Psalm 135 reminds us to respect the name of Lord as great and everlasting. God created this world in perfection but, since the fall of man, has demonstrated His wrath. Nonetheless, He a provided promise to Noah which was fulfilled in Christ and thus we are rescued and redeemed by His grace to recognise His majesty with due honour and praise.

The concept of a judge tends to instigate fear by association. Yet this Psalm acclaims God’s judgement as being good and righteous. It divides mankind into two different classes and consequences: while the selfish and arrogant are due to be excluded in the Day of Judgement, the reverent believers will be exalted. David testifies how his passion and faithfulness for the Lord seems overwhelming, like being caught in ’floods of deep waters’. Furthermore, is the sense of reproach and sufferings he endured from his enemies as consequence of his active, living faith. This foreshadows the devotion and distress which Christ willingly suffered, by submitting His Life to grant us salvation everlasting. With the same hope and assurance which David declares, so may we abide faithfully to God and so to rise above our daily trials and despair.

God is with His body of believers and at work when we hear is Word properly and urgently preached. In Baptism we witness His power to save us. In Holy Communion He pronounces His grace and forgiveness upon us. Reflection on Psalm 74.

As a powerful expression of distress and lament, David describes the suffering and critical state of His enemies who do not fear God. We all know the experience of troubles and despair, but David’s faithful response is to give himself to prayer to God. By investing our trust and confidence in God’s Love, we can relax knowing the security and safety He assures us, provided by salvation through Christ.

This psalm is full of declarations of honour and righteousness pledged by David. While he was a faithful and upstanding king, he still fell short being unable to keep these promises. The same is true in our own imperfections, since we are unable to adhere to the Law entirely. God granted David no end of strength and mercy in the midst of trials. It is only by the grace of Perfection in Christ, delivered to us through Baptism, we are washed clean of our errors and can still walk onwards.

Human relationships are tainted, but we know Jesus serves as our closest friend and support. God’s Love is eternal, unconditional, and undeserved; most evident in forgiveness. Reflection on Psalm 144.

God has given us the comfort of His promises that in all things He is with us and will never forsake us. Reflection on psalm 93.

Where God finds it just to punish His rebellious people He also allows those who trust in Him to repent and be saved. Reflection on Psalm 60.

Praise the Lord for His awesome power and might. In His great love and mercy God preserves the lives of those who believe in Him. Reflection on Psalm 97.

We are not without help. God uses our sufferings to lead us closer to Him. He knows and delivers those who call upon Him for help. Reflection on Psalm 22.

God’s grace doesn’t extend only to those who seem to have it all together. God’s grace is bigger, better and infinitely more forgiving than any human standard of grace. Reflection on Psalm 28.

As mountains cannot be moved neither can God be moved by any evil doer. He abides with His people surrounding them with His love, mercy and grace. Reflection on Psalm 125.

The Lord is always there when you call for help. Entrust your safety to Him who defends you from the attacks of the evil one. Reflection on Psalm 140.

Distressed over many things? Take pause and let God’s words of comfort wash over you. His grace and mercy are upon us. Reflection on Psalm 56.

Martin Luther wrote that "this Psalm is the sighing of the spirit. It rebukes the flesh, which murmurs against God that it is judged unrighteous and is so poorly governed, according to reason, that the godly, who ought to be helped, are allowed to suffer and the evil, who ought to be punished are elevated".
