Bevor sich slawische Fürstentümer und Staaten formten, bevor Namen wie die Piasten oder die Kiewer Rus Geschichte schrieben, lebten die frühen slawischen Gemeinschaften in ganz anderen Strukturen: egalitär, gemeinschaftlich und erstaunlich dezentral. In dieser Folge werfen wir einen Blick auf die Zeit vom 7. bis zum 10. Jahrhundert – eine Epoche, in der sich die slawische Gesellschaft langsam wandelte: Von gleichberechtigten Dorfräten und segmentären Gesellschaften hin zu ersten militärischen Führern, Stammesverbänden und einem neuen Verständnis von Macht und Herrschaft.

Die frühen Slawen waren Nomaden, bis sie die Vorteile eines sesshaften Lebens erkannten. Ihre ersten Wallanlagen waren nicht nur zum Schutz, sondern auch Zentren von Macht und Handel. Allein im westslawischen Raum gab es über 3000 solcher Anlagen. Anfangs aus Holz und Erde errichtet, entwickelten sie sich zu befestigten Fürstensitzen, die politische und wirtschaftliche Zentren bildeten. Heute blicken wir auf den Beginn dieses spannenden Wandels hin zum Zeitalter der Burgen.

Heute reisen wir nach Böhmen, einem Land, das sich aus losen Stammesverbänden zu einem mächtigen Herzogtum und schließlich zum Königreich entwickelte. Von den slawischen Siedlern des 6. Jahrhunderts über das Großmährische Reich und den Aufstieg der Přemysliden bis hin zur Königserhebung Ottokars I. – Böhmen war Schauplatz von Intrigen, Kriegen und religiösem Wandel. Herrscher wie Wenzel, Boleslav der Grausame und Ottokar II. prägten das Land zwischen Franken, Polen und Ungarn. Eine Geschichte von Machtkämpfen, Bündnissen und dem Streben nach Unabhängigkeit.

In dieser Folge reisen wir in das Großmährische Reich, eines der ersten großen Staaten der Westslawen. Wir erfahren wie Mojmir I. die Grundlagen für das Reich der Mährer legte, wie Rastislav die slawische Kirche mit der byzantinischen Verband, 2 Missionare die kyrillische Schrift erfanden und wie Svatopluk das Reich zu seiner größten Ausdehnung führte. Doch auch Intrigen, Machtkämpfe und äußere Bedrohungen prägten die Geschichte dieses faszinierenden Reichs.
