小常識
若想使用支票，你的銀行戶頭裡必須有存款，但沒有存款的人還是能取得信用卡的使用權，此外，有些支票就連在美國境內也都無法跨州兌現，信用卡卻能通行全世界。基於以上種種便利，持有信用卡的人遠比使用支票的人多。不過，信用卡也有缺點，只要稍不留意就會刷爆，甚至導致破產。

credit card 是從sell on credit (賒帳)引申而來的，credit 有「信用貸款」、「存款」、「榮譽」、「(某學科的)學分」等意思，雖然簡單，意義和用法卻相當多:
I'd like to buy it on a year's credit， not by cash.

I'm going to credit my bank account three hundred dollars.

a credit card的英文定義是card issued by a company or a bank enabling its holder to obtain (獲得) goods and services on credit.
