#333 – THE FIRST FOUR from the mighty PANTERA
“I wonder if we’ll get a cease and desist on this episode…”   Generally speaking, whenever someone says “Slayer” or “Metallica”, you think of two veteran thrash bands which both formed in 1981 and both released their debut albums in 1983. This is common knowledge among most fans of both of these bands.    Ironically, there’s another band who follows this exact same timeline of forming in 1981 and releasing their debut album in 1983, yet at the time, they were NOT at all thrashy…not even close.    Most of us know of PANTERA as the brutally heavy, groove metal masters from Arlington, Texas who lit a proverbial fire under the ass of the thrash and heavy music scene in 1990 with their “major label” debut album (with the emphasis, in this case, on the words “major label”) as CFH was actually their FIFTH studio album.    Fifth? Wait a minute…what about THE FIRST FOUR studio albums!? And why are those albums not talked about and celebrated just like all things PANTERA!?    Well, there’s a reason that THE FIRST FOUR aren’t really talked about or acknowledged. Actually, there are probably a multitude of reasons, but the most glaring one is the stylistic difference between their early glam and power metal days and the heavier, grittier era when they truly became the “Cowboys From Hell”.    Remember those awkward Olan Mills pictures you used to take with the family, or better yet, the pictures of you in high school with that absurd, dorky hairstyle that people always like to bring up in conversation? That’s kinda what THE FIRST FOUR ALBUMS by PANTERA were like.   Always remember that “Dokken is better than KISS” and you absolutely have to “pill up before PT”. Find out why “concubine” is a much cooler term than girlfriend, why the stress of having multiple families can be fatal, and realize that most doctors’ definition of “prescription pain medication” is painfully incorrect and a complete waste of a prescription pad.    Get ready to find out which Pantera album came out on Rex’s 20th birthday, which song features Dime on lead vocals, and understand that while we absolutely did not plan for this to be episode 333, it just so happened to turn out that way.    Brace yourselves and get your relaxers ready before you JOIN US as we go back to the 80’s to get a better idea of why one of the greatest metal bands of all time tried to bury their earliest work (and original “not as metal” logo) with THE FIRST FOUR from the mighty PANTERA. #332 ANTHRAX WORSHIP MUSIC Album Review
“I’m not Peter North shooting ropes across the room…”   Released on September 12th (and in the U.S. on the 13th), 2011, WORSHIP MUSIC is the first ANTHRAX album featuring Joey Belladonna on vocals since 1990’s Persistence of Time and is truly a return to their thrash roots, with a nice blend of classic 80’s era Thrash Thrax and the more groove laden heaviness of 90’s era Bush Thrax. This was definitely a comeback album for them and kicks off the 2010’s era with loudness, fastness, and awesomeness. Discover “the most Christmasy sounding porn name”, find out what it really means when “the handy dude” comes over and starts “cleaning the gutters”, and be sure to enjoy Boxing Day Eve when you JOIN US as we dive into the revival of Joey era Thrash Thrax with WORSHIP MUSIC.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merchand kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can’t be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast Show Notes: (00:01): “Merry Christmas, everybody…you can say that in America, right…again?” / “We were shamed for saying it…”/ “At some point you can’t say anything…”/ “Is it root or route? #331 THE YEAR IN METAL – 1996
“You can’t be funny if you’re happy all the time…”   1996 marked the time that The Super Bowl went Triple X, when Atlanta hosted the Summer Olympics, the United States national debt was a measly $5 Trillion, and the world of heavy metal continued its march forward, trudging past the brief grunge fad into darker, sludgier, and heavier waters.    “Is this KISS?”   The thrash period of the early 90’s had already faded away as the grunge period came and went, and the overall vibe of metal was shifting to something even angrier and darker, with a veritable orgy of new metal subgenres popping up and coming online faster than OnlyFans accounts during the lockdowns of 2020, back when we were all just trying to “flatten the herd”.   “Now it’s just me and Wristina…she’s been by my side forever…she knows all the moves…”   Discover why having a “fistful of Jergens” is essential and why shampoo bottles should really come with a warning label. Get your holiday prime rib dinner properly roasted, get your state of consciousness properly toasted, and JOIN US as we look forward to 2026, a mere 30 years since THE YEAR IN METAL – 1996. #330 THE ULTIMATE SIN Album Review
