気づけば少年時代は遠い昔の物語。
あの頃「ギズモがんばえー！」と舌ったらずに応援していた僕ら。
毛むくじゃらで可愛らしい歌うペットとグロテスクでモラルがかけらもない緑のバケモノのコントラストは、当時の僕らの心を掴んで離さなかった。
今見ると撮影技術の限界もあって見るに堪えない・・・・・・かと思いきやそうでもないのがすごいよね。
２のはちゃめちゃっぷりも一周回って許せちゃったりするもんよ。
というわけで今回はグレムリンとともに一夜を過ごしてみませんか？

Hey, it’s Mako, your friendly neighborhood movie rambling host.
My childhood feels like a lifetime ago now. Back then I was that kid lisping,
“Gizmo, you can do it!!” in front of the TV.
A fluffy, singing pet on one side and grotesque, zero-morals green monsters on the other.
That contrast had our little hearts in a chokehold.
You’d think the old-school effects would make it unwatchable today…
but surprise: it still totally works.
And Gremlins 2? It’s so over-the-top that it kind of loops back around to being lovable.
So tonight, how about spending a whole night with the Gremlins together?
This talk originally started as a solo episode on my side project podcast
“Yomoyama Kobanashi” (#よもやまこばなし / #まこばな)
where I, podcaster Mako (@_macobana), ramble about all the stuff I can’t fit into my main show

時代を象徴する伝説的なミュージシャンがたった一晩で。
プロジェクトが立ち上がってからわずか10日でつくらげられた名曲。
伝説的な楽曲でありながらその背景としても伝説的なエピソードがいくつも出てくるこの曲。
果たして天才のひしめくレコーディング現場ではどのような天才的なやり取りがなされていたのか。
いざみてみると思いの外人間ぽいっていうか。
僕たちは日頃どれだけ天才という生き物に線を引いて手の届かぬものにして、自分を納得させていたのかを理解する一本となっています。
人間だからこそ作れるものがある。
それはさておき、結局みんなシンディローパーパートのアドリブ好きだよね。

Hey everyone, this is Mako, your resident film-rambling podcaster.
This time, Ouma from #ポケ沼 joins me again—and we’re diving into a Netflix documentary.
And yeah、this one’s basically boomer bait.
We’re talking about that legendary, era-defining anthem… recorded in a single night, thrown together in just ten days from project launch to final mix.
A miracle track backed by a stack of miracle stories.
But here’s the surprise:
When you peek into the studio where all these “geniuses” gathered, the vibe is way more human than you’d expect.
Watching it, you start to realize something:
How often do we draw a line between “us” and “genius” just to protect our own self-esteem?

#トキシックマスキュリニティ とか言われちゃう時代だけれども、確かに男だけで醸成されるあの#ホモソーシャル な空間の居心地の良さってのは確かにあって・・・
まあそんなわけで2020年代を今生きる我々が2009年ごろの男たちの苦悩や不安をお察しする１時間となりました。

Kicking off in 2009, this all-time favorite ridiculous comedy still hits hard.
It’s hilarious, no doubt, but… trying to analyze it? Yeah, that’s a whole different kind of hangover.
Still, we managed to shape a conversation out of it.
In an age where words like toxic masculinity dominate the discourse, it’s interesting to revisit that male-bonding energy — that warm, chaotic comfort of the homosocial.
So, in a way, this episode turned into a reflection on how we — living in the 2020s — can look back and empathize with the anxieties and insecurities of men in 2009.
Stick around; the hangover might be gone, but the conversation’s just getting started.

