[KiniNews] Activist Arun Dorasamy has claimed there was more “evidence” to contradict official statements on the deaths of three men in Durian Tunggal, Malacca, allegedly at the hands of police.

Speaking during a press conference at Lawyers for Liberty’s office in Petaling Jaya today, Arun revealed that he received a handwritten letter in Tamil from a whistleblower, along with photographs taken from the alleged murder scene.

He said the timestamps of the photos, which were shared with the media, corroborated an audio recording by one of the victims’ wives when the incident allegedly occurred.

Meanwhile, in a separate story, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s reminder to MIC not to “say one thing by day and another by night” concerning the party’s membership status in the coalition has not gone down well with MIC Youth, with its chief K Arvind taking issue with the remarks.

“If the issue truly is ‘saying one thing by day and another by night’, then the closest mirror Zahid should look into is Umno’s own leadership," he said.

[KiniNews] The Federal Court has instructed the prosecution to rethink its position on reinstating four criminal charges against Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

The instruction was similarly extended to the Muar MP’s defence team, with Court of Appeal president Abu Bakar Jais, as the chair for the three-member apex court panel, reportedly saying it is an appropriate time for both parties to “go back, reflect, and reconsider” their stances.

The panel then allocated one week for the prosecution to file additional written submissions, followed by another week for the defence to review and respond before making their position known.

Meanwhile, in a separate story, the Attorney-General’s Chambers decided not to appeal against Rosmah Mansor’s acquittal of 12 money laundering charges and five charges of failing to declare her income to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), as there is no prospect of conviction if the appeal were continued.

“Among the factors we considered was that the prosecution would not be able to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt as required when dealing with criminal charges. This is because some of the witnesses needed to secure a conviction have passed away, and others have gone untraceable,” said the AGC.

[KiniNews] Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor's new cabinet has been sworn in.

Besides leaders from his Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition, also in the line-up are Upko president Ewon Benedick, PKR's sole assemblyperson Jamawi Jaafar, and BN's Jafry Ariffin.

A list distributed to the media shows Ewon appointed as deputy chief minister III, with Dr Joachim Gunsalam and Masidi Manjun designated as deputy chief ministers I and II respectively.

Meanwhile, in a separate story, the MACC calling in businessperson Albert Tei’s lawyer, Mahajoth Singh, for questioning today is related to the graft buster's fear that evidence would be “destroyed”, a source familiar with the matter told Malaysiakini.

The source said such concerns were one of the justifications given when the MACC applied to remand Tei on Saturday.

When contacted, one of Tei’s lawyers, Zaid Malek said that Tei wants the matter to be investigated and denied that the businessperson would destroy evidence.