“There were 2 years of my life that I was dead certain I was gonna be a breakdancer…”   The release of THE ULTIMATE SIN on January 24, 1986, the 4th studio album from OZZY OSBOURNE (and the 2nd & final album to feature Jake E. Lee on guitar) is definitely one of the heaviest albums of Ozzy’s 80’s output.    “I’ve got the magic!”   With heavier riffs, crazier guitar pyrotechnics, and darker lyrical themes like nuclear annihilation, THE ULTIMATE SIN blends in just the right amount of glam while still maintaining the essential heaviness that is a prerequisite for any classic OZZY album. While perhaps a bit “more Blizzard than Diary”, it’s a dramatic improvement from Bark At The Moon and is overall heavier and more focused.   “Oh yeah, the ‘dunniguhh’? Yeah…I remember that one.”   Get ready for some metal news and current events, understand that “most people, if they have a mustache” can only look like one of three different people (or a combination of all three), and accept the fact that “the bur-duh-dur is what got ‘em”.    Be sure to check out our 2 brand-new embedded podcasts within this one and realize “I’ve lost my magic…ever since you moved me over here…” when you JOIN US as we head back to the mid-80’s with OZZY OSBOURNE and THE ULTIMATE SIN. #329 Opeth THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT Album Review
“I don’t think I’m smart enough to listen to this…”   As with the many legendary concept albums that have come before, masterpieces such as King Diamond’s Abigail, Queensryche’s Operation: Mindcrime, and Dream Theater’s Scenes From A Memory, THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT, the latest offering from OPETH, is one of the finest examples of storytelling ever captured in audio form and is their first proper “concept album” to date.    “They cram so much into such a small space…”   Chronicling the reading of the will of a wealthy patriarch (and featuring Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull as the patriarch in question), THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT perfectly represents the culmination of the various components that have established OPETH as a progressive metal force to be reckoned with for more than 30 years.    “I realize this is not y’all’s favorite flavor of the month…”   With a seamless blending of their early progressive and melodic death metal period through their more eclectic, 70’s prog rock infused progressive metal period of the 2010’s, OPETH is akin to a “haunted house version of Dream Theater”, loaded with a wide  variety of sonic textures, top tier instrumental prowess, and vivid lyrical imagery, all of which are covered in a thin drapery of darkness.    “Have they ever done anything ‘hooky’?”   JOIN US as we take on what is arguably one of the finest progressive metal concept albums in existence (and most certainly a top contender for “Album Of The Year”) and quite possibly the greatest OPETH album of all time, THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merchand kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can’t be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast Show Notes: (00:01): “I would like to take this moment to say…AND…” / #GeorgiaBulldogs / “Dangole sports ball dawgs…” / #Natty / “Speaking of Athens…my only thought was…R.E.M. must have written this song…”/ #WeBuiltThisCityASMR / “That’s when they dropped the Jefferson…”/ “As long as there’s a bend in the wrist, you’re fine…”/ #markthetime / ***WARNING: #listenerdiscretionisadvised *** / #waitforit #markthetime / “And I screamed like a little girl…not one footstep did I hear…”/ ***WELCOME BACK TO THE METAL NERDERY PODCAST!!!*** / #strangerinthetub #jackoffhand / “Like a chimpanzee?”    (06:06): PATREON US at www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast  / “Who knows? #328 – Thanksgiving Vacation Tapes
