#291: The Biggest Investing Stories and Stocks of 2025

As the year winds down, Emmet and Mike look back on their favorite investing stories, stocks, and turkeys from 2025.

Mike touches on the obvious: AI and the “pick-and-shovel” plays that have ridden its wave. Chipmakers and storage manufacturers are among the market’s biggest winners. Even Intel, long the ugly stepsister of Nvidia and AMD, is up nearly 80% thanks to government investment and the push to bring manufacturing back to the United States.

Emmet discusses the fallout from the Liberation Day tariffs and the subsequent market rally. It’s an important reminder for long-term investors that sell-offs are inevitable—as are recoveries.

Moving on to stocks, Emmet covers Wave Life Sciences (WVE), the latest pharmaceutical company to debut a weight-loss drug. Unlike Ozempic and Wegovy, WVE-007 is taken once and does not impact patients’ muscle mass, sending the company’s stock soaring. However, the drug is still in early testing and likely years away from market.

Mike heads to safer waters, pitching Google. Despite a slow start, its latest Gemini 3.5 model has Sam Altman sweating, while its tidy collection of existing businesses keeps printing cash. Unlike OpenAI and Anthropic, it doesn’t need to focus on monetization, giving it a leg up in the race for market share.

Finally, we bring you 2025’s biggest turkeys. Emmet goes with Oklo, the maker of small modular reactors. Its stock is up 15x over the last year despite not yet having a working reactor. Mike picks MicroStrategy, the riskiest way to buy Bitcoin. It’s down 40% year to date, while Bitcoin is down just 4%—lovely.

Our Horizon portfolio is a boutique service led by our co-founder and lead investor, Emmet Savage. According to 100-bagger expert Chris Mayer, “no one owns more 100-baggers than Emmet”.

Horizon will be repriced to $2999 in 2026 but for a limited time, Stock Club listeners can grab an exclusive discount and lock in our 2025 price.

#290: A Secret AI Stock to Buy Right Now?

Mike and Emmet are back and sharing their latest thoughts on the race to secure Warner Bros. Discovery. Despite a seemingly successful bid from Netflix to the tune of $82.7 billion, Paramount and its backers, David Ellison and Jared Kushner, are attempting a hostile takeover. With regulatory approval necessary for both potential deals, all roads lead through the White House.

Later, Emmet discusses an often-overlooked feature of our AI-powered present: advances in cancer screenings and treatment protocols. Researchers are currently testing AI’s ability to identify tiny biomarkers in blood that could catch cancer much earlier than current scans.

Lucky for our listeners, this tech isn’t restricted to research labs and can already be found on Wall Street. Emmet is a long-time investor in Guardant Health, a biotechnology company focused on liquid biopsy. Its tech helps match patients with effective treatments, detect relapse, and catch certain cancers early. With impressive Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) and revenue growth, it’s a great feel-good stock.

We wrap with another edition of “Follow Prophet.”

Our Horizon portfolio is a boutique service led by our co-founder and lead investor, Emmet Savage. According to 100-bagger expert Chris Mayer, “no one owns more 100-baggers than Emmet” and this week he has a particularly enticing stock.

#289: The Best Performing Stock in the S&P 500

The Magnificent Seven get all the love and attention, but it turns out 2025 is the year of hard drives. Western Digital (WDC) and its recent spinoff, Sandisk, are the best-performing stocks on the S&P 500.

After boosting nuclear energy, GPUs, and big data companies, the AI demand wave has now hit the digital storage space. For Western Digital, that translates to 51% year-over-year revenue growth and earnings per share (EPS) up 137%. Not bad for a company founded in 1970.

If hard drives don’t pique your interest, we also check in on the worst-performing stock of the year: Fiserv. Its unraveling includes dubious financial metrics, questionable leadership, and an unfortunate reliance on the Argentinian market. Tune in to hear all the juicy details.

