A Holographic Pop Socket Held For Ransom

Hiiii cutie pies!!

Happy Ratfood day to one to all. Hope ya ready for a lil nibbleeee on some silly silly stories in this giggly, giggly ep because we have packed them IN today.

We open the ep unpacking Lucy’s cruise romance (can’t beLIEVE we missed the opportunity for a joke around Lucy Bain/Bain Marie but - here we are!!) and we absolutely FAIL to craft her the perfect message. Sammy then opens up a curious can of worms to do with penne and planes (flight attendants pls explain yourselves in the comments), and finally - Sam hits us with a THRILLING tale that we are honestly still gagged at from her week about how she lost her phone, and more importantly … how she got it back. WILD.

Hope you’re all staying cool in this bananasss heat wave we’re having here in Aus! And sending lots of love cheese cubes as always.

See ya for another Ratbag on Monday.

Love ya!

Mel & Sam

Mary Poppins Without Her Bag Of Bits, Is Merely Just A Woman

Well hello there bbys! Thanks for joining us again!

In today's episode Sam gets inspired by Tyra Banks' recent Hot Ice Cream venture which encourages a conversation around inventions and the ones we need, and really do not need. Our hotline asks us the vital question 'what cars would musical theatre characters drive?' and someone get the cast of Matilda OFF the e-scooters please!!! We then head to school and imagine we are a principal hiring staff for our teaching cohort, but the spanner is, we can only cast celebrities. She's a super silly one we hope you enjoy!

Love you v much!!!

Happy 2026!!! Now go talk to your neighbours!!!

Hello there rats and welcome to the new year... well... the week of the new year!!!

In today's episode we bring back our 'ins and outs' for 2026, and from Mel's desire for us to chat to our neighbours and Sam's interest in bringing 'toe socks' back, our lists are packed! We then reflect on the year that was, the highlights, the lowlights and the things we are grateful for (a huge one being you) in the bumper year that was 2025. Our 'Kick Ons' has us designing our own dream NYE party whilst skipping NO details, and building the beach hang of our dreams, and then our 'Hit It Toots!' has us improvising the perfect, soulless, corporate New Years song. A terrific ai-spooky-but-actually-live-by-us song that is the perfect way to shiver into the new year.

Thanks as always for listening, we love you!!

See you on Thursday for another ‘Ratfood!’

The Second Ratbag Christmas Special

Ho, ho, ho!!! Happy Holidays rats and welcome to the SECOND (yeah the tradition!!) Ratbag Christmas Special!

In today's episode we begin with a much needed unpacking of the Glee Christmas Episode, be prepared, Mel has pages of notes. We then sing the 12 days of christmas but fill in the blanks with what we would gift eachother and, can't lie, we definitely present different projects to one another. Then we riff on what celebrities would sound like singing their own original christmas carols, which naaaaaturally leads into our hit it toots!

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, we want to say Happy Holidays to you and we love you very much!!!

Thanks as always for having us in your weekly rotation.

The Mum-Ification Of Mel Abroad

Hi beauties.

It’s been a really dark and heavy week in Australia this week. We hope that this half hour of silly, light chats can help to provide the tiniest reprieve. We are sending an extra bit of love to all our listeners this week after the atrocities that occurred in Bondi on Sunday night. We love you.

In today’s ep, Mel goes innnnnnnn on some of her silliest tales from her incredible trip to Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. It’s giving “ask not what you can do for your Fatphobia, but what your Fatphobia can do for YOUUUU”. We unpack the Chatty Kathy effect while travelling, what it’s like travelling with a partner (fights included - OBVIOUSLY), the devastation of saying goodbye to any hope of looking hot in a travel photo and of course … the Mum-Ification of Mel O’Brien. Steps 1, 2 and 3.

We hope these travel stories make you giggle!

Love and cheese cubes to you all this Ratfood day, and we will of course see you for another Ratbag on Monday.

Go gently this week, treasures.

Love,

Mel & Sam

Siri Is A Nimwit, And Some Other Gripes With Tech

Well HIIIII rats! Thanks for joining us yet again!

In today's episode Mel brings her heated list of her current gripes with technology, and from forms and their inability to accept an apostrophe, to maps hating when you 'add a stop' we hope this list feels cathartic. We then get right into a listener story involving a ghost and Mel tries her best to pretend she belives in ghosts, and let's just say this, she needs to work on her acting. There's then a fun riff around the things we hated as kids that we now love as adults, and we sing from the perspective of Siri and a Ghost.

Thanks as always for having us in your weekly rotation.

Wishing you a very ratty Thursday as we prepare for our 24 hour livestream (HELP).

Today we are chatting about the ‘Angel tree’ trend that has been saturating our eyes on TikTok, the ins and outs of ‘giving’ as someone with a platform, some of the ways in which we are choosing to use our platforms this holiday season and what happens when a fandom name just doesn’t stick?

We also go in talking about THEEEEE Lady Gaga tour, the politics of the infamous barricade walk and lots, lots more.

Fresh Haircut and a Piss Trough

Hello there ratties!

Another Monday, another Ratbag, gotta love a routine!

In today's episode we venture down the metaverse and unpack the hillarious ways users have 'misread social cues' and from a driving instructor becoming a headrest to a prison guard completely misreading the vibe, these entries are just too good. Our 'Bring Bring Bitch!' Hotline opens up a gorgeous reflective space for our listeners to share their stories on how they knew they were in the right career and its truly very wholesome. Then Mel brings an earth shattering observation about fresh haircuts, and we sing inspired by... exactly that!

