We lost the legendary actor Val Kilmer this year. He was a tremendous talent that quite frankly, never got his "just due". He was never nominated for a Golden Globe or an Oscar. It's a shame. Jerome and Brian decided to honor his legacy on his birthday, December 31st. First they took a look at his comedic/musician side with the Zucker Brother's film "Top Secret" from 1984. It's kind of the middle child of "Airplane!" and "Naked Gun". Then they take a look at one of his most iconic/quotable roles as Doc Holliday in "Tombstone" from 1993. A lot of people feel he was robbed of a nomination for it. They also talk about his legacy and other films of his they enjoyed over the years. Rest in Peace Val Kilmer, 1959-2025.

Carol from 2015 is highly regarded amongst critics and film buffs. It's on a lot of lists celebrating the best films of the 2010's. Jerome is revisiting the movie while Brian is watching it for the first time. It's a queer romance set in the background of the Christmas season of 1953. Cate Blanchett is at the top of her game and Rooney Mara matches her. Both praise the film but question some of it's technical elements and whether or not it's actually a Christmas movie. Is it "new canon" worthy?

Brian and Jerome both saw "The Holdovers" in 2023 during it's initial release. Alexander Payne can be a mixed bag but when he directs the right actors, great memorable performances happen. Once again working Paul Giamatti, Payne brings back the early 1970's feels and Giamatti looks like the perfect school teacher from that era. It's a story of three unrelated people coming together during the holiday season. But it's deeply more than that.

The search for "new Christmas canon" continues with a film that both Jerome and Brian saw in theaters when it was released in 2022. Starring David Harbour, "Violent Night" has a very interesting premise with excellent fight scenes and plenty of gore in the third act. The plot and characters don't all click together but the performances are solid. Brian is obsessed with the lore of the Santa Clause character in the film as it's implied that he was once a Viking warrior. They also complain about the lighting in the film, or is it a common movie problem?

It's Christmas season. Jerome and Brian want to usher in the holiday season with some fresh Christmas content or a possible "new cannon" if you will. They're digging past the Die Hards, Christmas Story's and Christmas Vacations and looking into possible new Holiday watch list traditions. They start with the 2019 animated Netflix film Klaus, which both agree is a fun watch as well as revisit the famous Bret Hart vs. Davey Boy Smith WWF Title match from In Your House 5. It's the thirty year anniversary of the match.

Jerome and Brian chose to end "Woovember" on a positive note. Even though it's an American John Woo effort, "Face/Off" from 1997 is by far his best work from the United States. Nicolas Cage is always willing to go places with his performances and he for sure steals the show here. John Travolta is having fun in his performance and even though he's not at the level of Cage in this film, he still delivers the melodrama that a film like this needs. This film was a hit at the time and deservingly so. It's a classic.

"Woovember" rolls on with John Woo's first American film, "Hard Target" from 1993. Jean Claude Van Damme is the star which is good for the box office but a hinderance on the film as a whole. Even though Van Damme doesn't totally nail the role, Lance Henriksen easily makes up for it. Jerome and Brian both love the last thirty minutes of the film, but that's about it.

"Woovember" continues with 1992's "Hard Boiled". It's top-tier John Woo. Brian and Jerome highly praised "The Killer" and this film is just as good if not better in some ways. Tony Leung and Chow Yun Fat give tremendous performances but beyond that is the crazy, well timed and choreographed actions scenes throughout. Jerome thinks this is the GOAT Action Movie of All Time. It's quite the praise.

It's "Woovember" as Jerome and Brian dedicate the entire month to John Woo films. As it's The Right Match, it's been paired with Ric Flair vs. Terry Funk in a the famous I-Quit match that took place at Clash of the Champions 9 in November of 1989. There are many connections. Woo has been inspired by directors such as Sergio Leone (who we covered in September) and even uses the harmonica as a cinematic device the same way Leone does. Funk of course comes out the "Harmonica" theme from Once Upon a Time in the West. So it really all comes full circle.

With the "Running Man" remake coming out soon, Jerome and Brian decided it was fitting to review one of their favorite comedy horror films of all time, "Shaun of the Dead" (2004). When the movie first came out, no one was familiar with Edgar Wright unless you watched the BBC channel. Because of the success of this film, he was able to complete his "Cornetto Trilogy" after this. This film is hilarious, well written and even emotional at the end.

