Hey Students! We're on break as of the original posting date of this episode. But we wanted to take a few minutes and just sit down and reflect on 200 episodes of SlashU. We've seen a TON of cheesy, campy, sometimes forgotten Slasher/Horror movies. And lots of you have been along for the ride. Thanks so much to those of you who are loyal listeners of SlashU. We're always looking to grow the audience and continue to develop as a podcast but also further join the horror community. Tell a friend, leave a review, share the show. It's how we grow and we'll do our best to keep up with all of it in 2026. Happy New Year!

It's Episode 200 of SlashU! We've been making this little podcast for over 5 years now and we're still loving every minute of it. So this week we walked down memory lane for a little while. And then we covered one that's in the theaters (if you can find it). It's 2025's release of "Silent Night, Deadly Night." We went to the theater, watched it, and loved it! Join us as we dissect the movie and enjoy the holiday season with the 200th episode of SlashU! Tell your friends about the show!

We continued our "Slash-Yule" themed episodes for the most wonderful time of the year. This week we covered "Holiday Hell" from 2019. A shopkeeper tries to help a woman pick out a gift for her sister. As he takes her around his shop, he tells a different story about each of the eerie items up for sale. It's an anthology style frame story movie and it's very cool. Perfect for the Yuletide festivities. Enjoy!

For our next Slash-Yule episode of the season we're talking about "Christmassacre" from 2015 which shows up on some streaming platforms as "Secret Santa." Make sure you watch the right one or you won't understand our episode at all! This is the one from 2015 directed by Mike McMurran. The story follows a group of college students who just finished up some Final Exams. They are gathered together for a house party and a Secret Santa gift exchange. But someone has other plans. The students are gradually picked off and murdered right within the house! Who's doing it and why?

Well they can't all be winners. This week we're kicking off our annual holiday Slash Yule series of slasher movies. We started with one from 2020 that kind of falls flat, in our opinions. It's hard to image the director wasn't just trolling everyone with this movie. It's "The Fright Before Christmas" from 2020. When a magical, maniacal Santa Claus mysteriously appears at a holiday party, the guests all end up terrified and tortured. But the physical torture is only the beginning. This Santa also insists on telling them scary stories, which aren't scary at all and seem kind of pointless. So it's psychological torture too I guess. Anyway, we thought it had potential but missed the mark. We still had a lot of fun talking about it. Listen and enjoy!

The guys joined us to talk about their experience in the movie industry and generally nerd out about horror movies. Plus we talked about "Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead" from 2006. Wow! What an all-over-the-place movie! The story centers around Arbie and his love interest Wendy. They get wrapped up in the drama around a new fast-food chicken restaurant that's opening its doors to some heavy protests. The restaurant is built on an old Native American burial ground. And everyone knows that's a recipe for some haunted chicken. We had a blast picking it apart and hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving listening to us!

Welcome back to another fun episode of SlashU. This week we jumped back to cover a sequel to a movie we discussed a long time ago on the podcast; "Slumber Party Massacre." It felt wrong that we had not covered part two when we try to knock out sequels whenever we can here on the show. So this week we bring you the delayed but not forgotten "Slumber Party Massacre II" from 1987. With some references to the first one, this one cranks up the gore but also left us wondering, "was it all a dream?" Take a listen and let us know what you think.

This week we covered our first slasher movie made in New Zealand. It's straight out of 2021 and it's called "Buzz Cut." When a group of friends who call themselves a Running Club (but they use it as an excuse to get drunk) find themselves in 'the bush' up against a killer in a beekeeper uniform, it's a race against time to see who can make it out alive. Anytime a killer uses a beekeeper outfit and a chainsaw, you can sign us up to watch!

On this week's episode we jumped back to 1981 and covered an Australian movie called "Lady, Stay Dead." The story centers around handyman and serial killer Gordon Mason. He's obsessed with the actress/music superstar Marie Coleby. He takes care of the grounds around her remote Australian estate. Things go off the rails when Marie rejects Gordon's advances. Next thing you know, her sister Jenny comes to visit and has to contend with Gordon's psychosis. It's an interesting movie and we've watched and recorded our thoughts her for you! Enjoy!

On this week's podcast we covered "The Barn" from 2016. It's made in 2016 but set in 1989. We follow the story of Sam and Josh and their friends as they travel to a Halloween night rock concert. They get detoured to the town of Wheary Falls and stop near a barn at the local pumpkin patch. But the group accidentally unleashes a terrifying triple threat of demons in the form of The Miner, The Pumpkin Man, and The Scarecrow. Our gang of teens need to find a way to escape the horror, save the town, but they might miss their rock concert. Let us know what you think!

On this week's episode we connected via online teleconference style to talk about "Hell House LLC" from 2015. It's a found footage movie with a twist. They tell the story like it's a documentary which makes the found footage 'fit in' a little better than other movies that do similar things. And let's just say students, this one gets it right. Light on gore, but heavy on creep factor. We both loved it. It's the story of a group of friends opening a haunted house at an old abandoned hotel. But on opening night, there's a terrible tragedy. And five years later, a documentary crew is on the case trying to get to the bottom of what happened. Definitely a great watch for Spooky Season. Let us know what you think!