Thanks as always for listening, we love you!!

Reclining Your Chair Is FEMINISM!!

Hello cutie patooooooties.

Wishing you a very ratty Thursday!

Today we are going IN on some never-before-discussed topics that split the nation. We thought there was only one right way to do many of these things but today we learn that HALF THE WORLD IS FUCKED HONESTLY.

We’re talkin’ pyjama storage. We’re talkin’ hot plates. We’re talkin’ the politics of reclining a chair on a plane. We’re talkin’ fainting, ‘do not disturb’ and so much more. All very important stuff (obviously).

Let us know where you stand on these deeply important issues pls <3

Before There Was 50 Shades Of Gray, There Was Dr. Esmé Louise James

Hey hey darlings!

Boy oh boyyyyyy are we keen for this week's episode, you are truly not ready for our guest today... she's a doctor, an author, a content creator, a sex historian and the face of 'Kinky History'... she is truly iconic, please welcome to the pod Esmé Louise James!!!

In today's episode we basically just let the genius that is Esmé's brain wash over our rat heads as she shares many interesting facts, from Marie Antoinette, to foot fetishes to why Melbourne seems to be a hot spot for back door fun. We of course open up our 'Bring Bring Bitch!' Hotline for all of your questions, and then we have a round of 'Kinky Ratty History Corner' where Esmé, you guessed it, shares more facts.

It wouldn't be a Ratbag without some improv and for our 'Hit It Toots' we join all join forces to present to you a three part arrangement of 'Finger Banging In The Carriage' the Musical. We are beyond grateful to Esmé for joining us for this episode, if you don't follow her already please do so, you are missing out!!!

From the productions that should not be done in High School that we unfortunately did, to Sam being banished to the wings and being denied an on stage moment, this episode is packed with enough tales to fill your thespian cup.

No seriously, this entire episode we are chatting the musicals of our past and we hope you find some solace in this yarn.

In today’s episode Mel unleashes the ultimate ranking of the Arnott’s Assorted Creams and this segment, to our surprise, unlocks an Oreo conspiracy and a horrible realisation about Teddy Bear Biscuits, a staple in the O'Brien household.

Our hotline brings a listener dm (ps - thank you for these please keeo em coming!!), who seeks some advice around their housemate having very loud sex. Then we answer the questionn "how long would society last if it was run by only our mini-me-clones?" As always she’s bloody stupid one and we love you oh so much for listening!

We also chat crash outs and moments where we can be the biggest sensitive Sallys and lots, lots more! So stick around and we hope this ep gives you some giggles wherever you are!

Love and cheese cubes to you all this Ratfood day, and we will of course see you for another Ratbag on Monday.

Mwa mwa mwa!

Mel & Sam would like to acknowledge that Ratbag is being recorded on Stolen Land.

The original custodians of this land have had a rich history of storytelling for over 65,000 years, and we pay our respects to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation whose land we are recording Ratbag on.

Treaties were never signed. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

Pink Walked So That Chappell Roan Could Run

Hey rats!!

Welcome to another episode and today we are taking the 'swing' practice in musical theatre to a whole new medium and assigning the perfect covers/swings for the pop stars of today. Then we discuss, probably to an academic

We then take the time to unpack the gayest instruments in the orchestra and we go in hard thanks to a listener dm for our 'Bring Bring Bitch! Hotline'. We then share our irrational fears including silent discos and morning alarms.

Thanks once again for popping us in your listening roation you little rats. Obsessed with you all.

See you Thursdays for another '‘Ratfood!’

Halloween, Chatty Kathies & Hooking Up With Austin Powers

Hiiiii cuties!

Welcome to this week’s Ratfood (on the road!) Sammy is coming to us live from her currently-falling-down hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam and Mel is coming to you live with sleepy eye bags from her living room.

This week, it’s a gorgy laid back catch up vibe as we chat all things Halloween weekend, ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’ (Sydney Theatre Company), a misunderstanding on the Yarra Bridge with a VERY chatty MTC subscriber (or was it?), a film at the Jewish International Film Festival and so much more.

We hope you’re having a beautiful week wherever you are! Now, everyone go get Samantha Andrew in a sauna, give her a double shot oat flat white and HATCH HER YOUR PLANS. You won’t regret it.

Love and cheese cubes to you all this Ratfood day, and we will of course see you for another Ratbag on Monday.

Mwa mwa mwa!

Ratbag with Mel & Sam
Get Your Lesbian Feet Out Of My Shoes!!!

Heyaaaa!

Welcome to another ep of 'Ratbag' with the ONLY Mel and Sam you need to know in your lifetime.

To open the episode Mel brings to the pod studio, the other Mel and Sam duos that exist online and their business ventures. From witches to teachers, the collection is eclectic, and truly perfect.

Our "Bring Bring Bitch!' Hotline inspires a conversation about the perfect movies that are yet to be turned into musicals.

We then design our perfect music festival set lists and spoiler alert - Mel is hiring Barbara Streisand. Then we end the episode with 'Bend It Like Beckham' the musical, only Sam can't remember it (shocker... not).

Love you as always and see you Thursdays for another '‘Ratfood!’