Jerome and Brian's "horror-o-thon" continues with quite possibly one of the best remakes of all time. And no, they already reviewed "The Thing (1982)". It's the "The Blob" from 1988. It caught both hosts by surprise and they kind of wish they discovered this when they we're younger. It's a B-Movie, but it's treated with much seriousness and effort to create a new twist on the original Blob story. It's gory, turns tropes on their ears and even has a child kill. It's awesome.

This week Jerome and Brian take a look at two Hammer Horror films. One is another classic pairing/face-off between Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing in the The Mummy (1959). The writing and editing is not that good, but the colors and performances are worth watching for. The second film is another remake of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde (1971). The twist this time is that that the obsessive doctor can now change into a woman. It's ripe for an A24 remake with hip, young actors to modernize it. The film is good in it's own right.

It's Halloween season and Brian is in charge of the festivities. To start off, Brian and Jerome will journey back to 2003 when maybe even then this film came out too late. It's Freddy vs. Jason (2003) and coincidently AMC Channel just had a whole weekend dedicated to both iconic franchises. It's a mixed bag, but boy once the horror legends start fighting, the film gets fun. Brian paired it with Stan Hansen vs. Big Van Vader from NJPW Super Fight 1990. It's the infamous match where Vader got his eye popped out. It's brutal. It's gruesome. Now you can see why Brian paired the two together.

Jerome and Brian are back on their superhero movie bullshit. They take a look at the four superhero movies released this year (Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, Superman and Fantastic Four First Steps) and provide their thoughts. Brian questions whether online grifters know what their talking about when it comes to box office expectations. Jerome really dislikes Brave New World but feels Superman is the best Superman since the original. Lots of thoughts. Different perspectives.

"Sergio September" concludes with an all time classic film, "Once Upon a Time in The West" from 1968. Featuring iconic performances from Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda, Jason Robards and the now recently deceased Claudia Cardinale, this film is a triumph of film making. The direction and cinematography is incredible. The visual storytelling is on point as well as the massive landscapes and costume design. Brian and Jerome recorded this two days before the passing of Hollywood legend Claudia Cardinale (strange timing, we know). But they have nothing but love and praise for of the all time great films.

"Sergio September" continues with the finale of the "Man With No Name Trilogy" or the "Dollars Trilogy" to others, with "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" from 1966. It's a powerhouse of a film with incredible direction, cinematography and music. It was not as well received when it initially came out in 1966, but overtime has become a generational classic with iconic imagery and music. It's now regarded as a masterpiece and one of the greatest films ever made.

Jerome and Brian continue "Sergio September" with the second film in the "Dollars Trilogy" with a "For a Few Dollars More" from 1965. Often overlooked because of its placement in the series, this film is still regarded as one of the top Westerns of all time. It's actually one of Brian's favorite films of all time as he picks this as the best of the trilogy. The music, cinematography, acting, costumes and sets are tremendous. You can tell with this film that Sergio Leone really found his stride as director.

"Sergio September" is underway as Brian and Jerome are set to watch four of Sergio Leone's classic Westerns. They start with a "Fistful of Dollars" and because of the awesome coincidence of AEW using the main theme from the film as part of Hangman Page's entrance for All In Texas, they just had to pair it with the film. Both love Clint Eastwood and Westerns. When mixed with a 5 * match, it's like pairing peanut butter and jelly.

Jerome and Brian end "August with Altman" with his final film, A Prairie Home Companion (2006). It has an all-star cast with very little plot. Sounds like Robert Altman. Both agree the music is great and the casting and acting is very good. But both also agree that this film was Robert Altman accepting his mortality and facing his immanent death months later in 2006. It's a perfect way to close out the month.

Jerome and Brian continue "August With Altman" with a film that got nominated for multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It's the prequel/precursor of Downton Abbey with writer Julian Fellows and his collaboration with Robert Altman in this 'who dunnit' murder mystery. The cast is star studded from Michael Gambon to Helen Mirren to Clive Owen to Maggie Smith, etc., etc. Brian is fascinated by the film while Jerome was hoping for more of the dark humor that Altman usually brings to the table.