It’s that time of year…time for some big tasty turkels, delicious side dishes, and a nice tryptophan induced nod after feasting yourself into fullness and naptime. It’s THANKSGIVING, and while most folks are gearing up for the coming holiday season (which will start promptly in the pre-dawn hours of Black Friday), we realize that we’ve NEVER taken any time off during the holidays and that perhaps it’s time we enjoy a little holiday breather.    With that in mind, we’ve put together a veritable cornucopia of clips from our 2025 collection that we hope you enjoy. Our only real cautionary advisory would be that you listen to this prior to enjoying your Turkey Day feast in order to avoid the very real possibility of laughing until you vomit.   Happy Thanksgiving to all!!! Enjoy your Thanksgiving Day feast, prep carefully if you’re deep frying a turkey, be thankful and gracious for the lack of giblets in your gravy, and enjoy an abundance of relaxers before dinner with the family when you JOIN US for the most off-putting, irresponsible, and exhausting VACATION TAPES you’ve ever heard. #327 DEATH MATCH: Puppets vs Justice Side 2
“Those guys are parents to 2 babies…and we’re fighting over which baby is cuter…”   With SIDE 2 of our PUPPETS VS JUSTICE HEAD-TO-HEAD DEATH MATCH, things are a bit trickier, because the math doesn’t sync up perfectly track for track. But not to worry, because we worked out all the math to try and keep things as “Even Steven” as possible.   “You go to the peak of your ability…that’s what Justice was…it was their Hemispheres…”   As we noted previously on the SIDE 1 episode, PUPPETS represents the end of the Cliff Burton era, and JUSTICE represents the beginning of the Jason Newsted era. On SIDE 2, we got deeper into the weeds, particularly with regard to the lyrical subject matter, the style and structure of the songs, and the personal impact and perspective of the instrumentals. We’re not saying that this was a complete blowout, and we’re not saying that the outcome was predictable by any means, but what we ARE saying is that the final verdict was actually a bit more shocking than we originally anticipated.   “What are they saying, dude?”   Stick around until the very end of the episode to discover the power of “frontmasking” after you JOIN US for the nail-biting conclusion to our PUPPETS VS JUSTICE HEAD-TO-HEAD DEATH MATCH as we take on SIDE 2. #326 DEATH MATCH: Puppets vs Justice Side 1
“How about we let the producer ‘produce’?”   We’ve all heard that METALLICA’s “last great album” was 1986’s haunting thrash metal magnum opus, MASTER OF PUPPETS, one of the finest moments in the band’s catalog and the final studio album of “The First Three” to feature Cliff Burton on bass.   “I don’t care if there’s no bass…I’m sorry…”   We’ve also all heard (especially since the release of The Black Album) that METALLICA’s “last great album” was 1988’s progressive thrash metal tour de force, …AND JUSTICE FOR ALL, the fourth METALLICA studio album overall and the first (of four) to feature Jason Newsted on bass (according to the liner notes, anyway).   “The bass is the LAST thing I listen to…”   Having said that, BOTH are outstanding and powerful albums for very different reasons, with PUPPETS marking the haunting, final chapter of Cliff Burton’s legacy with what many fans consider to be the classic, legendary era of the band, and JUSTICE beginning a brand new chapter for the band with Jason Newsted, launching METALLICA into a new era that would ultimately result in their meteoric rise to success and glory as the biggest and most popular heavy metal band on planet earth.   “Y’all are gonna abuse me for using this word…”   JOIN US for a HEAD-TO-HEAD DEATH MATCH that promises to be absolutely “creamy” and chock full of 80’s metal nostalgia and loads of heated commentary as we take on SIDE ONE with 1986’s MASTER OF PUPPETS & 1988’s …AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merchand kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can’t be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast   Show Notes: (00:01): “Listen to the B-roll stuff…that’s the gold…” / #LOL / “Let’s get right in the paint…” /  Delicious homemade beer, courtesy of Russell…/ #thisepisodesbeeroftheepisode / #Pinter / “Produc?” / #BlueDog #BrewDog / “You take the package, and you put it in the thing…”/  “Blue package?” / Appalachian Tropical IPA / “The first few were all head…” / #markthetime / “An Irish Persian…”/ #RussellsHomebrewReflections   (5:55): “Let’s raw dog it…” / ***PATREON US on the Patreon at www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast *** / “Sorry, I was mid-swallow dude…” /  Potential upcoming #Doomsicle goodness… / #cupping / “Sorry, I almost ran out of gas…” / “I cupped right when I thought I was losing it…”/ “I got an idea for that…”/ #genre / #Skynet   (08:43): SOCIAL MEDIA US at #YouTube #Facebook #TikTok #Instagram at #metalnerderypodcast / EMAIL US at metalnerdery@gmail.com / “I wanna see one, dude…I wanna see a real one…” / ***GIVE US A CALL AND VOICEMAIL US AT 980-666-8182!!!