Shame-less Stories
The Weight of Shame Isn’t Yours To Carry with Gemma Went, strategist, energy practitioner, soul-technologist and channel

Trigger Warnings: This episode contains discussion of childhood abuse, bullying, trauma and addiction. Please take care of yourself while listening.

In this episode of Shameless Stories, Sarah Lloyd speaks with online business mentor, coach, and energy healer Gemma Went about her journey of moving through deep shame into healing, empowerment, and purpose.

Gemma shares openly about growing up with undiagnosed ADHD, carrying the weight of childhood trauma, abuse, and bullying, and how shame shaped her identity for decades. From being an angry, risk-taking young woman to becoming a conscious entrepreneur and healer, Gemma’s story is one of resilience, self-discovery, and breaking free from cycles of silence.

Together, Sarah and Gemma explore:

  • What shame really is and how it shows up in our bodies, minds, and businesses

  • The impact of late ADHD diagnosis and the shame of “feeling different” as a child

  • How both big trauma and “little” trauma create the same shame responses in the body

  • The link between entrepreneurship, visibility, and shame in the online business world

  • How energy healing, somatic work, and mindset shifts can clear the weight of shame

  • Why breaking cycles of silence helps future generations live freer, shameless lives

Gemma also shares how she now supports entrepreneurs through The Lighthouse, blending strategy, energy clearing, and ethical business growth to help clients release shame, heal limiting beliefs, and thrive without comparison or judgement.

If you’ve ever carried shame around who you are, felt “too much” or “not enough,” or struggled with visibility and worth in business or life, this conversation will resonate deeply.

Episode 28: Find Your Truth with Lizzie Cantopher, artist, author and soul healer

In this empowering episode, Sarah is joined by Lizzie Cantopher - nurse, adventurer, soul healer, and now author of The Nightingale Who Lost Her Song. Lizzie’s story is one of grit, creativity, and defying the odds despite a lifetime of being told she “couldn’t.”

From being ridiculed at age five for reading pictures instead of words, to becoming Great Britain’s number three in archery, riding across the Himalayas, and qualifying as a nurse despite severe dyslexia and dyscalculia; Lizzie has lived a life that proves we can rewrite the narratives handed to us.

    Join us as we explore:

    • Early school experiences and the shame of undiagnosed learning differences

    • How she developed a “jester” persona to mask her struggles

    • Discovering her unique strengths, including a photographic memory and heightened sensory awareness

    • The turning point moment in a bookshop that sparked her writing journey

    • How The Nightingale Who Lost Her Song became a symbol of making the impossible possible

    • Raising neurodiverse children and fighting for a better educational experience for them

    • Why society needs many ways of teaching, not a one-size-fits-all system

    • Living shamelessly by owning your truth, no matter how different it looks

Learn to Love Yourself Back From Shame, with Nicole Barton - Medicina Alchemilla, Apothecary of Ancient Healing Truth

In this soul-stirring episode, Sarah is joined by the magical and unapologetically powerful Nicole Barton, also known as Alchemilla: Apothecary Witch Doctrix of Ancient Healing Truth. Together, they dive into the alchemy of shame, the journey of self-healing, and the radical act of reclaiming the title of Witch.

Nicole introduces us to the idea of the soul remedy; the unique wound we’re born to transform and share as healing medicine for others.

She shares how her work blends homeopathy, energy healing, archetypes, and deep personal transformation into a powerful modality that invites women back to their truth, magic, and sovereignty.

“Shame is the gatekeeper to our liberation. If we’re brave enough to meet it, it becomes the remedy.”

✨ Shame shared is shame alchemised. Thanks for listening, and see you next week for another shameless conversation.

    More about Nicole:

Nicole Barton is a Witch Midwife on a mission to help Secret Witches - aka secretly magical women who hide their power - to rebirth themselves and live their true destiny by expressing their unapologetic magic.  She does this by helping women to heal themselves, discover their gifts and heal the fear of expressing their authentic selves.

Experiencing burnout as a child, and as an adult - and after visiting many healers in attempts to ‘ quick fix’ her ‘sensitivity’ - Nicole eventually came to see that her deep sensitivity was actually a gift that made her a powerful healer.  Through this, she realised that our wounds are, in fact, the place where we discover our gifts - and that learning to journey with healing ourselves (rather than outsourcing) - is a vital part of the ‘initiation’ of the ‘witch’; and a much needed part of the journey into ‘becoming’ a healer (for ourselves and others).  She now helps other sensitive souls who are born to be healers; to journey tenderly into the three steps required to actualise their gifts: learning to heal themselves (and especially reclaim their witchy Feminine soft-power, magic and wild expression), discover their unique gift in their wounds and express their healing remedy into the world.

