Ep 35 Halloween- Houses of Horror

On this Halloween episode, we hear about the paranormal activity that has been witnessed around houses that ended up with horrific names; those names being The Hangman’s House and The Murder House.

Naming houses is usually a reflection of those who lived in the properties or where the properties were located. In rural areas you could hear a house name like The Pines, as the house was built by where Pine trees stood or if the property was rather grand, it would benamed something as simple as Redwood Hall, so this would let you know it was a grand and large property.

But when you come across houses calledThe Hangman’s House and The Murder House, it can lead you down to some very dark history of those buildings.

Join me as I share the myths, hauntings and the dark wicked crimes behind the Hangman’s House and the Murder House.

The Crumbles Ghosts & Murders- Episode 33

When researching accounts of ghostly sightings, I look at the area in which the sightings happened, to see if, perhaps, there’s some correlation between a historic eventand the entities. And, in this case, it was revealed that 2 horrendous murders happened in an area of a popular holiday seaside town of Eastbourne. This is the dark history that could be behind the strange ghostly figures on the beach.

Supernatural Somerset- Episode 32

We'll hear about the hauntings and weirdness at Dunster Castle and about the bedroom ghosts of a historic manor house, near to the county town of Taunton.

Somerset is a southwest county in England and has a range of landscapes; from the Somerset levels, which is dotted with isolated hills, known as isles, the most famous being Glastonbury Tor. The flat wetlands, the rugged hills, tothe dramatic coastline, Somerset has had a varied and interesting history, including  those who once lived here and helped to shape the county that you see today. Maybe those who did once live here, do not want to leave after they’ve died, so hang around areas and buildings that wereprevalent in their lives. If these ghostly experiences that I will share with you are to be believed, Somerset is a very spooky county indeed.

The Folk of the Fairy Realm -Ep 31

This episode is called The Folk of the Fairy Realm and I will share 2 fascinating accounts of those who met with creatures from this realm in the county of Gloucestershire.

Gloucestershire is wrapped in folklore, myths and legends, from the rolling hills of theCotswolds, the whispering trees of the Forest of Dean to the weaving River Severn, tales of fairy folk are many.

There are even some places in Gloucestershire, named after the fairy folk. Puck comes fromOld English and means ‘goblin’, so places with ‘puck’ in the name always refer to places where goblins are found.  Puck Pit Lane in Winchcombe, means ‘goblin pit’ and there is an old quarry along the lane.  Many of theseplaces are close to old quarries and this is because people thought that goblins lived underground and cracks in rock faces and caves in quarries were how they came up above ground.  The famous author J R R Tolkien probably knew about this, and it is conceivable that he heard about it while in Gloucestershire.

From the Goblins who are said to guard hidden tunnels with treasure and who are cunning indeterring humans away from these tunnels, to those fairy folk who are helpful to humans in their hour of need. These are just 2 intriguing encounters that I’ll share with you on this episode and that happened in the ancient county of Gloucestershire.

The Witches & Wizards of Winchcombe - Episode 29

This episode is called the Witches & Wizards of Winchcombe and the experiences I will share with you, come from the book 'Weird and Wicked in Winchcombe' by Anne Crow, which can be purchased from *The Winchcombe Museum.

Winchcombe is a pretty Cotswold town in Gloucestershire and has a rich history, it has connections to Anglo-Saxon royalty, the rise and fall of the wool trade, and the dissolution of the Abbey all paint a picture of a town that has seen both prosperity and hardship. Today, it's a charming destination with a strong sense of heritage.’

This Cotswold town is steeped in stories of magic and mystery. Hundreds of years ago, Winchcombe was home to witches and wizards-cunning folk who were called upon for healing, protection, and magic.