It's our first time back in-studio for a recording in what feels like ages. And so sorry we picked kind of a dud of a movie to cover. It's "Cheater Cheater" from 2024. It's the story of Joesph Givens, who returns to his hometown after getting his life together and sobering up over the last 5 years. But Joe's past also returns to catch up to him. After 5 random killings rocked the town 5 years ago, now that Joe's back, the killing starts up again. And the killer is wearing a creepy pumpkin mask. That's the only reason we picked this movie to cover during the Halloween season. Listen and try to enjoy! We watched it for you!

Welcome to Season 11 of SlashU! We've made it back to you after a September break. And to kick off both our new season and the Spooky Season, we covered "Haunt Season" from 2024. The story centers around Matilda, a new hire at a seasonal haunted house. While Matilda learns the ropes of scaring people, she grapples with what she's going to do next in her life. Should she pursue an acting career in Los Angeles? But it's scary moving to a whole new city and taking that chance! It's a good thing that for now, all she has to do is focus on surviving the Halloween season. Because someone's stalking and murdering other actors in the haunted house. Can Matilda and her friends find out who it is before it's too late? Plus we sat down with writer/director of "Haunt Season;" Jake Jarvi. He was kind enough to talk to us about the making of the film along with some of his favorite things about horror. Listen, enjoy, tell a friend and welcome back to SlashU!

This week we sat down with Wisconsin horror author and all-around nice guy DJ Slater. DJ has a horror novel coming out September 16th, 2025 called Legend Has it. Full details about the book and all information about DJ can be found at DJSlaterAuthor.com.
The story sounds like a great one:
"Seth and his friends have always heard about a legendary 10-story haunted house that travels around the Midwest every October. It's one of those haunted houses that really pushes the limits. You even have to sign a waiver! But is this traveling haunted house just an urban legend? Well, maybe. But then how do Seth and his friends wind up on its doorstep? And what horrors will they discover inside?"
We talked to DJ about his writing process, his love of the horror genre, and living in Wisconsin. Take a listen and check out his book when it drops on September 16th, 2025.

This week we covered our second movie in our annual Shark Week departure. It's "Sky Sharks" from 2020. This one has a bit of everything; Nazi's, Zombies, and Flying Sharks. As a result, it's kind of all over the place. But in a shorter-than-usual episode we managed to cover the major plot points. This movie has so much stuff and people in it that don't really matter, it's sometimes hard to follow. Climate change has melted a glacier in the Arctic enough to expose an old Nazi warship that was frozen in the ice. The thaw-out jump started some old Zombie and flying shark experiments that the Nazis had conducted near the end of World War II. As a result, the Sky Sharks are set loose to terrorize the skies. Can the fine folks at Richter Technologies stop them in time? Maybe. Listen to our breakdown!

Welcome to another Shark Week here at SlashU. Every year we pick a couple of cheesy, campy shark movies to cover, deviating from our usual slasher movie format. This week's movie is one of the "best" we've ever covered here for a shark week. During the Cold War era, Russian scientists created human-shark hybrids capable of living in extremely harsh conditions, and then shot them all to the far side of the moon. Now, in present day, a group of American astronauts en route to the moon for their own environmental and green energy experiments, find themselves way off course and running for their lives against the shark threat. Join us as we pick apart this "masterpiece" of shark-themed cinema.

Well we've come to the end of our Summer Camp Slasher Series here at SlashU. This week we covered "Bloody Summer Camp" from 2021. And we figured to end the summer camp theme we would pick one of the longest movies we've ever covered here on the podcast. This one sits at a mighty 2 hours and 5 minutes! But with so much time in the movie and so many characters on screen, the body count is high in this one. It's the story of the counselors at Camp Trustfall getting ready to welcome the campers for another summer. But a killer in a black devil mask is on the loose and no one knows who it is! This one stars our friends Felissa Rose and Dave Sheridan. So climb down off your camp zip line and listen!

On this week's episode we continue our Summer Camp Slasher Series with "She Came from the Woods" from 2022. This one is a supernatural slasher movie, which we do not often touch on here at SlashU. But we thought it would be fun to cover it for our summer camp focus. Boy, what a great decision that turned out to be! This one is fun from start to finish. As Camp Briarbrook closes up for the summer and the campers go home, the counselors throw one last big party. They get together and perform an annual silly ritual to summon the ghost of Nurse Agatha, who terrorized the camp over 40 years ago. But it turns out the stories about Nurse Agatha are true! She ends up being summoned by their ritual and proceeds to pick off our counselors one by one in an attempt to gain immortal life. Great effects, characters that you love to hate, and a story that zips along so fast you can't even tell it's an hour and forty plus movie. Of course, we found the cheesiest, campiest stuff to focus in on and had a blast talking about it. Enjoy!

Moving right along in our Summer Camp Slasher series, we have "Killer Body Count" from 2024. Cami's dad thinks she's a sex-crazed sinner, but Cami's just a normal teenage girl discovering her sexuality. Doesn't matter to Dad. He ships her off to a Catholic rehab camp hoping for Cami to be absolved of her sinful ways. At camp, Cami meets a whole group of other teen girls and some teen boys. They're all basically just horned up on "being teenagers." But there's a killer on the loose dressed as the devil out to absolve them of their sins....with a knife.
