Secrets of Surviving Scaling

Sometimes surviving agile at scale feels like a never-ending cycle of defeat. There are ways to get through it and there’s light at the end of the tunnel. It doesn’t always have to be a train wreck. Some agile coaches believe that scaling agile is not even agile but there are tons of frameworks that help address the issues. If there’s one thing that SAFe, LeSS, etc. have in common, it is to address one area of your scaled framework that is often the culprit for so much confusion. This episode will address a few things to help you with that journey. This episode would be good for leaders, project managers, product, owners, scrum, masters, and agile teams.

Bye Bye Backlog Hijacker

One thing lots of agile or scrum teams have in common is that they experience carry over work. Sometimes, we can do it and still survive and meet our goals. But if carry over work becomes the norm and we are unable to get out of the trend, it is problematic for us. There are several different culprits that lead to carry over work, but none is worse than the backlog hijacker. This episode is great for agile leaders, scrum masters, dev teams, software managers and of course the Product Owner!

We'll explore some ways to diagnose and triage this problem we have and learn how to say bye bye to our backlog hijacker!

Thank you all for your continued support and sharing the podcast! I love being your Practical Agile Coach!

Full cycle of the sprint backlog

It’s the final round folks! This episode will help the product owner and the Dev team put all three parts of the sprint backlog together in the full cycle! How exciting! How do we know what a product backlog item looks like and how do we know if we’re giving the team the right information to have the right conversations? This episode will explore some of those details and help you with some think of patterns to help increase flow of value. Flow of value is actually what we’re seeking in agile software development, particularly in scrum.

The Product Backlog Item

Too many times product owners overdo it when it comes to the Sprint backlog. The sprint backlog is owned by the dev team, not by the product owner. This episode will focus on one or two ideas that may help you back into the product backlog. Remember, the product backlog serves as an input for the team and that input goes into a process, which in this case allows the team to create a sprint goal. This is part two of the series to help the product owner and agile development team with new thinking patterns and a new perspective to improve the sprint backlog.

The Agile Mirror

Glad to be back with this episode!

And yes,

I. AM. BACK !

The agile mirror is one that we often take for granted. Sometimes it’s nice just to reset, realign and just get back to the center. This episode will set up the next 3 to 5 episodes for the product owner, scrum master, team member and even leadership to help reorient and get back to the center. Why are we even doing agile development? Have we thought about that? Let’s dive in!!

I would be grateful if you would help me keep the podcast ad-free!

How can we shore up our commitments? Today, let’s focus on three topics that we need to address as a product owner or product manager with the agile or scrum teams input and feedback to make sure we are ready to accept the challenge of commitment.

Planet Product Owner
Product owner/manager Success Key #5
The old saying for the agile or scrum team is to be close to the work. We hear this a lot, but what does that really mean? Especially if we are a product owner or a product manager trying to understand what problems we want to solve. When we were in the business of discovering the unknown and solving problems, we really need to understand what it is we are actually doing. By developing and practicing the keys or skill sets that I am outlining in these episodes, your practice as a product owner or product manager in the actual space will become really effective.