Episode 28- Haunted Pubs & Inns

Haunted Pubs & Inns- Episode 28

The spooky experiences that I will share from you, come from the books, UK Haunted Hospitality, Volumes 1 and 2 by Dr Paul Lee. Dr Paul Lee kindly shared these experiences from these books with me for this podcast episode, so I highly recommend checking out his books here on Amazon –

Pubs and inns in the UK have their roots from when the Romans first introduced the selling wine and food to soldiers and travellers. So with hundreds of years of pubs and inns being frequented, some used as places for inquests into crimes, such as murder, then it’s no surprise that many of these establishments are said to be haunted.

The Ghosts of Nether Lypiatt Manor- Episode 27

Do houses and objects possess the ability to replay events from the past? And do those whose lives were prematurely ended, play out their revenge in present day life? Humanity has always weaved stories from the threads of history, especially for those who happened upon harsh treatments from others. These stories may help us learn from past happenings and make us think about how we would respond in similar circumstances.

Are ghosts seeking revenge a thing of reality or are they a way of giving the victim some sort of justice? I’ll leave that for you to decide.

Church Hauntings at Christmas Time- Episode 26

Christmas happens in the dark month of December and with daylight hours being few, the darkness is illuminated with Christmas lights to bring about a sense of comfort and celebration. In those dark corners, where the lights can’t reach, it’s easy to think that ghost’s dwell there, so it’s no surprise that many ghostly spectres are seen around Christmastide.

For this Christmas episode, I’ll share 2 of those spooky Yuletide experiences. These all come from the book Ghosts at Christmas by Darren W Ritson, which I highly recommend getting yourself a copy.

Gloucestershire's Ghost House- Episode 25

This episode is called Gloucestershire’s Ghost House, and it was a piece I researched and wrote for the website Spooky Isles.

There are areas in the county of Gloucestershire that are quite beautiful; some wooded, some open landscapes, mined quarries, lots of sweeping hills and meandering waterways, all which have played their part in how the county has evolved.

Part of that landscape are the ghosts that haunt the areas and the houses of those who have made Gloucestershire their home.

Do those, who once lived here, come back from the dead and haunt the areas that they loved so much?

The Poltergeist of Byron Street- Episode 24

This Halloween episode is called The Poltergeist of Byron Street and it’s a lesser talked about historic haunting.

This case happened in the Cheshire town of Runcorn,  in the early 1950’s and it had many witnesses, lots of interventions by different groups and the activity was also witnessed at other addresses.  The activity was to last for around 12 weeks.

All the information about this case has come from reports that the local newspapers published, with some of the reporters, who remained unnamed, experiencing some of the poltergeist activities and events and many interviews with those who were to experience these highly unusual events…….

Episode 23- The Somerset Ghost

The Somerset Ghost

I take a look at how this photograph came about. It includes 2 well known supernatural investigators and authors of the time, Elliot O’Donnell and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The back story is about one particular young man, who, it seems, wanted interactions with Elliot O’Donnell and went ahead and faked the Somerset Ghost photo in order to do that. But it wasn’t until many years later when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was to include the photo as a genuine ghost photo in one of his talks, that the man took responsibility for the faked photo……

For the Spooky Sunday section on my website, I look to find photos that have strange spooky figures that were not seen at the time of the photo being taken and that cannot be easily explained.

Sometimes, I hear about the dark history of the area where the photo was taken and it makes me wonder if those dark deeds have anything to do with the strange unknown figure, innocently captured on a photograph. This is one of those cases.

Poltergeists- Episode 20

This episode is about Poltergeists, and I will share 3 poltergeist accounts, of which 2 happened on the same housing estate and the third that happened in Gloucestershire.

Poltergeist is said to be a German word, which, when translated to English, means “Noisy Ghost”. Poltergeist cases can stop as suddenly as they start and can be aggressive, with items being thrown, slammed, or moved, some cases involve disembodied voices. I’ve even heard about some cases, where the poltergeist actions can be helpful. Whether this activity is caused by the unconscious mind of a human, or the ghosts of the dead, or even by some other, yet unknown factor, these cases are so very intriguing.