２時間があっという間に感じるブラックユーモア溢れるコメディですが、今改めてみてみると社会的なメッセージを含む傑作だったことが見えてきます。
笑えるだけがコメディじゃない。
笑いの先に社会をすかしみて、少しウィットのある余韻を残すのが良質なコメディかもしれない。
そんなことを考えさせられるハロウィンの夜でした。

It’s a pitch-black comedy full of morbid wit and charm, the kind that makes two hours fly by in a blink.
But rewatching it now, you start to notice something deeper:
behind the laughs, there’s a surprisingly sharp social message.
Comedy isn’t just about making people laugh — it’s about holding up a mirror to society and leaving that faint aftertaste of irony.
That, I think, is what makes good comedy.
Anyway… by the time you’re listening to this, Halloween’s probably long over.

今回はショーンオブザデッド。
誰でもピンとくると思いますがドーンオブザデッドをもじったタイトルのゾンビ映画パロディです。
・・・ホラー映画・・・・・・ではないですね。
コメディ映画でありながらシリアス展開も楽しめる本作。
笑い飛ばして気持ちよく終わってしまうのも良いですが、明確なメッセージが感じられて・・・
というよりメッセージが明確すぎて一般論に終始してしまった感がありました。
芸術が自由なら解釈も自由なわけで。
もう少し独自の解釈でもなんでも見つけられればよかったなと反省。
話は変わるけど商業施設の不審者対応用のさすまた、江戸時代のやつに戻した方が強いと思うんだけどな。

This time I’m joined by Orma from #ポケ沼 to dive into Shaun of the Dead.
As you can probably guess, the title riffs on Dawn of the Dead—but let’s be real, this isn’t exactly a horror flick. It’s a parody zombie comedy that still manages to slip in some surprisingly serious turns.
Sure, you can just laugh it off and enjoy the ride, but the film’s message comes through almost too clearly—so much so that our talk ended up circling around pretty general themes. Art is free, which means interpretations should be free too. Looking back, I kinda wish I had dug up a more off-beat take of my own.
Oh, and totally off topic—but you know those modern sasumata poles malls keep for intruder defense? Honestly, I think the Edo-period versions were way more effective… just saying.

But with famous films like this, there’s always that strange sense of intimidation — that feeling of how do I even begin to talk about something so mythic?
To explore its essence is, in a way, to question how far interpretation itself can go in art.

ホラー映画です。
・・・ホラー映画ですか？
というわけで今回はジャンルシフトものを一本見てみました。
面白い映画なことは確かなのですが、これってありなのかしら？
かなりライトにお話ししていますが、創作物におけるいわゆるハズしみたいなものをどこまで許容するのか、みたいな話になりました。
芸術は自由ですが、最終的に評価を下すのは大衆なわけで、どこに折り合いをつけるのかというのもまたその作品を表現した者の作家性なのでしょう。
小難しく考えずに意外性を楽しむくらいの姿勢で見るのが最高ですね。

This time I’m joined by Orma from #ポケ沼, and we dove into the film You’re Next (released in Japan as Surprise).
So… is this really a horror movie? Well, that’s the fun of it.
We’re talking about genre-shift films—movies that pull the rug out from under you. It’s definitely entertaining, but is it fair play?
We kept it pretty light, but the conversation ended up circling around that bigger question: how much “bait-and-switch” is acceptable in storytelling? Art is free, sure—but at the end of the day, it’s the audience that passes judgment. That balance point between surprise and betrayal is where a creator’s personality shines through.
At the end of the day, maybe it’s best not to overthink it and just enjoy the unexpected. That’s when these movies hit the hardest.

人が死ぬってどういうこと。
９０年代アメリカの抱える不安ってなあに？
僕たちは人の死をどう乗り越えていきていくのかな。
刻一刻と変化していく社会の中で、死者との対話のあり方も変わっていく。
令和を生きる皆さんと共に考えてみたいものです。

Yeah, I’ve seen it a couple times before. But man, romance films really hit different, don’t they? Sweet—almost toosweet. So sweet it makes you wanna roast it a little.
Still, every cliché has its origin, and Ghost is one of those cornerstones that turned syrupy tropes into a template for everything that followed.
What’s really going on in that famous pottery-wheel scene?
What does it mean for someone to die?
And what kind of anxieties were Americans carrying in the 1990s?
Most of all: how do we, the living, move forward after losing someone?
As society changes, so does the way we talk to the dead.
So let’s think about it together—from the perspective of those of us living in Reiwa-era Japan.