*** / #PissingPostASMR / “He’s building…anticipation…antica-pation…” /  Antissa Payshun and Justin Case / “THIS is why…”/ “This is my son, Hourly Wages…my son Low…here’s my son Drained…” / #JustinCase  (13:33): #TheDocket METAL NERDERY PODCAST PRESENTS:  MASTER OF PUPPETS (1986) VS …AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (1988) – HEAD-TO-HEAD DEATH MATCH: SIDE 1 / “We’ve done an ’88 and an ’86 Death Match with #Metallica and #Slayer, but now it’s gonna be ’86 and ’88, Metallica Style!!!” / “This might affect our friendship…” / “Not a shitty album…shittily produced album…”/ “No, here’s the reason…I know y’all know this…” / #GarageDaysRevisited #VeryUnproduced / “Where’s the guy you just hired to replace the guy who just died?” / NOTE: Garage Days was noted as being “Not Very Produced” / “It’s a dry mix dude, it’s a super dry mix…the drums are WAY up front…” / #AstonMartin / “That looks like a Camaro, dude…” (20:42): BATTERY / “You hear that in the background?” / “The bass is the LAST thing I listen to…” / “Here

#325 NATIVITY IN BLACK: A TRIBUTE TO BLACK SABBATH
“Y’all don’t have to make everything about everything…”   Time has a strange way of playing with the mind and blurring perceptions. For example, 24 years is effectively a quarter of a century, and while that sounds like a pretty vast swath of time, in reality it is merely a tiny speck in the grand scheme of the endless universe. To put it another way, as of the date of this episode in 2025, it has been the same amount of time (24 years) since 2001, which included the launch of Wikipedia, the September 11th attacks, and the very first iPod by Apple.   In keeping with the relativity of time, NATIVITY IN BLACK: A TRIBUTE TO BLACK SABBATH was released way back in 1994, a whopping 24 years after the groundbreaking eponymous debut from Birmingham’s founding fathers of metal. At that time, in the early 90’s, it seemed as if eons of time had elapsed from the release of Sabbath’s debut until the release of this tribute honoring the classic Ozzy era of Sabbath from the 1970’s and their collective contributions to the heavy metal canon.    To take the concept of time just a step further, Black Sabbath recently played their final concert (Back To The Beginning) 55 years after the release of their debut album, and it has now been 31 years (as of the date of this episode, in 2025) since the NATIVITY IN BLACK compilation was unleashed upon the metal world, featuring some real bangers from metal bands spanning a variety of subgenres that still holds up to this day.   Discover the proper pronunciation of names which you have been saying the wrong way you’re entire life, including “Schuldiner, Peart, and chimpanzee”, hear our latest movie pitch for Rob Zombie, and remember the reason for feeling uneasy when you are unable to “touch bottom” after you JOIN US as we dive in to the first compilation of Black Sabbath covers that was cheekily named after Bill Ward’s beard with NATIVITY IN BLACK: A TRIBUTE TO BLACK SABBATH. #324 VENOM - INSIDE THE METAL - THE 80’s
“I had to watch it 3 or 4 times to finally get there…”   Ahhh, the 80’s. A time when people could actually afford to live, back when Taco Bell was both super cheap and equally delicious, horror movies were genuinely scary and often boasted incredibly “special” special effects, and terrified parents everywhere were completely “freaking the motherfrickin’ frick out” over heavy metal and the ensuing “Satanic Panic” that followed. (Remember, we’re talking about the 80’s here…)   “I kinda feel like Satan probably listens to Air Supply nonstop…or Gino Vanelli…”   Not to worry though, because Tipper Gore was on the case, going out of her way to ensure that the future prosperity of heavy metal would be secure forever with the PMRC seal of approval (PARENTAL ADVISORY – EXPLICIT CONTENT) plastered on the cover of everything that would be deemed essential listening.   Thanks to the diligent efforts and painstaking research of Tipper Gore and her Parents Music Resource Center, the PMRC lovingly crafted “The Filthy Fifteen” for American parents to ensure that their children would only be exposed to the finest audio artistry the heavy metal genre (and somehow, also Satan) had to offer.  