In the last episode of the podcast, we talk about our experience moving back to the US and adjusting to American culture again.

We had a few leftover stories that ended up getting cut from previous episodes. These were too interesting and funny to leave out of the podcast completely, so I’ve assembled them into a bonus episode.

In this episode, we reflect on living in Japan for a year. Dru listens to a time capsule that was recorded more than a year ago, as he was boarding his plane to leave for Japan.

We talk about the dichotomy between the perceptions of Japanese culture that we Westerners have, some really interesting consequences of that dichotomy. Through April and early May, Japan experiences cherry blossom season. This is an event that the entire country anticipates, with tons of cherry-blossom-themed items for sale and celebrations. We discuss what we think about the season and how it compares to the rest of Japan's weather.

We talk about best practices while traveling and hosting visitors. We have had over a dozen people visit and stay with us in Japan over the last eight months.

In the last part of our technology series, we talk about how Japan is hyper-focused on convenience but it ends up being severely confusing for foreigners who are not used to doing things the local Japanese way.

This episode, we discuss what it’s like to bike in Tokyo. We’ve found that Tokyo has city infrastructure optimized for biking and that our commutes are some of the best times in our day.

Dru and Vivian reflect on the move and what went (hilariously) wrong. We also talk about our three-day weekend in Kanazawa and how the trip was how we imagined living in Japan would be like.

It's been thirty years since Vivian's mom and dad first moved to the United States in 1988. In this episode, we interview her parents about their hopes and worries when immigrating to a new country. They look back and reflect on their journey, and give some advice to Dru and Vivian about moving to Japan.

It's the last two days before Dru leaves for Japan. We conduct an "exit interview", a common practice where companies conduct a survey when an employee leaves. In this case, Dru is terminating his relationship with San Francisco.