Even better, Mike and Emmet pick which stock they’d rather invest in right now. It’s a brutal game of “Would you rather buy a pick-and-shovel business with an eye-watering valuation or a potential falling knife?”

To wrap up, you’ll also get a quick look at a new Prophet stock.

Our Horizon portfolio is a boutique service led by our co-founder and lead investor, Emmet Savage. According to 100-bagger expert Chris Mayer, “no one owns more 100-baggers than Emmet” and this week he has a particularly enticing stock.

#288: An International Multibagger Stock to Buy Right Now

After the recent launch of Nexus III and last week’s peek behind the curtain of Nexus I and II, we’re bringing you one more Nexus sample.

Fresh from Nexus’ latest crop of stocks, Mike pitches a business essential to the Australian mining industry—one with financials that would make even an investing master green with envy.

Later, Emmet walks through the latest acquisition drama in Hollywood. With Warner Bros. Discovery up for sale, who is most likely to snap up the legacy player—Larry Ellison’s Paramount/Skydance or the O.G. streamer Netflix?

Warner Bros. has an impressive catalog of IP, but it comes with a mountain of debt and a lack of strategic clarity. It’s possible the home of Harry Potter and DC Comics is more trouble than it’s worth—but time will tell.

If you’re looking for great international growth stocks to supercharge your portfolio, look no further than Nexus III.

To celebrate its launch, we’re offering a 50% discount for a limited time. Act quickly—this offer won’t last.

#287: 2 Stock with 10X Potential From Across the Globe

Mike and Emmet head back to foreign shores to talk about their favorite stocks from Nexus I and II in honor of the launch of Nexus III.

Nexus, MyWallSt’s international portfolio, aims to ensure every long-term, high-growth investor has geographic diversification. If the AI hype and the S&P’s recent sell-off have you nervously checking your brokerage account, it’s a great time to make sure your portfolio has some foreign exposure to steady the ship—especially as many of the United States’ most innovative companies remain private, preventing retail investors from taking a piece.

Mike breaks down Sweden’s MedCap AB, the star of Nexus I, which suffered a major sell-off at the beginning of the year but is back and better than ever. As a serial acquirer with an enviable management team, it’s an easy buy-and-hold player with diversification baked right in.

Emmet pitches Bulgarian Internet of Things (IoT) player Shelly Group. With steady revenue growth and a solid market position, it’s set to ride the smart-home wave straight to the bank. But can it survive larger tech companies eager to swallow its potential?

If you’re looking for great international growth stocks to supercharge your portfolio, look no further than Nexus III.

To celebrate its launch, we’re offering a 50% discount for a limited time. Act quickly—this offer won’t last.

#286: The S&P 500’s Most Undervalued Stock?

As SoftBank sells off its Nvidia holdings to free up capital for OpenAI, it might be time to look for something with a less eye-watering valuation.

Adobe, once one of Wall Street’s most beloved SaaS players, is down nearly 50% since 2024 despite rock-solid margins and consistent revenue growth. This has made it one of the cheapest stocks in the S&P 500 on a price-to-earnings basis and has bargain-hunting investors champing at the bit.

However, Mike argues that Adobe’s sell-off stems from the market’s pessimistic outlook on the brand following the rise of AI-generated imagery. While Adobe has invested heavily in its own AI-powered tools—namely Firefly—competition from OpenAI and Google may undercut Adobe’s dominance across the creative stack.

Do you think Adobe can stage a comeback, or is it a falling knife?

To wrap up, Emmet walks us through one of Prophet’s latest stock picks: UL Solutions Inc.

Our Horizon portfolio is a boutique service led by our co-founder and lead investor, Emmet Savage. #285: What Stocks to Buy in a Market Crash? (w/ Sean Tepper)

This week, Mike is joined by Sean Tepper, the founder of Tykr, a platform focused on turning Wall Street newbies into confident investors.