One of the bands included on that fateful list were the founders of black metal, VENOM (ironically, rated “O” … for “Obviously” …as in “Obviously, your kids should be listening to this!”).    Hailing from probably the fanciest, most upper crust sounding city in all of England, Newcastle upon Tyne’s 3-piece of evil VENOM came blasting out of the gates of hell with what would become the foundation for the black metal genre that would begin its ascent into heavy metal culture around the same time as thrash metal in the early 80’s, with a sound combining the rawness of Motorhead, the darkness of Sabbath, and the speed of thrash with an imagery reminiscent of KISS if they were actually satanists.    If Black Sabbath are ground zero for the formation of heavy metal as we know it, then VENOM is no doubt the Black Sabbath of the black metal genre. With a dark, detached creepiness that sounds like something recorded in an underground mausoleum, VENOM are the originators of extreme metal and were out in front, scaring the hell out of parents everywhere and delighting young and impressionable metalheads the world over.   Happy Halloween everyone!!! It’s time to celebrate spooky season the way we did back in the 80’s, by going through your kids trick-or-treat plunder and picking out all of that “good candy”. #323 CORONER DISSONANCE THEORY Album Review
“You can understand everything he says…he’s much more pronunced.”   With Diego Rapacchietti, the “Swisstalian” timekeeper who replaced original drummer Marky “Marquis” Edelmann behind the kit, both Ron Broder (Ron Royce) and Tommy Vetterli (Tommy T. Baron), known collectively as Swiss thrash kings CORONER, have returned with DISSONANCE THEORY, the first new studio album featuring brand new material from the progressive thrash trio in over 30 years and the album which already has thrash fans worldwide shouting proclamations of Album of the Year.   Released on 10/17/2025, DISSONANCE THEORY is easily the finest thrash album in decades and may quite easily take the crown as CORONER’s magnum opus, a master work of progressive, technical thrash tempered with unmatched riffs, majestic solos, and a brilliantly engineered sonic vengeance where the drums, bass, and guitars each sit perfectly within the mix. It’s one of those albums that continues to impress exponentially with each subsequent listen and is, without question, a masterpiece, and an absolute joy to listen to.   “Just when you think all the riffs have been written…NOPE!”  Remember that the word for this episode is “texture” and JOIN US as we celebrate CORONER’s crowning achievement in thrash greatness with the unpredictably precise complexity of tech prog thrash genius, DISSONANCE THEORY. #322 TYPE-O-NEGATIVE OCTOBER RUST Album Review
“That dude is Dracula, man…”   The entire month of October is Halloween. And you can’t do October without TYPE-O-NEGATIVE, as they are the official soundtrack to the month of Halloween.    Released August 20, 1996, OCTOBER RUST, their 4th studio album (or 3rd if you count “Origin of the Feces” as a “live” album, which we actually do, even though it’s technically not) is much more gothy, textured, and atmospheric than previous TYPE-O albums while still maintaining the same gothic, heavy, doom laden aesthetic of their previous albums, making it the perfect sonic representation of all things Halloween: vampires, werewolves, haunted houses, haunted relationships, hot bisexual goth girls who are into threesomes, bottles of red wine, and lonely forests bathed in the colorful, seasonal transformation that is autumn.   It's time to imagine Molly Ringwald dressed as a goth girl for Halloween as you feast your ears on the creepiest, evilest sounding keyboards in metal while summoning Bacchus (the god of wine and revelry and/or tits) to help prepare for this season’s “fistivities”.   Discover the actual definition of “zoanthropic paranoia”, find out what happens when you make a goth girl squirt, and learn about Peter Steele’s lesser known “nickname” when you JOIN US as we rrrrrrroll our R’s rrrrrrright on through creepy season with OCTOBER RUST. #321 CORONER: Inside The METAL
