In this final episode of the year, Brian and Jamie take a look back over 2025, the beginning of Long Haul Marriage, dealing with the grief of their less than sanctimonious departure from previous ministry positions, starting a new business TOGETHER, and testing the strength of their 35 year marriage in the most stressful pressure cooker in recent history!  They talk of the ups and downs, and realize with grateful hearts, that there have been way more ups than downs!  They talk about the rewards of their ministry, as well as lessons they've learned, and how their own marriage has grown through the process.  They share eternal gratitude for everyone who supports their ministry, and every couple that trusts them with their relationship.  They look forward to 2026 with excited and humbled hearts!

In today's episode, Brian and Jamie discuss the always daunting, and tricky task of parenting - especially in today's culture where social media, and "popularized" parenting pressures from all sides, can make us question if we're doing anything right!!  They discuss the stress of the holiday times, many times made worse by us working ourselves into a frenzy as parents, trying to be the "perfect" gift-givers for our kids.

They talk about their serendipitous conversation with 2 other couples in a 103 degree "World Spring" hot tub, which led to an incredible bonding experience, as they all shared just how hard it is to parent our kids these days.  We all love our children, and for sure mean well, but many times, our deepest intuitions will be tested, and although there may be a societal tidal wave in an opposite direction, many times those "popular" opinions will prove to be incorrect.  

Brian shares some insightful pages from The Hunter Gatherer's Guide to the 21st Century, by Heather Heying, and Bret Weinstein.

In today's episode, Brian and Jamie listen to a young, 20-something woman, ask questions that many young women are asking..."Is there really such a thing as passionate, romantic, even "obsessive" love that can last a lifetime?"  "If it does exist, can it truly last, forever?"  The deep questions reflect the fears that are prevalent among many, born from models of marriages and relationships where the honeymoon phase faded quickly, and one or the other bailed, getting tired of their partner, or where people chose to stay, but ended up resenting each other, and constant bickering or bitterness became the norm in a loveless marriage.

Brian and Jamie dispell the myth that such "fairy-tale" love (with no ups and downs) truly exists, but also discuss the value in choosing to love, making the decision to stay, even during the natural hard times that inevitably come in every relationship.  They talk about the incredible rewards of true love that is expressed in gratitude and forgiveness, loving even during tough times, which yields great gains through the pain.  

It's not either/or - either it's amazing forever, or it ends up "sucking."  They share how they are now in the most passionate, romantic, chemistry-filled season of their entire 36 years, and how it's always hard-fought, but totally worth it!

What will your life look like when you're 60? It will sneak up on you WAY FASTER than you could ever imagine! (Can I get a witness from all the old farts out there?)

In this week's episode, Brian and Jamie talk about how quickly Brian arrived at this milestone birthday, and what he has to show for it.  They talk about how time flies, faster even than the cliche', and how important it is to set your priorities based on your highest values, and relentlessly pursue a life devoted to those priorities.  For Brian and Jamie, it's all about family, and their 36 year marriage (and counting) is the foundational backbone upon which their legacy is being built.  They wouldn't trade it for anything.

Mostly at a loss for words, Jamie and Brian share their heavy hearts regarding their personal grief over the state of the world right now...yes, in regards to the collective reaction to the horrific, extremely public assassination of Charlie Kirk, but more widely, to the state of the human heart in today's world.

Not wanting to make any political statements, or discuss "conspiracy theories," or deep dive into one of a hundred rabbit holes, they simply share their sadness over the hatred that has become so normalized, especially on and by social media platforms, and that has destroyed civility in this country and around the world.  Yes, these are sad days, and they didn't just "arrive" out of nowhere.  Not wanting to be insensitive to the victims or families of tragic murders that happen every day, they acknowledge that this is nothing new, and that it is just a symptom of a deeper societal issue(s).

Made you look!!  Ok, so you may not be having an affair, or cheating on your spouse, but are you prioritizing your golf game, or your girl's night above your marriage?  Do you ever have to use the term "kitchen pass" around your buddies?  Have you "joked" with your girlfriends that you feel like a "hunting widow" every September through December?

In this week's episode, Brian and Jamie discuss prioritizing your marriage above EVERYTHING ELSE.  Although it takes some sacrificial living, and making some difficult choices, in the long run, giving your best to your marriage, your family, and your spouse will pay dividends like you could never believe.

Welcome back - and thank you for being here!!  We missed you all.  We're looking forward to Season 3, where we'll be sharing some more guest interviews, as well as some family/parenting content, as well as our usual marriage/relationship fare.

In our first episode of the new season, we dive into the work-a-day world, why we work "40 hours a week," leaving little time for ourselves, our passions/hobbies, and the people in our lives that truly matter to us.  What got us here, and is there a way out!?  We discuss the temptation to think we're trapped, even if we want to work less hours, or spend more "me" time during the week, and the cynical, "yeah, easy for you to say" attitude. We challenge our listeners, (and ourselves) to become curious about the statement, "You don't have to live this way."  Come along, and we hope you enjoy it.

We might sound like a broken record, but when it comes to issues that are problematic in marriage, none is more conspicuously at the top of the list these days than SOCIAL MEDIA, and our @#$% phones!!  In today's episode, Brian and Jamie talk about the prevalence of "early divorce," throwing in the towel WAY too early, and how easy it has become in our current culture (not easy, as in not difficult emotionally, rather convenient).  And what is leading many to be discontent, comparing their relationships or spouses to an on-line unicorn, is the addiction to social media, and the negative bias that we all have once we fixate on our differences.

Brian and Jamie challenge us to "fast" from our phones and social media, for a pre-determined length of time, and to notice the positive changes in our lives, and in our marriages.

This week, Jamie, is inspired by a Ben Rector post, talking about a chance encounter with the owners of a newish restaurant in San Jose, CA, called The Second Wife, brings some thoughts about putting yourself out there, risking "failure," and what that risk can bring into the world.  Although not crowded (like, he was the only one there) when Ben walked in, he thought about the passion of the owners who had previously meticulously laid out the silverware on each table, how the cooks in the kitchen were prepared, and even how the owner commented, "Oh, you'll LOVE that dish," after he had ordered. 

Brian and Jamie get into the divine, creative spark in each of us that is just waiting to be birthed into the world, and how many times, we may miss the opportunity to see God bring them to fruition, many times due to a variety of fears.

Be inspired today to do the thing, write the book, start the business, record the content, make the phone call - do it scared!!!

Have you ever had one of the cringiest, most embarrassing moments of your life, only to turn around a few minutes later to recall the event with your spouse, and find yourself laughing your butts off!!??

In today's episode, Brian and Jamie recount some of their most embarrassing, but most hilarious moments that they've shared, (while being publically humiliated), but lived to tell about.  They talk about the importance of not taking themselves too seriously, being able to laugh at themselves, and the major bonding experience that this can be.  Some of their most treasured moments of their marriage has been laughing themselves silly recalling what could have been a disaster, or even turned into a big fight.  Learning to laugh with one another can be one of the best medicines to heal, and to create a marriage for the long haul!
