and randomly chose the voyage bound to South America.
Growing up in Colombia in a traditional Jewish family, but not always able to go to Jewish schools, Elsa recalls how in the catholic elementary school she attended she would be sent by the teacher to the chapel, "to pay attention to Jesus" as she puts it. That was until someone told Elsa's mother and she put a stop to that. As a child, Elsa laughs, she was disappointed that her nice little daily alone time out of class was cancelled.
At 15 Elsa moves with her grandparents to Israel, excited as a young teenager to be having this new and cool adventure. She enrolls in a dormitory school but then soon starts to feel that this move was a big mistake.
That adventure lasted 6 months and then she came home.
Later as a young adult living in New York, working and enjoying the city life, she meets her future husband and is married within months of the move to the United States. Her female colleagues at work were in shock.
From a young child growing up in Bogota Colombia, witnessing the 1948 violent riots after the assassination of the Liberal party leader, having her parent's shop ransacked, and then a month later quietly celebrating with the rest of the Jewish community the declaration of the state of Israel, to a teenager, studying in the very demanding French school in the area, accumulating the equivalent of a few years of college education while still in high school, to a young adult, living in New York and taking advantage of all that city life can offer, to a young mother, that at first felt like an older sister to her eldest daughter, raising 3 children, building the foundation for their close family relationship, to a manager of a company she and her husband bought a little over a decade before retirement, to a grandmother and great grandmother who says with a smile that grandchildren are the profits you get from all your early investments, this is the story of Elsa Wilen.
