In this special year-end episode, the boys sit down to reflect on a wild first year in business with Veritas Entertainment—a year defined by a breakneck pace of storytelling, creation, and real-world adventure. More than twenty books released, the creation and participation in multiple film festivals, and countless late nights building something we really believe in.

But beyond the milestones, this episode is about the friendships formed, the memories earned, and the shared mission that keeps pushing everything forward. It’s a look back at where it started—and a clear signal that this is only the beginning.

Discussing the Books & Ethos of Our Favorite Authors: Men's Adventure Fiction Podcast E74

Subscribe to Pulp, Pipe, & Poetry on Substack

https://open.substack.com/pub/pulppipepoetry

Consider becoming a paid supporter for automatic entrance into giveaways, early access to stories and production, and other great perks!

In this episode of the Men’s Adventure Fiction Podcast, we dive into our favorite adventure authors, the men whose stories didn’t just entertain us, but shaped how we think about courage, discipline, brotherhood, and the call to adventure itself.

We share recommendations and break down what we admire most about these writers: their respect for masculine virtue, their refusal to soften danger, and their commitment to heroes who act instead of hesitate. From grit and competence to honor and sacrifice, these authors uphold the timeless ethos of masculinity that great adventure fiction is built on. But this conversation goes deeper than books. We explore how the lives of the men behind the pen matter—how lived experience, hard-earned perspective, and real-world risk show up on the page. You can feel the difference between a story imagined from the sidelines and one written by a man who has tested himself, faced loss, taken responsibility, and grown.

If you care about stories that challenge men to be more, to live boldly, and to rise to the standard of the heroes they admire, this episode is for you.

The Betrayal of Masculinity in Media: Men's Adventure Fiction Podcast E73

Subscribe to Pulp, Pipe, & Poetry on Substack

https://open.substack.com/pub/pulppipepoetry

Consider becoming a paid supporter for automatic entrance into giveaways, early access to stories and production, and other great perks!

This week, we’re getting a little philosophical as we start up a lively conversation about masculinity in storytelling—on the big screen and on the page. The co-hosts take a spirited look back at the men of classic films and paperbacks, asking why those characters still hit us right in the chest. Then we turn to today’s landscape, getting into how modern portrayals often fumble the baton, feeling a little flimsy, a little dishonest, and not quite true to the heart of man. This goes beyond bad movies and stale books… we feel this is something that ripples out into the culture in a big way. So much so that a massive part of our mission here at Veritas Entertainment centers around bringing back that old school, masculine, storytelling.

Going the Distance — The Masculine Philosophy of Rocky (1976): Men's Adventure Fiction Podcast E72

This week on the Men’s Adventure Fiction Podcast, the boys step into the ring with one of the most iconic American films ever made: Rocky (1976). But this isn’t just any episode. This one’s personal. For co-host Luke, Rocky isn’t merely a movie; it’s the formative story of his life, a piece of cinematic mythology that shaped his understanding of resilience, purpose, and what it means to forge yourself into a man.

Together, the boys dig deep into the film’s beating heart: the quiet, unflashy masculinity of a man who refuses to quit. We explore why Rocky resonates so powerfully. Wh its philosophy endures long after the credits roll and how Sylvester Stallone’s own real-life underdog saga elevates the film from inspirational fiction to a creative battle cry.

Whether you’ve seen Rocky a dozen times or are stepping into the ring for the first time, this is an episode full of heart, storycraft, and the kind of raw inspiration that reminds you why you ever started swinging.

Take a breath. Lace the gloves.

It’s time to go the distance.

Men's Adventure Fiction Podcast E71: The Greatest Hardboiled Detectives Time Forgot

This week, we’re closing out Noir November with an explosive, two-fisted finale! We are going deep into Double In Trouble by Richard S. Prather and Stephen Marlowe—the ultimate crossover featuring two o Nathanael’s favorite hard-boiled heroes colliding in one wild, action-packed romp.

Shell Scott and Chet Drum team up, bullets fly, schemes unravel, and the wisecracks hit as hard as the punches… but is this high-octane adventure truly noir? Or is it something else entirely wrapped in a trench coat?… or kimono ?

Men's Adventure Fiction Podcast E70: Out of the Past & Maltese Falcon Discussion

This week on the Men’s Adventure Fiction Podcast, Noir November rolls on as we plunge into two of the most iconic shadow-drenched tales ever put on screen: Out of the Past (1947) and The Maltese Falcon (1941).

Both films sit at the crossroads of noir and hardboiled, raising the question we love to obsess over: Where does one end and the other begin? Are they different styles traveling parallel paths, or two sides of the same battered coin? With private eyes, doomed lovers, double-crosses, and fatalistic cool, these stories blur the line so well it’s almost impossible to tell.

We dig into the smoky aesthetics, the razor-sharp dialogue, the performances that broke their way into cinema history, and the narrative genius that defines each film. Whether you file them under noir, hardboiled, or something in between, one thing’s certain: we absolutely love these movies.

Men's Adventure Fiction Podcast
Men's Adventure Fiction Podcast E69: These Noirs Make Us Question EVERYTHING

This week on the podcast, we tumble down a shadowy staircase of cigarette smoke and existential confusion as Noir November rolls on. We start with The Postman Always Rings Twice and quickly realize we may not actually know what “noir” means.

