I Closed a 10 Year Old JCPenney Credit Card

#33: For years, I held onto my JCPenney credit card because I was afraid of what would happen to my credit score if I closed this account.

Entonces que paso? Pues amiga, you'll have to tune in to find out.

See you in the show!

  3. Shop Local: give your neighbors your money! Not the corporations

How To Stop Underearning And Make More Money with Career Coach Carla Santamaria

#22: Are you actually underpaid or do you just not believe that you can make more money?💸

As someone who grew up watching my parents work 2 jobs to make ends meet, I grew up thinking I had to do the same. These unchecked beliefs kept me broke for far too long. Additionally, the fact that I was already breaking cycles - like being the first to graduate college, being the first to fly internationally, being the first to land a corporate job - made it really difficult for me to see that HOLD UP: MORE is still available to me. I don't have to stop at just having it 'better than my parents'. In other words - I don't have to stay broke.

In this episode Cara Santamaria - career growth coach, speaker and host of 'The First Gen Coach' Podcast, breaks down the mindset shifts required to go from dreaming of more money to ACTUALLY making more.

Carla gives us a 3 step roadmap to stop underearning and make more money.

  1. Double your belief
  2. Get CLEAR on what you want
  3. Schedule the time to apply to jobs (or if an entrepreneur, to make those CEO moves!)

Carla did not hold back. Amiga, are you ready to make more money? Tune into this episode and learn how.

I Worked In Tech And Was Made To Feel Like I Could Never Understand Investing. Now I Teach Women How To Do It

#20: Have you ever been made to feel like you couldn't do something? But low key, you knew that you absolutely could?

In this episode, I share with you how the tech bros at my old corporate job are the reason why I built Money for Mujeres.

Episode Highlights:

  • I thought I couldn't do it so I said 'not for me' and gave up on it for 5 years
  • Later I found out I COULD do it, and that it wasn't 'too complicated'
  • How you can invest too with $10 at a time, and then teach everyone you care about how to do it too

I could be angry that I was made to feel incompetent. But, I'm glad because if I hadn't been, I wouldn't have become the 'Retire on Time' teacher. Thank you, tech bros for handing me my life's passion.

This episode is for the person who has variable income and wants to plan ahead for the 'slow' months or no income months.

Save money for slow months in 3 steps:

My Partner Makes 2x More Than Me. Here's How We Split Expenses

#16: Do you and your partner split expenses in an 'equitable' way? Meaning, does the higher income earner pay more?

In this episode, my partner of 2 years and I share how we manage money as a couple including, who pays for what, do we have joint bank accounts, does one pay more for 'fun' stuff and what happens when we have different POVs on spending?

We talk about the shame that can come up when 1 partner makes less than the other and the empathy required to have difficult money conversations.

In the second half of the episode, I throw some rapid fire audience questions at Edward, like:

  1. How did we initiate the conversation around money?
  2. How do we gift give in our relationship?
  3. Do we use non violent communication when talking to each other?
  4. What about pre-nups?

I told Edward to be honest in this interview. And I'm not going to lie.... he took that to heart. (phew)

Why You Aren't Taking Action

#15: Ever wonder why despite REALLY wanting to, and despite making a plan, and telling yourself over and over you'll do something, you just can't seem to make it happen? This episode is for the person who is done shaming themselves about it and who is READY to get to the root of why making a change is so hard. More specifically, it's for the person who is ready to take the action required to make a change.

⭐️⭐️Super Mega Spoiler⭐️⭐️

You aren’t taking action because your subconscious thoughts are overpowering your conscious ones.

Your brain is defaulting to survival patterns that have worked for you so many times before - but this keeps you playing small.

It’s time to explore your subconscious, rewire your habits, and take the action you're meant to.

Tune into this episode to hear:

  1. A case study: How my unresolved experiences led to issues with self trust and visibility and how this led to not making big moves in business.
  2. Learn how to witness and acknowledge YOUR limitations and break free from constrictive patterns that no longer serve you: lessons from Peter Krone aka the mind Architect.
  3. Discern whether you want to live your best but limited life OR whether you are willing to break down your subconscious limitations and allow the abundance that's already yours to flow in.

⭐️⭐️After you finish this episode, Listen to Jasmine Star’s episode with Peter Krone aka the mind architect to REALLY wrangle with your subconscious mind⭐️⭐️

Financial Abuse in Family: Money Red Flags to Look For with Justine De Peralta, Financial Educator and Author

#13: What does financial abuse in families look like?💸

Can my own sibling inflict financial abuse on me? What about a cousin? A distant relative? The answer is absolutely.

  1. In this episode, I went to Reddit to share some real life examples of financial abuse in families. Financial abuse is a spectrum, it can be something small or something that takes 100% of control from an individual.
  2. Then, Justine De Peralta, Author of ‘Girl, Jump: Building a Financial Safety Net to Leave an Abusive Relationship and Reclaim Your Freedom’ and I have a conversation about money red flags in families. We also briefly touch on the financial burden that often is left to the child of an aging parent.
  3. Finally, we discuss how even when our loved ones are healing money traumas of their own, it is not on us to be the solution to their every issue. There are other ways we can help, both empowering them and not inhibiting our personal growth.

💸Make sure you check out Episode 11 to learn the 4 step process of non-violent communication. Justine walked us through having a successful yet difficult money conversations with loved ones.