Like Mike and Emmet, Sean believes the stock market is a powerful tool for regular people to build life-changing wealth. From his favorite stock metrics to the importance of controlling your emotions and making regular deposits into your brokerage account, Sean provides invaluable insights on how investors can get ahead.

Importantly, Sean highlights that market downturns are excellent opportunities to lock in future gains — a reminder that even as the market gets frothy, it may actually be a good thing for long-term investors.

#284: The Warren Buffett Stock No One Is Talking About

In a surprise double feature, Mike and Emmet bring you two more “boring,” Peter Lynch–style businesses to ground your portfolio. In the wake of AI-fueled Big Tech layoffs, the market is undeniably frothy — so it’s a great time to take inspiration from some of the greatest investors of all time and pick up a few stocks that are complete snoozefests.

Mike brings you one of Warren Buffett’s largest holdings, Moody’s, which — despite its consistent performance and Berkshire’s long tenure of ownership — is one of the least-talked-about stocks on Wall Street. Emmet believes this is because it’s a ratings agency and quite mundane, but the high valuation probably doesn’t help either. Still, it operates in a triopoly, making it a dependable bedrock stock to keep on your watchlist.

Emmet then walks you through Ulta Beauty in the third installment of Follow Prophet. A long-time favorite among investors, the stock has been trading flat over the past few years and hopes to grow through international expansion, a partnership with Target, and exclusive products. Sign up to Prophet to see how long it stays in the portfolio.

#283: 2 Cheap Value Stocks to Buy Right Now

Stock Club is usually home to high-risk, high-reward tech stocks on the cutting edge of tomorrow, but this week, Emmet and Mike bring you two down-to-earth value stocks that hold a special place in their hearts. While the S&P is on a tear, these well-known names (at least to our listeners) have been down in the dumps, creating a great opportunity to add them to the foundation of your portfolio. Not only that, one of them even made it into Prophet’s portfolio.

Emmet goes back in time to break down the foundation of Europe’s greatest conglomerate, LVMH, and argues that the recent pullback makes for a great entry opportunity. With more than 70 brands spanning clothing, alcohol, leather goods, watches, and makeup, it’s the perfect way to get a taste of luxury.

Meanwhile, Mike heads in the opposite direction to talk about the earth’s greatest asset: water — or at least the infrastructure that provides it. Core & Main, long a favorite of the MyWallSt team, experienced a sell-off following its September earnings, but its long-term investment thesis remains strong.

Tune in to hear the full pitches.

Our Horizon portfolio is a boutique service led by our co-founder and lead investor, Emmet Savage. #282: Is Intel a Turnaround Play? — INTC Stock Analysis

Emmet and Mike are back to discuss the latest stock market moves.

Mike breaks down the U.S. government’s attempts to reduce reliance on foreign companies by investing in homegrown alternatives. The rare metals market is dominated by China, while semiconductor production is concentrated in Taiwan — a geopolitical risk the Trump administration isn’t willing to take. This has led the U.S. government to take stakes in Intel, MP Materials, Lithium Americas, and Trilogy Metals.

Later, Emmet walks us through Howmet Aerospace Inc., a stock Prophet has been holding for a few months and enjoying a 60%+ return. It’s part of a new segment called “Following Prophet.”

Our Horizon portfolio is a boutique service led by our co-founder and lead investor, Emmet Savage. #281: David Gardner’s Guide to Finding Life-Changing Investments and What Stocks He’s Buying

This week, Emmet is joined by an absolute legend of investing — co-founder of The Motley Fool, David Gardner. David is here to discuss his new book, Rule Breaker Investing: How to Pick the Best Stocks of the Future and Build Lasting Wealth, and share a few kernels of wisdom with the Stock Club fanbase.

Way back in the 1990s, Emmet stumbled upon David and his “6 Traits of a Rule Breaker Stock,” which helped him find opportunities like Netflix and MercadoLibre. David believes those six traits are still relevant today and can help investors find the next generation of life-changing stocks, even in the age of AI and algorithmic trading.