Is it about moral decay? Moody lighting? Or is The Postman Always Rings Twice just an especially well-dressed soap opera with better lighting and worse decisions? We try (and fail) to draw that line.

Then we dive into Night of the Hunter, where Robert Mitchum’s knuckles spell out LOVE and HATE, and the Mississippi runs thick with Southern Gothic dread. Are we still in noir country, or have we drifted into a fever dream of hymns, horror, and hypnotic preachers? Either way, the water’s fine—just… don’t look too closely.

Men's Adventure Fiction Podcast E68: Noir & Its Many Messy Definitions

This week on The Men’s Adventure Fiction Podcast, we step into the shadows and launch Noir November. Before we dive into the classics, we take on our first case: what exactly is noir?

Is it trench coats and tough talk? Fatalism and smoke-choked city streets? Or is it simply a feeling — the sense that fate’s got you cornered and no one gets out clean?Men's Adventure Fiction Podcast E68: Noir & Its Many Messy Definitions

Join us as we try to define a genre that refuses to be pinned down. Spoiler: cracking this case might be tougher than we thought.

This week, we dive deep into Play Dirty, Amazon’s bold new take on Donald Westlake’s legendary antihero, Parker. From Lee Marvin and Mel Gibson to Jason Statham’s hardboiled turn, the Parker mythos has stalked the silver screen for decades — a mirror of our cultural hunger for men who live by their own rules.

But what does Play Dirty tell us about the state of modern action and adventure filmmaking? Has Hollywood lost its grit, or are we seeing the genre evolve beyond pulp and payback?

Join us as we trace the bloodline of masculine adventure — from the paperback racks of the ’60s to today’s streaming empires. We’ll unpack the Parker archetype, the shifting moral code of the modern tough guy, and why audiences still crave stories about men who refuse to play nice.

It’s a moment that’s caused all of us to pause and reflect on life, on purpose, and on the legacy we leave behind.

In this episode, we’re talking openly about what it means to face our own mortality, to think deeply about the limited time we have, and how we as men can live with intention, courage, and meaning.

Join us for a discussion about legacy, purpose, and the kind of men we’re striving to be… even when the adventure gets real.

What makes the perfect loadout for a rogue who laughs in the face of danger? Is it steel and gunpowder, wit and bravado, or just the right jacket/cloak with a devil-may-care grin? The hosts take turns building their fantasy kit of weapons and gear, weighing style against practicality, flair against function.

Join us as we raise the stakes, roll the dice, and see who can outfit the boldest, bravest, and most outrageous swashbuckler of them all.

This week, we sen into adventure as co-host Nathanael Hummel unveils his newest book: In th Heart of Alexandria!

Join us as we follow Giacomo Ferrentino and the French Foreign Legion on a daring mission beyond the edge of empire. Outside the ancient city of Alexandria Arachosia, a self-proclaimed heir to Alexander the Great has enslaved the people and raised an army 25,000 strong. Supplies are gone. Hope is dwindling. But Giac has a plan so bold it borders on madness: slip through forgotten tunnels, infiltrate the city alone, and open the gates.

🔥 One man against thousands.

⚔️ A heart of fire and an incorruptible blade.

🏰 An ancient city full of secrets waiting to be unearthed.

Can he turn the tide against impossible odds—or will Alexandria remain under a tyrant’s shadow?

During our conversatin we explore Nathanael’s inspirations for both character and story—drawing from swashbuckling icons like Tyrone Power’s Zorro, the otherworldly exploits of John Carter, the hard-hitting pulp of El Borak, and even the gem Hub from Secondhand Lions.

It’s adventure, courage, and classic pulp storytelling at its finest. Tune in now, and prepare to buckle your swash.

This week, Nathanael Hummel and Luke Goozdich crack open the vault of cinema’s greatest ensembles—the motley crews, outlaw bands, and stitched-together strike forces that redefine “strength in numbers.” Think Inglourious Basterds carving a bloody path through Europe, The Magnificent Seven riding hard into certain death, Ungentlemanly Warfare rewriting the rules of covert ops, and Ocean’s 11 turning crime into high art.

Every team has its secret weapon, every roster its brains—and Nathanael and Luke are ready to pull those threads. The debate ricochets between strategy, style, and sheer spectacle: is it grit that wins the day, or finesse? Loyalty, or ruthlessness?
And when the smoke clears, it won’t be the hosts who decide. That call belongs to you. Which ensemble would you march beside, and which one wouldn’t survive the opening act? Tell us in the comments— what are the best ensemble crews out there?

The Draft. Nathanael Hummel and Luke Goozdich each step up to assemble their dream teams of seven men’s adventure icons. The body count rises fast—at least in the imagination. Arguments fly like shell casings as our hosts defend every pick, bargain over battlefield tactics, and plead their case for supremacy.

Then we flip the book—and the battleground: That’s right, the final call isn’t ours. Who walks away victorious? Which roster of bruisers, shooters, and larger-than-life legends comes out on top? The verdict rests in your hands, down in the comments. Because in the end, what’s a battle without a cheering—or jeering—crowd?
