Faribault played durng a day featuring boys and girls high school basketball in Byron. The Red Knights extended their 12 point halftime lead and won 71-56. Faribault seniors Breuer Wolff, Ryan Kreager and Brandon Petricka led the scoring for Faribault. BSM tallied 25 points off 22 Falcons turnovers.
The Falcons led most of the game against the Tigers but Stewartville mounted a comeback that gave them a shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Free throw shooting continues to plague Faribault.
The Bombers outscored the Wingers 41-23 in the second half to pull away for a 85-59 win against a Section 1AA opponent. Cannon Falls is 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Section heading into the Holiday break.
A freshman for Red Wing hit a half court shot at the buzzer to end the first half with a 21-17 lead. That momentum continued into the second half of a comfortable victory for the Class 2A 8th ranked Wingers.
The Falcons led most of the first half before Byron tied the game at the half. The Bears held Faribault to 18 second half points in their 54-47 win. Byron had been averaging overe 70 points a game. Free throw shooting was dismal again for the Falcons going 6 of 16 for the game. Byron was 7 of 11.
This Section 1AA game featured some esciting plays from both sides with Pine Island taking a 5 point deficit at the half and turning it into a win. Triton was without the services of their outstanding guard Pierce Petersohn due to his playing in the high school All- Star game at US Bank Stadium Saturday.
The Knights of K-W and Knights of AC/GE had a thrilling contest in Alden, Mn. It was close late even though the final score might not seem like it with AC/GE winning 72-63. They hit their free throws down the stretch. In fact they were 10 for their last 10 at the charity stripe while K-W finished the game 5 of 10 in free throws.
The #10 ranked Class 3A Falcons and #13 rated Raiders clashed in Northfield. The Raiders had a comfortable lead most of the night but Faribault stormed back to make it an exciting finish.
The Knights home opener resulted in a close win over a Clippers team that was in the State Volleyball Tournament. Two underclassmen led the way offensively for K-W.
Jackson County Central dominated the statistics but Goodhue did have a chance to win. The Huskies win their second straight state title denying Goodhue their third state crown. The final score was 20-15 at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
