Knowledge is all around us. With a few clicks we can find out information on any topic. However, wisdom is different. Wisdom guides us in making the correct decisions and choices at the right time. The book of Proverbs is a guide for all to know what is wise, and how we can apply it to our lives.

In chapter 2 of Jonah, we see our prophet in a terrible situation. Drowning and crying out to God. A great fish swallows him, and the chapter details his prayer and confession. In the darkest of days, do we call out to God in repentance and worship or do we blame Him and turn away?

The body cannot support itself without strength. Strength of muscles, bones, tendons and organs are vital to our survival. In Galatians 6 we are encouraged to use our strength to help those who are in a time of weakness. How does the Law of Christ to love God and love others give us the strength to carry other’s burdens?

Every day our lungs are filling with oxygen rich air. We rarely think about it, but this action keeps us alive and without it, we would perish. In the same way, prayer is vital to our spiritual lives. In Matthew 5, Jesus gives us instruction of how to pray and have a talking relationship with our Father. What is your relationship to prayer? Are you taking deep breaths or holding your breath?

We can do all the right things to take care of our body, but if we do not have proper nutrition, we will not have the power and endurance needed. In the same way, the scriptures are nutrition to our soul, giving us endurance and perseverance to follow the Kingdom of God.

When maintaining our relationship with God, we must keep one thing in mind above all else: Gratitude is the core of a healthy relationship with God. When the Hebrews were wandering in the desert, ingratitude led them to an unnecessary additional forty years before entering their promised land. The key to gratitude is remember who God is, and all He has done.

In the last chapter, the author is going to share last thoughts and short statements as a closing. From loving each other, to holy living and supporting Christian leaders, the final chapter offers us practical ways to live our lives for Christ.

In chapter 11, the “Heroes of Faith” are discussed to provide hope and encouragement to the reader. Chapter 12 begins with looking to them for encouragement, and then brings some themes about our walk with God. Looking at God’s discipline, our relationship with other believers, and our future with God for eternity, the author is bringing important last thoughts as the book is coming to a close.
