Red Wings were bad tonight. Period. They could not get out of their own way. Edvinsson was even benched. But hey, at least Brandsegg-Nygard got his 1st NHL point. #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings took 5 penalties in this game, two of which were back to back to start the game. This caused Buffalo to get the early momentum, and Detroit struggled to find theirs all game. Emmitt Finnie and Dylan Larkin did stay hot, and JT Compher got his 1st of the season. #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings have started a hot 5-1, beating some of the premiere teams in the NHL. Two weeks into the season, what has gone right for Detroit with their hot start? What questions still remain? Todd McLellan also updated the status of Patrick Kane, who will miss the next two road games. Previewing the Buffalo Sabres. #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings are off to a hot start, with a lot of young players. This means though that Erik Gustafsson, Travis Hamonic and Justin Holl have been pushed out of the lineup, and into Grand Rapids. Dave Pagnotta now reports Detroit is actively shopping some of these D-men. Why? Also, is Detroit's defense good now? #LGRW
What a weekend for Detroit. They beat both Tampa and Edmonton to extend their winning streak to 5 games, capping off a succesful homestand against playoff-caliber opponents. Against the Lightning, the Red Wings suffocated Tampa for 40 minutes and Gibson stood on his head through all 60. Axel Sandin-Pellikka scored his 1st career goal on Friday, and then Emmitt Finnie did as well on Sunday enroute to a 3pt night. Dylan Larkin is also on fire, with 6 points on the weekend and 11 in 6 games to start the year. #LGRW
For the first time since preseason, Nate Danielson was spotted on the ice in Grand Rapids wearing a non-contact jersey. In Detroit, Lucas Raymond is still day-to-day. Previewing the Tampa Bay Lightning and Edmonton Oilers. #LGRW
This game was always going to be a test without Lucas Raymond. But Mason Appleton stepped up to the top line and delivered two goals for Detroit en route to the Red Wings 3rd straight win. Patrick Kane and Michael Rasmussen also scored. It wasn't a perfect game, as there were a ton of turnovers, but it was tight back-and-forth game regardless. #LGRW
There are no updates on Lucas Raymond as of right now, but if he misses time that could be catastrophic for the team. What would forward lines look like? Also, previewing the Florida Panthers. #LGRW
The Red Wings were downright bad in this game. Turnovers and odd-man rushes galore, but Cam Talbot was up to the task making 38 saves and stealing victory from the jaws of defeat. James van Riemsdyk and Mason Appleton both score their firsts as Red Wings, propelling Detroit to the victory offensively. But Detroit did lose Lucas Raymond midway through the game, and if he is out for long that would be a huge blow to Detroit's lineup. #LGRW
It was an early defecit early, looking as if the Detroit Red Wings were on pace for another frustrating loss where they outchanced the opponent, but gave up too many of their own. But thankfully the offensive dam burst in the second period and Detroit cruised to a 6-3 victory. Lucas Raymond scored twice, including his 100th career goal, and Emmitt Finnie picked up his 1st NHL point on the first goal. Patrick Kane and DeBrincat had a lot of magic in them, both posting 3 point nights. And both ASP and MBN had strong outings as well. #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings started hot, but quickly unfolded with massive defensive mistakes. The third pair of Johansson and Hamonic got absolutley unwound by Montreal's speed, and John Gibson in net, while not at fault, didnt do enough to elevate the team past that. The rookies of MBN, ASP and Finnie looked ok enough. #LGRW
HOCKEY IS BACK. The Detroit Red Wings season is officially back as they look to kick off their centennial season at home against the Montreal Canadiens. The Red Wings will honor Alex Delvecchio all season long. #LGRW
What was long speculated has become reality! Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond have been named as THE Alternate Captains for the Detroit Red Wings. We also give our final predictions for the Detroit Red Wings season, in an ever-stacked Atlantic Division. We also react to Connor McDavid's insane short-term contract extension. #LGRW
Yesterday it was educated guess, today it's reality. Emmitt Finnie, Justin Holl and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard have made the Detroit Red Wings 23-man roster. How does this affect Detroit's season? What can we expect from the rookies? Erik Gustafsson and Justin Holl have cleared waivers. #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings played their final preseason game Saturday, and it was the final showcase for the three rookies who really stood out at camp. Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard certainly did, both having multi-point games. On Sunday, speculation began to swirl their efforts would be rewarded, as Erik Gustafsson and Justin Holl were placed in waivers. If they clear and are sent down this would mean their roster spots would be available. #LGRW
It is getting harder and harder to find reasons to keep Emmitt Finnie off this roster as he has ANOTHER impressive performance. He was not alone though, as Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and Axel Sandin-Pellikka also look strong in an overall dominating win by the Detroit Red Wings. Simon Edvinsson looked solid in his first preseason game too. #LGRW
During a media availability earlier today, Todd McLellan confirmed that Simon Edvinsson will play the final two preseaosn games. This will give fans their first genuine look at defensive pairs for the regular season. James Van Riemsdyk also returned to practice but will need a little longer to get up to game speed. Meanwhile, Sheldon Dries, William Lagesson, John Leonard, Ian Mitchell and Dominik Shine have been placed on waivers, signaling the first big wave of cuts. #LGRW
Can the Buffalo Sabres and Detroit Red Wings FINALLY snap their historically long playoff droughts? Can the Boston Bruins return to their usual winning ways after a disaster season? And are the Montreal Canadiens the class of this crop of four squads? In a special Atlantic Divison Hopefuls season preview, Joe DiBiase (Locked On Sabres), Brian Fisher (Locked On Red Wings), Ian McLaren (Locked On Bruins) and Ian Boisvert (Locked On Canadiens) link up to talk about life in the bottom half of the loaded Atlantic Division, and what the path to the playoffs looks like for each of them. They dissect each team’s FanDuel over/under projections, discuss big offseason moves, and dig into the stakes at play for each team if things don’t go to plan this season.
Cam Talbot rewound the clock, as he stood on his head against the Blackhawks allowing just one goal. Additionally, the PK was in top form killing all SIX penalties against last years 2nd best PP. Berggren and Soderblom also reall nice impressive plays to setup goals. #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings look disjointed and sloppy in their loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. John Gibson did what he could to bail out the team, but the Penguins were maintaining pressure. Moritz Seider was the lone player wearing an A, is he a lock? Nate Danielson hurt, looks to be shut down for the preseason. #LGRW