“I didn’t do stink finger until sophomore year…”   Switzerland is known for a few things with holes in them, most notably their cheese (and quite possibly their chocolate). But the biggest hole Switzerland is known for (other than CERN) is the seemingly endless void between the last CORONER studio album (“Grin” in 1993) and their upcoming 2025 release “Dissonance Theory”, which makes the gap between Tool albums look like a couple of weeks by comparison.    As one of the most technically progressive, avant-garde thrash bands in the entirety of Metal, CORONER are the kings of odd time signatures, unusual chord shapes, and mathematically challenging riffs that set them apart from the rest of the pack, and we’re so glad they’re finally back!   Often called “the Rush of thrash metal”, most likely due to the incredible depth, musical complexity, and texture of music that a 3-piece band of their stature can deliver, CORONER doesn’t sound like anyone else in the thrash metal canon.    Discover the potentially dark traits shared by those with middle names who write in notebooks, understand the line of distinction between “a millionaire and a billionaire”, and find out why sex on Christmas Day ensures you’ll be celebrating birthdays “on the same day as Russell” when you JOIN US as we go INSIDE THE METAL with the best roadies Celtic Frost ever had, featuring Switzerland’s masters of techno thrash sorcery, CORONER. Released 10/15/1996, WISEBLOOD, the 5th studio album from CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, is the perfect soundtrack to October and everything that goes with it, including shag carpeting, wood paneling, and fresh greens.   Filled with driving metal riffs and all of the sonic textures that made the 70’s the best decade for music, the “Skynyrd Fried Sabbath” infused 70’s jam band stylings of WISEBLOOD evokes a “super-heavy fuzzy 70’s” vibe that pairs well with the flower of your choosing.    Go fix yourself a PB&J (or a P&BJ) sandwich, relish the privilege of getting a Senior Discount for looking like a wizard at The Chick-Fil-A of burgers, and remember that “pre-AIDS poon is the best kind” when you JOIN US for a dose of retro southern metal with CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and WISEBLOOD.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merchand kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can’t be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast Show Notes: (00:01): “It’s gonna be a good show…All 7’s…” / #SiriusXM / “Doesn’t that mean #TheLord though?”/ #TheNumberOfCompletion / #markthetime / “Somebody left a lipstick in here…freshly used…”/ “Siri?” / Be careful what you say because Siri is ALWAYS listening…and always active…ALL the time…/ ***WARNING: #listenerdiscretionisadvised ***/ #RayBanSkynetMeta sunglasses / #RepeatedReflections / “I get it!”/ ***WELCOME BACK TO THE METAL NERDERY PODCAST!!!*** / #SeniorDiscount / “I love #Culvers because they’re like the #ChickFilA of burgers…”   (7:30): #RussellsSausageReflections / “Now I want sausage…” / “Y’all knew about the gout attack…”/ “Back to the sausage…” / #markthetimeagain / “They’re just bun length hot dogs…” / A “brief” review of the #NIN show at Gwinnett Arena / “Here’s what the really cool thing was…”/    (15:55): EMAIL US at metalnerdery@gmail.com & leave us a rating and a review wherever you download our podcast, FIND US on the social media at #Facebook #Instagram #YouTube and #TikTok at #metalnerderypodcast and PATREON US at patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast / PATREON SHOUT OUT / ***You can VOICEMAIL US at 980-666-8182!!!*** / That time when Axl Rose filled in for Brian Johnson in AC/DC / “I thought it was only a couple of shows…”/ #cashgrab / “Bad Axl: that should be the name of his solo band…” / #MyHonk / “Pre-AIDS poon is the best kind…”   (24:15): Psychic Slayer of the episode / “There was so many rascals…”/ #Slayer BEHIND THE CROOKED CROSS (South of Heaven – 1988) / A misspoken Slayer factoid/observation that wasn’t so recent.    (28:16): #TheDocket / “By the time y’all hear this, it’ll be Rocktober…Metaltober…The soundtrack to weed, shag carpeting, wood paneling…”/ METAL NERDERY PODCAST PRESENTS: CORROSION OF CONFORMITY - WISEBLOOD / Released 10/15/1996 /  “There’s 7 illuminati pyramids…”/ KING OF THE ROTTEN / “It goes from driving metal riffs into total 70’s vibes…like southern rock on steroids” / #SkynyrdFriedSabbath   (34:10): LONG WHIP/BIG AMERICA / “You can’t have the 70’s without 7’s…”/  “If this album came out today, would it be bigger now than it was then?”/ “I hear that, and it’s shag carpeting, wood paneling, fall, and weed…” / #Sativa vs #Indica / WISEBLOOD / “It’s just super heavy fuzzy 70’s…”/ GOODBYE WINDOWS / #SmogMountain / “The coke line inventory is very good, across the board…”/ “I just need like $500,000…”   (45:54): BORN AGAIN FOR THE LAST TIME / The problem with being constantly reincarnated with no memory of past lives / “The snooch looks like a #StarCrunch bar…don’t put your dick in it!”/ DROWNING IN A DAYDREAM / “Godzilla!” / “I’m having a hard time between this and Deliverance right n