世界的おばか映画の『オースティンパワーズ』をガチで真面目に語ってみたらこうなりました。
いや、でもね。これ意外と楽しめちゃったのよ。悔しいけど。
前回は見てもいないのにこき下ろしてたからね。反省します。
確かに今見るときっついノリはあるかもしれないけれど意外にも今の時代だからこそ響く描写もあったりして・・・・・・。
だから映画は面白いし、だから古典は面白いのよ。
オースティンパワーズを古典呼ばわりしたらいろんなところから石が飛んでくると思うけど、時代を越える人の感性ってのはやっぱりあるんだよ。
つまりは雨月物語面白いから読めってこと。

This time I’ve got Orma from #ポケ沼 back in the studio, and we’re tackling none other than the global king of dumb comedies: Austin Powers.
Here’s the twist—we actually tried to talk about it seriously.
And, you know what? Against my better judgment… I kinda enjoyed it. Painful to admit, but true.
Last time, I trashed it without even watching. Yeah, my bad.
Sure, the gags can feel pretty dated today, but weirdly enough, there are moments that hit harder because of the times we’re in now.
That’s why movies are fun. And that’s why “classics” stay fun.
Yeah, I know—calling Austin Powers a “classic” will probably get rocks thrown at me. But hey, certain sensibilities really do cross generations.
Basically what I’m saying is… read Ugetsu Monogatari, people.

Now, let’s be honest—these two are the black sheep of the franchise. Fans love to hurl their spears of criticism, and for good reason. The plots are messy, the choices questionable… and yet, I can’t bring myself to hate them. That’s the magic of this series—it keeps pulling us back, flaws and all.
Why do we humans crave stories about being hunted by monstrous creatures?
Maybe it’s because, deep down, that struggle reflects our search for meaning.
Why do we live?
Where is the line that humanity was never meant to cross?
Through these films, I’d like to wrestle with those very questions.

This time, by listener request, we’re diving into the Alien series.
For round one, it’s Alien and Aliens. Honestly, these two back-to-back masterpieces almost feel like too much to cram into one episode… but hey, we’ve got seven films to cover, so here we go.
This franchise turned the very word alien into the go-to synonym for “monster.” The shockwaves it sent through audiences, and its cultural impact, are just incredible.
And then there’s Ripley—watching her evolve across the series is a story all on its own.
What were the creators (and the times they lived in) really projecting onto her? Onto the Xenomorphs?
We’ll dig deeper as the episodes roll on.
But remember—it’s just two middle-aged guys riffing, so cut us some slack.

This time we’re wrapping up our Summer Horror Special with the film that shook audiences worldwide — #Midsommar.
And… well, let’s be real. It’s basically a remake of #TheWickerMan, right?
That said, there’s still plenty to chew on: layered symbolism, meticulously crafted characters, and endless room for interpretation. Depending on who’s watching, the “answer” you come away with can look completely different.
We humans can’t help but lean on something to feel secure. But in this turbulent age, how exactly are we supposed to keep ourselves together?
That’s the question I kept circling back to as we talked through this one.

どうも、パーソナリティのまこです。
今回はリスナーリクエストということで「#ゲットアウト」を語りました。
このホラー、とんでも設定なくせにとにかくよくできている。
脚本の完成度が異常なまでに高められているし、演者の演技が尋常じゃないのよね。
２度目見返してみると見えてくる登場人物のセリフや行動の真意みたいなものも本当にすごい。
日本に暮らす日本人として、人種差別というものにあまり当事者意識を持っていない人は多いけれども、こういう作品を通じて解像度が高まると、人ごとじゃねえなって思いがぐっと引き出されます。
今こそ見るべき一品！