Through her Archetypal Apothecary™ path (which is a unique combination of the 3 ancient wisdom bodies of homeopathy, archetypal psychology and energy healing, and provides a clear map to your soul) - and with over a decade’s experience of being a healer - Nicole guides women to understand their soul’s plan and harness it to heal themselves so they can become the unapologetically magical healer witches their souls were born to be.

In this rich, raw, and radically honest conversation, I am joined by the incomparable Rebecca Barr - money mentor, business growth strategist, intuitive coach, and proud mum of six - for a soul-shaking episode that dives deep into the intersections of shame, self-trust, success, and feminine leadership.

    Together, we unpack:

    - Rebecca’s powerful personal story - from growing up in chaos and shame, to building and walking away from a million-pound property empire, and finally stepping into her truth as an entrepreneur and healer.

    - Why our relationship with money is never just about money, and how subconscious beliefs, worthiness wounds, and generational trauma all impact what we allow ourselves to receive.

    - How the corporate world conditions women to play small, and how many of us end up recreating it in our businesses without realising.

    - The identity shift that comes with actually healing and learning to embody your full power.

    - The power of Human Design and leaning into your natural energy type as a business owner.

    - Parenting, homeschooling, and healing your inner child while raising conscious, creative kids, and why your healing truly is your legacy.

    - Why you don’t need a sales page, email list or perfectly curated feed to build a thriving business; just conviction, clarity, and courage to do it your way.

Plus: burnout, intuition, the rise of feminine leadership, rejection as protection, and letting go of the boss babe blueprint for good.

    Shame-less Stories
Living Well on Your Own Terms with Wendy-Anne Steer, The Well-being Alchemist

What happens when your body calls time on the life you’ve been pushing through?

This week’s episode is a deeply powerful conversation with Wendy-Anne Steer, a woman who went from a high-achieving corporate career to lying on the floor, unable to hold a hairdryer. Her story is one of complete burnout, ME and ultimately, transformation.

    We talk about:

✨ The shame of not being able to do “the basics” and how recovery can start with something as simple as emptying a dishwasher

✨ Losing identity, ambition, and energy and finding new meaning in the stillness

✨ The link between ME, autism, ADHD, and nervous system burnout

✨ Letting go of labels and choosing to alchemise your experience into something beautiful

✨ Why retreats, space, and nervous system repair are non-negotiables (not luxuries)

Wendy shares her journey of burning out, breaking down, and rebuilding - not as the woman she was before, but as something more whole, more intuitive, and more real.

If you’ve ever felt like your body betrayed you, like you’ve “failed” for not coping, or like you’re craving a softer, wiser way of living… this one will hit you in the heart.

    About Wendy:

Wendy, known as The Well-Being Alchemist, has dedicated the past 20 years to the relentless pursuit of knowledge in well-being and various healing modalities. Her journey began with a deeply personal and transformative experience: at the age of 30, she was diagnosed with M.E./Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This unexpected challenge put a sudden halt to her career and marked the most humbling and educational period of her life. After enduring three long years of suffering, Wendy made a complete recovery, a triumph that fueled her passion for helping others find their well-being balance.

Driven by her own experience and an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Wendy has trained extensively in numerous healing modalities. Her commitment to Continuing Professional Development is unwavering, a testament to her dedication to both her clients and her personal growth. Affectionately dubbed a "Learning Slut" by a friend, Wendy embraces this moniker with pride, continually seeking to expand her expertise.

Nature serves as Wendy's sanctuary and source of healing. She finds solace and rejuvenation in activities like Stand Up Paddleboarding and Wild Swimming, even braving the cold to swim through the last six winters.

Residing in the serene landscapes of Lincolnshire with her Hubster and their now adult twins, Wendy continues to inspire and guide individuals on their paths to well-being, embodying the alchemical transformation she so passionately promotes.