#319 CHRONICLES II pt 2: CHECK YOUR HEAD by BEASTIE BOYS
“Is that Richard Pryor?”   Released 04/21/1992, the 3rd official BEASTIE BOYS studio album, CHECK YOUR HEAD, is a genius title because this album is “all up in here” and is the perfect psychedelic ASMR accompaniment to justify your luxury headphone purchase.    While this episode is more than a little bit “off the reservation” we feel like with the right headphones and the right relaxers you’ll be in just the right mood to really enjoy it from beginning to end.    Loaded up with a wide variety of sonic textures, grooves, and more 70’s vibes than even Tarantino can shake a stick at (including the gratuitous use of Hammond B-3 keyboards and visions of wood paneled walls and orange shag carpeting), CHECK YOUR HEAD is the perfect album to make the trip back to 1974 “back when thunder sounded like thunder”. Get ready for a Bunkerpoon ghost story regarding some paranormal activity captured during our recent Mastodon episode, find out what you’re NOT supposed to do when the red tide reaches the slippery shores of Snooch Gulch, remember that “Eerie Inhabitants 1988 thunder does not sound like 2025 thunder“ and JOIN US for CHRONICLES II: Part II – Off The Reservation with the BEASTIE BOYS and get ready to CHECK YOUR HEAD. #318 CHRONICLES II pt 1: KISS DESTROYER
“In fairness, I guess if they didn’t have the make-up, what would they have? A different career?”   Released March 15, 1976, DESTROYER, the “iconic and mysterious” 4th studio album by KISS, was the first studio release after their breakthrough double live album ALIVE!, which chronicled their first 3 studio albums in a live concert setting and really brought the power and spectacle of the live KISS concert experience of the mid 1970’s to the masses.    Getting winded from tying your shoelaces is “the saddest thing about getting older” after coming to grips with the glaring realization that KISS just isn’t quite as awesome at middle age as it was upon hearing it for the first time in early childhood. But having said that, KISS was most definitely one hell of an exciting place to start one’s journey into the realm of metal.    We’re going to ask that you go ahead and lower any “Great Expectations” you may have had for this episode, because only a “fly by the seat of our balls kinda podcast” such as ours would dare to take on something like this.    Get ready for a “sobering moment”, remember that “Iconic” is the word of the episode, find out which Slayer album included “Fluoride Westone”, discover “how many people it takes to make KISS sound good”, and remember that “it’s nothing but 7’s” when you JOIN US for some “Rock and Roll Spiderman”  as we embark on our trip through CHRONICLES II with PART I: the 4th studio album by “the hottest band in the land”, DESTROYER. #317 GUNS N’ ROSES: APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION Album Review
“The look on his face is like a kid on Christmas morning getting everything that he never asked for from Santa…”   July 21,1987 marked the beginning of the GUNS N’ ROSES era of L.A. metal with APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION, the scorching debut album chock full of enough sleaze, swagger, and excess to put the boys in Motley Crue to shame.    If Slayer were the 80’s answer to 70’s Sabbath, then it’s not a stretch to say that G’N’R were the 80’s answer to 70’s Aerosmith, with a loudness that falls right in that “in between” phase of hard rock and heavy metal. Technically, “it’s not metal, but it kind of is…in a way”.   