The Stanwood Hotel & Saloon, one of the oldest buildings in town, has stood witness to over a century of history—lumbermen, loggers, travelers, and patrons have all passed through its doors. But beyond its rich past, the hotel has gained a reputation for the unexplained. Guests and staff have reported footsteps, whispers, and mysterious apparitions, including a flirtatious female spirit, a watchful madam named Margret, a mischievous young man named Carl, the tragic Charlie Gibbons, and the elegant Lily. Paranormal investigations, including detailed EVP and EMF sessions by the PIHA Grey Team, have captured voices, misty figures, and unexplained activity throughout the building. This episode delves into the Stanwood Hotel’s layered history, its hauntings, and the lingering spirits that continue to make their presence known, offering a compelling glimpse into the paranormal heart of Stanwood, Washington.

In 1922, on a quiet farm hidden behind a Bavarian village, six people were murdered with a weapon from their own barn… and the killer didn’t leave.
Footsteps in the attic. A missing key. A Munich newspaper no one subscribed to.
And a family history darker than anyone wanted to admit.
This one gets under your skin.
Join us as we step inside the walls of Hinterkaifeck — the farm where a century-old secret still refuses to stay buried.

In 1937, a cafeteria menu sparked one of the strangest food fights in American history.
Idaho and Maine both claimed to grow the best potatoes — and when the U.S. House dining room served one state’s spuds over the other, pride, politics, and produce all went head-to-head.
It’s petty. It’s proud. It’s perfectly Idaho.

Once upon a time on the Oregon Coast, there was a place where steam trains chugged through the mist and log flumes splashed into a fairytale. Pixieland was meant to be Oregon’s Disneyland — a dream built on tidewater and hope. But when the rains came and the crowds faded, the pixies disappeared back into the fog.
Listen to Gone with the tides: The rise and fall of Pixieland — a story of ambition, imagination, and the amusement park the sea reclaimed.

In April 1955, Portland’s iconic Meier & Frank department store became the scene of a shocking bombing and extortion plot. A blind chemist, Clarence William Peddicord, detonated a bomb in the store and demanded $50,000 to prevent a second explosion. His sister-in-law, Joyce Keller, was initially accused of aiding him but was ultimately acquitted. The daring scheme, intricate ransom instructions, and dramatic investigation captured national attention, highlighting both the audacity of the crime and the resilience of the city.

In 1948, Idaho faced a beaver problem: too many furry engineers were wreaking havoc in lowland towns. Enter Elmo Heter and his genius (and slightly crazy) solution: parachute 76 beavers into the remote wilderness. With WWII parachutes, specially designed crates, and a very patient test beaver named Geronimo, the animals were airlifted to the Chamberlain Basin, where they thrived. This zany experiment became an Idaho icon, showcasing creativity in wildlife management and leaving a lasting legacy on the ecosystem—and our imaginations.

On a cold Sunday in 1958, the Martin family went for a drive into the Columbia River Gorge and vanished without a trace.
No skid marks. No car. Just silence.
Months later, two bodies surfaced. The rest of the family—and their station wagon—were gone.
Now, 66 years later, a discovery beneath the river’s surface may finally bring answers.

Long before pumpkins lit American porches, eerie turnips glowed across Irish hillsides, carved to ward off spirits during Samhain and inspired by the legend of Stingy Jack, the trickster doomed to wander the Earth with a single ember from Hell. As Irish immigrants brought the tradition to America, they found the pumpkin—larger, softer, and perfectly suited for carving—and the Jack-O’-Lantern was reborn. Over centuries, this symbol of fear transformed into one of community, harvest, and Halloween cheer, its flickering light carrying echoes of ancient superstition beneath its modern smile. Even today, every glowing pumpkin honors the ghostly traveler whose cursed light first shone across the Irish bogs.

Step inside Manresa Castle in Port Townsend, Washington—a place where history and hauntings blur together. Built in 1892 by Charles Eisenbeis, the town’s first mayor, the castle has lived many lives: a grand family home, a Jesuit monastery, and now a hotel. Along the way, it has gathered stories of lingering spirits: a grieving woman said to have leapt from Room 306, a monk whose footsteps echo in the attic above Room 302, and even playful presences tugging at shoes or turning glasses upside down. Blending Port Townsend’s colorful boomtown past with chilling firsthand encounters, this episode wanders through foggy streets, creaking corridors, and candlelit legends to ask—who still calls the castle home when the lights go out?Manresa Castle:

In this episode, we explore some of the Pacific Northwest’s smallest and most remarkable landmarks. From Portland’s Mill Ends Park—the world’s smallest park, famously home to a colony of leprechauns—to Washington’s Ranald MacDonald’s Grave State Park Heritage Site, a humble plot of land honoring the first English teacher in Japan, and Oregon’s Cape Meares Lighthouse, the shortest lighthouse on the Oregon coast, yet rich in history and innovation.
Though these sites may be small in size, each carries a deep cultural, historical, or whimsical significance. Join us as we uncover the stories behind these tiny spaces, the people who shaped them, and the ways they continue to capture the imagination and pride of the Pacific Northwest.

NEW SERIES LAUNCH!!
We’re opening the first case in our new monthly series, The Infamous Files — stories that linger, mysteries that refuse to be solved, and cases that continue to haunt.
Our first file: the disappearance of Bryce Laspisa.
In August 2013, 19-year-old Bryce set out to drive home to his parents in Southern California. What should have been a seven-hour trip turned into a twenty-hour odyssey of strange phone calls, roadside stops, a wrecked SUV near Castaic Lake…and then nothing.
More than a decade later, Bryce has never been found. His case remains one of the most unsettling mysteries of the West Coast.
Listen now everywhere you stream podcasts!
Follow along as we open The Infamous Files once a month, each time diving into a case that refuses to rest.

Helena, Montana may call itself the Queen City of the Rockies… but behind the marble banks and gold-rush mansions, another empire was thriving. A world of cribs and parlor houses, velvet curtains, and infamous women like Chicago Joe, Crazy Belle, and Big Dorothy.
For more than a century, Helena’s red-light district pulsed just a block away from respectability — fueled by miners, politicians, and secrets too scandalous for daylight. There were fortunes, feuds, masquerade balls… and murders the city never solved.
Step back in time with us as we pull back the velvet curtain on Helena’s hidden past. This one is haunting, scandalous, and unforgettable.

In early 2002, Oregon City was rocked by the disappearances of two young friends, Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis. As fear gripped the community, investigators searched desperately for answers, never realizing that the key to the mystery stood right at the edge of the girls’ apartment complex. This is a story of betrayal, tragedy, and justice delayed but not denied.Episode Sources:

This week we dive into one of the Pacific Northwest’s darkest stories — the tale of Dr. Linda Hazzard, the so-called “Starvation Doctor.”
From her rise as a self-styled healer to the horrors of Starvation Heights in Olalla, WA, we follow the patients who suffered under her deadly cure, the shocking death of Claire Williamson, the role of E.R. Butterworth’s mortuary, and the sensational trial that exposed it all.
It’s a chilling blend of history, true crime, and ghost story — and a reminder of how desperation can be exploited in the name of healing.
