In this episode, we’re chatting with Claire Harvey, Editorial Director at The Australian and host of The Front podcast, to look ahead at what’s on the political and news radar for 2026. We dive into the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's assassination and how it’s shaping US political discourse. Locally, we discuss the revelations regarding Iran’s IRGC activity in Australia, the response to the Bondi terror attack, and the social media ban. Plus, we look at upcoming state elections in South Australia and Victoria, and whether Barnaby Joyce’s move to One Nation could energise the populist right.

Australia's foremost cybersecurity expert, he was the former National Cyber Security Adviser and Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Cyber Security, served as the Australian Government’s inaugural eSafety Commissioner, and now runs the world-leading cybersecurity company, Cyber CX.

When Leigh Sales, one of our earliest supporters, said yes to joining us on Newsmakers—it was a big moment for us. With so much to ask, we dive into everything from her time as a foreign correspondent and anchoring 7.30 to her writing on journalism, research into grief and fear, and her thoughts on news fatigue. Plus, we chat about her side hustle, Chat 10 Looks 3, which has grown into a community of tens of thousands.
Leigh shares her interview approach, dream guests, and even a few celebrity stories. Whether you’re into news, journalism, or just curious, there’s something here for everyone.

Every weeknight Sarah Ferguson pulls together 30mins of news and current affairs, interviewing everyone from Pat Cummins to the Prime Minister. She’s also known for her hard-hitting investigative work— like The Killing Season on the Rudd-Gillard years or her award-winning exposé on live cattle exports, which led to a major policy shift.
We talk about how her upbringing shaped her, the ways journalism and media are changing, and the hardest kind of interview to pull off. She shares what she thinks the most overlooked news story is, and in a time where there are lots of big things happening in global affairs, the answer might surprise you…

Not many Aussie authors have made a bigger impact on the book world over the past decade than Trent Dalton. In this chat, the Brisbane-born journo-turned-novelist reflects on surviving the '90s newsroom culture, why he’s drawn to darkness in storytelling, and the incredible success he has had. He opens up about process, ambition, failure - and why he’s only ever watched Boy Swallows Universe once....

The coverage of the Bondi terror attacks has been wall to wall across every new outlet and across social media - it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed by it. And while nothing will make sense of it, we thought the most useful thing for us to do this week is to round up the big themes and debates to be aware of - gun laws, intelligence failures, and the rise of antisemitism. No other news stories this week, but we’ll give you some of our reading and recipe recommendations, as you head into your summer break.

The social media ban for under-16s was everywhere this week, so we take stock of how that’s going, and cover the international reactions and responses from big tech. Then we unpack the controversy surrounding Communications Minister Anika Wells’ travel expenses. It’s the debut of Jodie’s ‘crime corner’, with major updates on the Greg Lynn and Toyah Cordingley cases, and we explain why a trip to the US will soon require handing over your social media history.

We're starting this week with an around-the-grounds look at international conflicts. There's a fair bit happening with the Russia-Ukraine peace talks, escalating tensions with US and Venezuela, and we go through the latest from Gaza. Then we cover the update on the search for flight MH370, which is set to resume, Tasmania's AFL stadium finally being approved, and the PM's low-key wedding at The Lodge.

There were 2 big stories out of the last sitting week of federal parliament for the year - the Albanese Government’s environmental law reforms passed with support from the Greens, and Barnaby Joyce dumped the Nationals. There's also a bit to get across internationally - the tragic fires in Hong Kong, progress on a Russia-Ukraine peace deal, and Japan and China are at odds over Taiwan. And there was some incredibly good news on the fight against cervical cancer that you might have missed.

Getting you across the week in news - it was a big week in federal politics, starting with Australia ceding the bid to host COP31 (the annual global UN meeting) to Türkiye, and a hospital funding brawl between state and federal governments. Then we hop around state to state to cover off the biggest news stories from around the country. A big one is what's known as the 'killing season' in politics. We’re heading into ‘silly season’, but it’s ‘killing season’ for politicians, with leadership changes in both NSW and Victorian oppositions this week.

Getting you ready for the week ahead in news, we take a look at 3 big things to watch out for. This week, climate policy will be front and centre as world leaders gather in Brazil for COP30. Then we get you across why the visit of a Syrian leader to the White House is so significant.
And if you haven’t listened to the Weekly Wrap yet, just go one episode back and, coupled with this podcast, you’ll be caught up and ready to tackle the week ahead.
