Hey Y'all,
One of the hosts on a different pod I co-host sat down with me to discuss songwriting, my latest album, and the release show I recently performed at for Whiskey Clear in January.
Hope you all will enjoy this episode. :)
Love,
Jules
Hey Y'all! I'm back again with a long episode about the new album, detailing the poetry, stories, and meaning behind the songs, along with snarky remarks unpalatable for the other project channels. If you have not already, I'd be both honored and delighted if you checked out the new album at the link below:
Listen Here: Jules Taylor - Whiskey Clear
Also, I had said at the top of the episode that I would play back the album in its entirety, but let's be real here - that would make this episode too long and I think listeners would prefer to keep the deliberate listening of music and podcasts separate. Like you come to me for chats and not to play music but I would also like to give you the option to take in my music.
Hey Y'all,
I am still on hiatus here on this platform, but I wanted to take a moment and introduce a different podcast that I am a co-host on. This is a really special project I was invited to spearhead with my friends Jimmy Willden (Director, Songwriter, Film Composer) and Garrett Wieland (Songwriter and Old West Fanatic). We are about 11 episodes in at this point, and I am finding that I fit in a lot of philosophical concepts there as they relate to songwriting. This is such a joy for me to take part in, and since there was the tiniest bit of overlap, I've decided to give y'all a taste here in hopes some of you will make it over to the Corpus Christi Songwriter Podcast Feed.
And! I have a new album out, available now at all streaming links. Click here to listen to Whiskey Clear
New episodes coming in a little while. See y'all soon.

Dr. Richard Barbrook is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Westminster. He is the author of Media Freedom (Pluto, 1995) and Imaginary Futures (Pluto, 2007). His other important writings include The Hi-Tech Gift Economy, Cyber-communism, The Regulation of Liberty and The Class of the New, and today with Jules he is discussing his prophetic 1995 essay "The Californian Ideology".
In the essay, Dr. Barbrook and Andy Cameron argue that the rise of networking technologies in Silicon Valley in the 90s was linked to American neoliberalism and a paradoxical hybridization of beliefs from the political left and right in the form of hopeful technological determinism. This new amalgamated ideology combined the ideas of Marshall McLuhan with elements of radical individualism, libertarianism, and neoliberal economics, using publications like Wired Magazine to promulgate their ideas. This ideology mixed New Left and New Right beliefs together based on their shared interest in anti-statism, the counterculture of the 1960s, and techno-utopianism.
The original promise of the Californian Ideology was that computers would liberate us from all the old forms of political control, and we would become Randian heroes, in control of our own destinies. Instead, today, we feel the opposite—that we are helpless components in a global system—a system that is controlled by a rigid logic that we are powerless to challenge or change.

In part 2 of our ongoing series about Aleksandr Dugin, Jules Taylor sits down to speak with Wahid Azal, author of the 2016 Counterpunch article entitled "Dugin's Occult Fascism and the Hijacking of Left Anti-Imperialism and Muslim Anti-Salafism".
Wahid wrote this article when he realized that Duginists were actively recruiting leftists and anti-imperialists, as well as anti-Salafist Shiʿi and Sunni Muslims. This conversation was eye-opening on numerous levels, but I want to be cautious here and remind folks that being an anti-fascist isn't not dangerous. Fascists, in general, are dangerous people, with a ravenous ideology who are not to be trifled with.
Wahid currently lives in Australia, and he relocated there from Berlin for his safety and the safety of his daughter after his wife mysteriously passed away. This conversation is about more than Dugin. It's about being anti-fascist and calling it out when you see it and how there is a very real cost to doing that. It's also about the way shades of far-right ideology can muddy the water and how we lose comrades.
My heart goes out to Wahid and his daughter, as it takes an incredible amount of bravery to keep sounding the alarm on all of this.

With the recent invasion of Ukraine, it’s become clear that Putinism and Duginism have converged. Who is Aleksandr Dugin? And how is he relevant to Russia’s attempted invasion?
Dugin is rumored to have the ear of Vladimir Putin, to be his advisor, and since Russia has a history of autocratic rulers being advised by mystical characters with long hair and unkempt facial hair, there is a tendency of folks dismissing this all together. But you know it makes sense, since Dugin is a prominent member of the largest political party in Russia and has acted as an advisor to the state duma in the past.
In 1997, Aleksandr Dugin publishes a book called "The foundations of geopolitics: the geopolitical future of Russia". The cover of the book in at least one edition has an outline of the continents of Europe and Asia, with the symbol of 8 arrows, 4 of which point in the cardinal directions. The other arrows point in the directions of southwest, southeast, northwest, and northeast, and the symbolism of the Eurasian continent behind the outward expanding arrows leaves no question the intention of this book: this is a manifesto for Russian expansion.

Cam Scott is a poet, musician, and local organizer from Winnipeg, and he's on the show to speak to us about an article he's written. We're talking about the 'freedom convoy' or 'trucker convoy' or whatever you'd like to call it. This conversation is about the difference between populist movements and peoples' movements, and why the left should be cautious when considering the use of populist politics, and why the convoy is not a workers' movement.