Episode 17 | Breaking Free from the "Shoulds" and Living Shamelessly with Elisabeth Carley-Leonard, accidental influencer and founder of Vibes & Visibility

In this episode of Shame-less Stories, I am joined by the vibrant and inspiring Elisabeth Carley-Leonard, accidental influencer, founder of Vibes and Visibility social media agency, and a powerhouse advocate for living life unapologetically.

Elisabeth shares her incredible journey of transformation, from being elbow deep in the UK music scene - running her own venue and securing major grants - to realising that the life she had built was no longer bringing her joy. In a raw and courageous move, she left her marriage, her business, her home, and started over in London with just £100 to her name.

    We dive deep into:

    - The hidden shame of changing your mind after building a life others expect of you

    - The power of recognising when your values shift, and allowing yourself to change too

    - Why social media should be fun, not forced, and how Elisabeth helps clients rediscover their true voice online

    - How ADHD, personal development, and ditching perfectionism have helped Elisabeth thrive

    - Why showing your real, unpolished self is the ultimate magnet for authentic connections

    - How redefining professionalism can unleash your best business success yet

Elisabeth’s honesty about shame, burnout, people-pleasing, and personal reinvention will resonate with anyone who's ever felt trapped by "shoulds."

Episode 16 | Be More You! | Buckso Dhillon, Energy Transformation Coach, Speaker, Founder of Haus of Wisdom magazine

In this raw and radically honest episode of Shame-less Stories, I am joined by my partner in crime and Editor-in-Chief of Haus of Wisdom magazine, Buckso Dhillon. We dive deep into the journey that brought us from a chance meeting at a personal development event, to working together on something truly powerful.

Buckso shares her powerful awakening story - growing up in a large immigrant family, discovering her voice at 13 (literally), defying cultural expectations, overcoming grief, losing her voice (again - this time metaphorically and physically), and eventually reclaiming it as a fierce advocate for truth and authenticity.

We talk about the birth of Haus of Wisdom, why traditional magazines don’t cut it anymore, and why sharing our messy, magnificent stories without shame is a spiritual act. If you’ve ever felt like the odd one out, questioned your path, or wanted to be more YOU, this conversation is for you.

Episode 15 | Reclaiming HER | Marie Ferguson, Feminine Embodiment Leader & Empowerment Coach

*trigger warning - the themes of baby loss, miscarriage are discussed*

It is with such honour, and I am grateful that the powerful Marie Ferguson, a feminine embodiment leader, empowerment coach and global platform speaker from Australia, joins me this week on Shame-less Stories.

Marie and I met on a women’s summit and hit it off immediately; it was her passion for storytelling that lit a fire under my own desire to share stories. Marie has achieved so much over the past year, including building three businesses, supporting over 160 leaders from 14 countries, and speaking on 22 platforms.

Along with speaking about her triumphs, Marie also shares with me her traumatic experiences of miscarriages, and her journey of growth and transformation, including her decision to undergo a self-initiation process, and her current pregnancy!

We discuss the importance of owning one's story, not allowing others' narratives to define oneself, and the need to navigate life's messy moments with grace and integrity.

Marie also talks about shame and how it can be overcome by embracing self-love and self-care.

Ultimately, this episode serves as a call to action for women to reclaim their narratives and support one another in their journeys.

Episode 13 | Being Shame-lessly Unbound! | Nicola Humber, Rebel Leader of the Unbound Press

Today’s a very exciting episode of the Shame-Less Stories Podcast – as we hit episode number 13 – lucky for some, we are delighted to announce our collaboration with publishing imprint, The Unbound Press.

To announce this exciting step for us, we are joined by rebel leader of The Unbound Press, Nicola Humber.

The Unbound Press will be the headline sponsor of Shame-less Stories, aiming to amplify both their work and commitment to storytelling.

Nicola shares her journey from a corporate finance background to becoming a hypnotherapist and coach, and eventually the publisher of The Unbound Press.

She recalls a significant experience from her childhood where she was publicly shamed for her writing, which led her to reflect on shame and its impact.

During the show we also discuss the importance of allowing writers to express themselves uniquely and authentically, rather than trying to homogenise their work.

Nicola is passionate about writers needing to give themselves permission to write and share their stories, rather than waiting for external validation; and how shame can play a part in holding writers back from sharing their true selves.

Along with a few menopausal-pauses, it’s a show packed with gold. Can’t wait for you to tune in!

To learn more about the Unbound Press and the unique approach you can find out more at www.theunboundpress.com and www.nicolahumber.com
