#8: Why Does My Perseverance Matter?
Episode Show Notes Perseverance is more than pushing through hard seasons—it's the sacred ground where God shapes character, strengthens faith, and writes a deeper story than comfort ever could. In this episode of the NextGen Matters Podcast, Rich Brown closes out the opening series, Why It Matters, by exploring why perseverance is essential for ministry leaders and followers of Christ. We'll define perseverance, trace its biblical roots, and look at how God uses it to transform both leaders and the people they serve. You'll hear powerful examples from Scripture—Joseph, Moses, Hannah, David, Nehemiah, Job, Paul, and Jesus—that reveal how endurance through trials becomes testimony. Together, we'll uncover practical ways to guard against losing perseverance: staying rooted in God's Word, cultivating rhythms of rest, surrounding yourself with encouragers, remembering your calling, celebrating small victories, and fixing your eyes on Jesus. Finally, we'll reflect on the rewards perseverance brings—deeper character, enduring hope, strengthened faith, credibility in ministry, compassion for others, a godly legacy, and eternal reward. This episode is an invitation to see perseverance not as a burden, but as a gift. Because your perseverance matters—for your story, your ministry, and the gospel itself. #7: Why Does My Integrity Matter?
Episode Show Notes In this episode of NextGen Matters, Rich Brown explores one of the most vital yet often overlooked qualities of leadership: integrity. As part seven of the eight-part Why It Matters series, Rich defines integrity, contrasts cultural and biblical views, and explains why integrity is foundational for leaders who want to honor Christ, build trust, and leave a lasting legacy. Drawing from the lives of Joseph and Daniel, Rich unpacks how biblical integrity is tested, builds trust, and points people to God. #6: Why Does My Theology Matter?
Does My Theology Really Matter? If you get this wrong, you are not only damaging yourself, but those you are leading. Episode Show Notes In this episode, Rich Brown challenges ministry leaders to move beyond the external flash of programming and recenter their ministries on the core: theology. Using memorable metaphors, biblical teaching, and decades of ministry experience, Rich unpacks why theology matters for leaders and students, and how centering theological depth can transform ministry clarity, confidence, and consistency. You will understand the distinction between theology and doctrine. illustrated with various metaphors that theology is the big framework while doctrine is the specific teaching that flows from it. Drawing from many Scriptural references, Rich shows how Jesus, the apostles, and the early church centered their ministry on teaching and doctrine, and why this remains essential today. You'll hear: * How Jesus taught all ten major doctrines and rooted the Great Commission in teaching. * Why the early church was born through a doctrinal sermon and devoted itself to the apostles' teaching. * Paul's letters emphasize being rooted in the Word for growth, strength, and fruit. * Based on 2 Timothy 3:16, the four-part purpose of Scripture, starting with doctrine as "what is right," reproof as "what is not right," correction as "how to get right," and instruction in righteousness as "how to stay right." Biblical living comes from biblical teaching. * Why discernment requires filtering every teaching through Scripture. By the end, you'll see that theology isn't ivory-tower theory—it's the foundation that equips leaders, sustains discipleship, and anchors the next generation in truth. #5: Why Does My Devotional Time Matter?
Episode Show Notes In this episode of NextGen Matters, Rich Brown invites ministry leaders to step beyond being busy for Jesus and focusing on the need for the life-giving rhythm of daily time in God's Word. Drawing from research, personal stories, and biblical principles, Rich highlights why devotional consistency is not optional—it's essential for each NextGen leader's ministry and, more important, your own life. You'll hear about various biblical leaders who prioritized their personal intake of God's Word. Rich also speaks into three approached to his quiet time: delight, diet, and discipline, for when you delight in God's Word, have a diet of daily Scriptural intake, and discipline yourself, you don't just survive ministry—you thrive as a son or daughter of God. You are prepared to face temptations, difficult seasons, and the daily battle of pursing godliness. And you will grow deeper in your love for Jesus as you sit as His feet and listen to your Shepherd's voice. Your devotional time matters because it anchors your soul, fuels your leadership, and sets an example for the next generation. Without it, ministry becomes mechanical. With it, ministry becomes life giving and invigorating. Resources Mentioned • Barna Group – https://www.barna.com/ • The Daily Bible [https://a.co/d/1QyCmly] (F. #4: Why Does My Struggle Matter?
In Episode 4 of the NextGen Matters podcast, Why Does My Struggle Matter, Rich Brown speaks directly to ministry leaders about the reality of struggle and why it carries eternal significance. Whether it's late nights after youth group, personal hardships like grief or financial strain, or the quiet ache of burnout and imposter syndrome, struggle is part of both life and ministry. Rich shares from his own early days as a young youth minister, reminding listeners that even in seasons of pressure, God's faithfulness is present. Grounded in Scripture, he highlights how struggles come from external attacks, internal doubts, burnout, failed efforts, and the brokenness of the world—but they are never wasted. Struggle can refine us, deepen our dependence on God, and shape us into Christlike leaders who model resilience and authenticity for the next generation. Your struggle matters because it is formative—building character and humility—and transformative, leaving a legacy of faith for those you shepherd. In God's hands, even the hardest battles become seeds of hope.
