Join writer Emily Farris and her mom friends every Tuesday as they get real about motherhood. From diversifying our social circles and managing our mental health to bra shopping after breastfeeding and peeing in private, no topic is off limits. Guests include writers, doctors, and other experts, as well as a handful of mothers who may not have a huge platform but whose voices are equally important as we all try to navigate this "new normal" — whatever the hell that means.

To celebrate (but mostly to take a breather after a rough week and before next week's big episode), Emily recorded from her living room floor and responded to listener voicemails about the things they said they’d never do as a parent, but totally ended up doing once they had kids.

This week Emily is joined by Kelly Glass, Executive Editor of Black Parenting at Parents.com. Kelly admits that her never-ending divorce made some parts of lockdown easier and shares how she survived the summer of 2020 with two Black sons. Then Emily and Kelly talk skincare, sleeping bras, and why the media needs to do a better job of centering non-white families — something Kelly is tackling with her soon-to-launch vertical at Parents. Before they part ways, Kelly offers some sound advice to white parents who are afraid to talk about race.

This week, Emily talks with her old friend, The Rev. Ann Kansfield, whose book, "Be the Brave One: Living Your Spiritual Values Out Loud" is out December 14. Ann is a self-described "hyper extrovert" and is the first female and first openly gay FDNY chaplain. She was also the very first New York Times New Yorker of the year. Emily and Ann discuss parenting with ADHD, apologizing after a fight, and the surprising place Ann put a refrigerator during lockdown. Ann also gives Emily some words of encouragement for what is sure to be a very busy 2022 (also, how the hell is it almost 2022?!).

Meet Sascha Guinn Anderson, a communications consultant and Indigenous mother of three in Santa Fe, NM. Emily and Sascha talk about the division of labor now that their husbands have experienced being stay-at-home dads, Sascha’s successful run for school board, and how difficult it is to find bras for their post-breastfeeding boobs. Sascha shares her thoughts on Thanksgiving (which happens to be Emily’s all-time favorite holiday) and together, they come up with an easy way for parents to help combat stereotypes about Indigenous people at home and at school.

For the second installment of a two-part series on momfluencers, Emily is joined by her friend, Brittany Null — a single mom of three who makes a living posting lifestyle and family content, but doesn’t consider herself a momfluencer. Emily and Britt talk about Britt’s very public divorce, the pressure to present as okay during lockdown, and paying her kids for sponsored posts. After the break, they get into boob jobs and how being a Black mom on the Internet sometimes feels like being a Black mom at the playground. Oh, and Emily goes on a mini-rant about mommywine.

For the second episode, host Emily Farris interviews New Yorker cartoonist Emily Flake. Emily and Emily consider each other friends from the Internet — but this is their first time interacting in real life (well, as IRL as you can be when you’re halfway across the country from each other). They discuss the challenges of trying to be creative when your brain feels like it won’t work anymore, they bond over their shared fantasy of sneaking away from their families to write for a few weeks, and Emily (Farris) tells the story of her Internet-micro-famous inner-thigh bruise.
