Comparison is one of the enemy's most subtle and destructive weapons against believers—and most of us don't even realize how deeply it affects us. In this powerful conversation, Michael Miller shares the dramatic moment God woke him in the night with these words: "Comparison is killing my people, just like it killed me." What followed was a deep dive into Scripture that revealed comparison as the driving force behind some of the Bible's greatest tragedies—from Cain's murder of Abel to Saul's downfall to the Pharisees' envy that led to Jesus' crucifixion. In this episode, we discuss:-How comparison drove the crucifixion of Jesus (Matthew 27)-The devastating impact of "brother culture" vs. the freedom of "father culture"-Why King Saul's insecurity cost him everything-Peter's struggle with proving his worth and Jesus' restoration at the fire of coals-The danger of social media and comparing our messy reality to others' highlight reels-How to recognize pride and insecurity as the two trenches comparison leads us into-The antidote to envy: practicing thanksgiving for others' blessings-Why faithfulness matters more than success-How to discover and embrace this truth: "You make a good you"KEY SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:-2 Corinthians 10:12 - "When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding"-James 3:14-16 - "Where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing"-Matthew 18:5 - Receiving the wounded child within-John 21 - Jesus restores Peter at the fire of coalsWhether you're struggling with insecurity, constantly measuring yourself against others, or trying to wear someone else's armor instead of being authentically you—this message will set you free.ABOUT MICHAEL MILLER:Michael Miller is the founder and senior leader of Upper Room Dallas, a global prayer and worship movement that began in April 2010 in a small office space overlooking downtown Dallas. In this episode of Soul Sense from Samaritan's Well, Mark interviews Frank Healy, a Licensed Professional Counselor and life coach with over 40 years of experience who possesses the extraordinary ability to remember every single day of his life from age six to present—nearly 60 years of daily memories. Frank shares how this rare condition led him to develop specialized techniques for healing traumatic memories and releasing negative emotions, which he's documented in over 20 books including "Heal Your Memories, Change Your Life." Through personal stories and practical insights, Frank explains his "train metaphor" (thought factory, emotion junction, action city), the power of reframing beliefs, and why forgiveness—including self-forgiveness—is essential for moving forward. He emphasizes that while we can't change the past, we have the power to change how we relate to our memories and that dwelling on regret only reinforces negative patterns. You can find Frank's books on Amazon or visit his website at HealysHealing.com for more resources on emotional healing and personal transformation. Thanks for joining us for this podcast! Today's guest, Dr. Amanda McNeil, brings a remarkable combination of academic excellence and hard-won personal experience to the conversation about grief, loss, and healing. With a BA in Psychology from Southeastern University, an MA in Christian Counseling, and a Doctorate in Psychology and Theology from Heritage University and Seminary, Amanda has devoted over a decade to helping others navigate life's darkest seasons. She serves as an ordained Associate Pastor at City of Life Church in Orlando, Florida, where she was ordained in 2012, and is a Licensed Pastoral Counselor and Temperament Counselor with the NCCA. As a Certified SYMBIS Facilitator, she has guided hundreds of couples through premarital counseling over the past fourteen years, helping marriages thrive through healthy communication and intimacy.
But Amanda's credentials only tell part of her story. As a young teenager, she experienced devastating family tragedy when her father died unexpectedly, and it was this profound loss that ignited her passion for helping others find hope amid heartbreak. Together with her husband Justin and their miracle son, Amanda has overcome the challenges of blended family dynamics, personal tragedy, grief, and infertility—experiences that give her an authentic, authoritative voice of hope. Her latest book, Overcoming the Overcast: Navigating the Storms of Grief with God, is a love letter born from these experiences, offering practical wisdom, theological depth, and the reassurance that the Son of God is always shining, even when we cannot see or feel Him through the clouds.Due to a video issue, only Mark’s audio is available in this episode.

What happens when life delivers not one, but two devastating blows that leave you bedridden and questioning everything you thought you knew about God's goodness? Today's guest, Darci Steiner, knows this journey intimately. An author, inspirational speaker, and nutritionist, Darci faced her first major disability in 2001 after a life-threatening fall down the stairs that left her unable to walk or care for her young children. Just as she rebuilt her life—earning her Master's degree in Holistic Nutrition while bedridden and eventually experiencing complete healing—a second injury in 2018 brought her back to square one. But rather than break her, these twin trials became the foundation for profound spiritual growth and her award-winning book, "Beauty Beyond the Thorns: Discovering Gifts in Suffering." In today's conversation, Darci shares how she learned to differentiate between treating God like a genie in a bottle versus developing genuine trust, the practical steps that built her resilience five minutes at a time, and why she believes suffering can be a treasure hunt that draws us closer to God's heart. Her story is a masterclass in turning pain outward and finding purpose beyond our circumstances.

In this episode, life coach and author Jonathan Aslay shares his powerful journey of moving through grief, loss, and personal transformation to rediscover love and purpose. Once a successful corporate professional, Jonathan’s life was shaken by divorce, financial collapse, and the heartbreaking loss of his teenage son. Rather than being defined by despair, he chose to channel his pain into healing and growth, ultimately writing What the Heck is Self-Love Anyway? and dedicating his work to helping others navigate relationships after 40. Through his story, Jonathan offers profound insights on the importance of self-love, building relationships on friendship and intentionality, and choosing love daily—even in the face of life’s deepest challenges.

Chaya Garcia is a relationship expert from Atlanta who helps single, high-achieving women attract lasting love through a two-part approach: teaching self-love (forgiveness, acceptance, and boundaries) and identifying healthy versus unhealthy behaviors in men during dating. Her core philosophy is that "what we attract is not what we want, but who we are," emphasizing that without self-love, women are drawn to familiar but unhealthy relationship patterns that feel like chemistry but are actually trauma bonds. Through her coaching programs, she helps women break destructive dating cycles and recognize red flags like narcissism early in the dating process.Learn more at connectwithchaya.comDue to a video issue, only Mark’s audio is available in this episode. Thanks for joining us for this podcast! In this episode, we interview Jennisue Jessen, founder and CEO of Compass 31, an international counter-trafficking organization that has impacted over 240,000 individuals across 43 countries in its 14-year history. Jennisue was commercially sexually exploited from age 4 until 17, when God provided for her rescue and escape the day after a failed suicide attempt. Beyond her impressive organizational achievements and her time on the Presidential Advisory Council on Human Trafficking, Jennisue carries a testimony that speaks to the deepest places of human pain and the incredible power of divine redemption. Her work at Compass 31 is inspired by Jesus, who continues to set captives free, and it is His love that drives her fight for justice.
