This is a softly spoken story about the History of the Roman Empire. In part one, I told you about the origins of Rome, its slow emergence and wars until the 1st Century BC - including the founding of the Republic and the rivalry between the Senate and the plebs, the conquest of Italy, the wars against Carthage, the overseas expansion, figures like Scipio, Marius, Sulla, Pompey, and Caesar, and also life, religion, society, urbanism, and warfare in Roman antiquity. In this second part, we go through the campaigns of Caesar, the transformation into an Empire under Augustus, the succession of emperors, and the challenges they had to face, as well as the rise and persecution of Christianism until the new religion was adopted, the Roman economy, barbarian invasions, the separation of the empire into two parts and the final collapse of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD.