Discover “the worst part about getting older”, realize why overalls always translates to “good barbecue”, hear “the stoner thought of the day” and find out if “girls can tell the difference” when you JOIN US as we soak up some classic late 80’s decadence and debauchery with GUNS N’ ROSES and APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merchand kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can’t be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast   Show Notes: (00:01): “We gonna do shots?” / #trafficcircle #roundabout / “That’s gonna be good barbecue…stereotypes exist for a reason…”/ “Is it #KoreanBBQ?” / “All you gotta do is just change one letter on certain words and you can completely change the meaning of it…”/ “Demons are fat…everybody’s fat in Hell, bro…”/ ***WARNING: #listenerdiscretionisadvised *** / “It’s like a peanut butter and banana sandwich…”/ “It was super appley…” / “The last time I fucked up a butt with an injection…the last time I ruined a butt…”   (06:46): ***WELCOME BACK TO THE METAL NERDERY PODCAST!!!*** / “That’s the shitty thing about getting older…”/ ***GIVE US A CALL AND VOICEMAIL US AT 980-666-8182!!!*** / #PissingPostASMR / #StonerThoughtOfTheDay / #RapNerdery / “I’ll show it to you if you wanna look at it…”/ #PatreonShoutOuts ***JOIN US ON PATREON AT patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast AND GET YOUR #METALNERDERYPODCAST T-SHIRT!!!***    (13:00): #TheDocket METAL NERDERY PODCAST PRESENTS:  GUNS N’ ROSES – APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION / “It was ’87…”/ Where were YOU when you first heard this? #314 – MEGADETH: COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION
“We can’t ever talk about this so let’s talk about not talking about it when we’re talking about it…” Released on July 14th, 1992, COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION, the 5th MEGADETH album (and the 2nd to feature “the classic lineup” of Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson, Marty Friedman, and Nick Menza) would become the follow up to “one of the most perfect thrash albums of all time”, featuring a more streamlined, simplified, straight forward approach which served as a sonic palette cleanser to the progressive thrash complexity of 1990’s masterpiece, Rust In Peace. Simply stated, COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION is complex in its simplicity. Even though this might be the most offensive episode we’ve ever made, we’d like to remind everyone that we’re still all about “rainbows and peaches” even though we’ve emphatically stated for the record that “we’re not gonna talk about it”.  Remember proper cell phone etiquette to avoid being bothersome to others, prepare yourself for “The Average Double-Team”, head on down to Dangol County for some “High Speed Dirt”, and last but not least, find out “how to get out of offending anybody” when you “go pick up some honkies” and JOIN US as we start the clock and begin our analysis of MEGADETH’s COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merchand kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can’t be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast   Show Notes: (00:01): “We’re not gonna talk about it…but you always wanna talk about it…” / “We can’t ever talk about this so let’s talk about not talking about it when we’re talking about it…”/ “Rainbows and peaches, dude…”/ #buttstuff / “It’s more peach-like in flavor…”/ #KoolAidMan / “Is she a #Redskin?” / “Is it the Washington Nationals?” (NOTE: It’s the Commanders.) / #RacistReflections and using your phone in public (where EVERYONE can hear your music, your conversations, etc.) / “So is it racist…?” / “Do you know where #honky comes from?” / “Why don’t we have better slurs?” / #beeroftheepisode / “Let’s go pick up some honkies and go out and do some stuff…” / ***WARNING: #listenerdiscretionisadvised    (07:27): ***WELCOME BACK TO THE METAL NERDERY PODCAST!!!*** / #DreamReflections / “Has anybody caught the new #KingOfTheHill…?” / #RussellsReflectionsNostalgiaEdition / “He LEANS into it…”/ #onmicburp / “King of Hill…”/ #InMemoriam / “There’s some conspiracy…”/ “They’re selling their #voicerights to AI…”/ #DangolCounty / “Dude…the Average Double-team…that’s our new podcast…that’s this side of the table…”/ #TheAverageDoubleteam   (14:44): ***JOIN US on the Socials at #Facebook #Instagram #YouTube and #TikTok at #metalnerderypodcast and EMAIL US at metalnerdery@gmail.com and VOICEMAIL US at 980-666-8182!!!*** / ***PATREON US at patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast *** / #BunkerpoonRequestLine / #PatreonShoutOut / “We’ll do 3 solo episodes…kinda like the solo albums…”   (17:11): #TheDocket METAL NERDERY PODCAST PRESENTS: MEGADETH – COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION / “Can you believe it’s been 33 years!?” / July 14th, 1992 / #wisdomteeth and #drysockets / “I remember I had these tea leaves…”/ “When they pulled it out…it was purple…”/ “Do you hear that?