Tune in to hear why David believes great stocks are worth holding even after they’ve reached impressive highs, the importance of optimism, and how to hold a stock when pessimism persists. This is coming from the man who held Amazon through the early 2000s and several 50%+ declines — he knows what he’s talking about.

Finally, we get to hear his favorite small-cap stock and his three “desert island” stocks. Whether you’re a new investor or an old sage of Wall Street, this episode is worth a listen.

Our Horizon portfolio is a boutique service led by our co-founder and lead investor, Emmet Savage. #280: A Healthcare Stock on Emmet’s Watchlist

This week, Mike and Emmet venture onto the shores of the healthcare industry to identify some potential hundred-baggers.

Emmet breaks down Oscar Health, a stock often discussed by investors on X and Reddit. The company was founded to bring technological disruption to the health insurance market, particularly among providers and plans operating under the Affordable Care Act. It has solid revenue growth, narrowing losses, and a strong leadership team—but it could still fall victim to sector restructuring.

Mike takes on Medpace Holdings, a clinical research provider that helps biotechs outsource their testing and trials. The company has shown consistent growth and operates a business model that eliminates many of the risks of investing directly in pharma. However, its stock may now be prohibitively expensive after an eye-watering run-up earlier this year.

#278: How to Find Hidden, High Quality, Small-Cap Stocks

If you’re fatigued with the Magnificent Seven and their eye-watering valuations, maybe it’s time to look at some smaller market caps.

Pieter Slegers, founder of Compounding Quality, is back to discuss his new investing service, Tiny Titans. By focusing on small caps, an investor can outperform the market by about 4% a year. But by combining this with some of Slegers’ “Compounding Quality” characteristics, such as positive free cash flow and high insider ownership, that outperformance can increase to 6.5%.

Pieter’s goal is to achieve a yearly return of 15%, which would double your money every five years—perfect for long-term investors.

Tune in to hear about the importance of a stock checklist, what he looks for in a Tiny Titan, and to get a sneak peek at a stock on his watchlist.

To learn more about Pieter and the Tiny Titans service, head to https://www.tinytitansexclusive.net.

#277: Lululemon, the Market’s Most Undervalued Stock?

In 2023, you’d be hard-pressed to find a Wall Street analyst who wasn’t in love with Lululemon. The stock was a classic example of a long-term, buy-and-hold winner, with a strong brand, enviable profit margins, and plenty of expansion opportunities.

However, coming into 2025, the company’s façade started to crack, with revenue growth slowing to single digits and comparable in-store sales falling. It appears the American market may be reaching saturation, with competition hot on Lulu’s heels. On top of that, tariffs are taking a healthy bite out of the bottom line, leaving its EBITDA “on the floor.” The stock is now the worst-performing name on the S&P 500 in 2025.

That said, international markets—particularly in China—remain vibrant, and Lulu hopes to reinvigorate domestic sales through R&D innovation. Is the market’s pricing an overreaction, or a reasonable adjustment for a brand transitioning from growth to value?

Mike also touches on Microsoft’s agreement with recent IPO Nebius, which sent the stock soaring.

#276: Is Tesla’s Stock Still a Buy?

This week, we bring you a debate every investor has had over the last year: Is Tesla still a buy?

Mike starts off by breaking down the brand’s difficulties in Europe, with sales sliding across markets—particularly in the Nordics, Germany, and France. Some of this can be attributed to Musk’s political antics, but Mike argues that a bigger concern is the automaker’s inability to maintain its moat. Tesla faces more competition in the EV space than ever, especially from cheaper manufacturers in China, and has failed to provide either a more economical model or significant upgrades to existing tech to attract new buyers. There’s also the argument that Musk’s attention is divided between his many companies—not to mention his Twitter usage—which may have caused him to take his eye off the Tesla ball.

However, Emmet takes the counterpoint and explores the importance of Tesla’s speculative tech. The brand has just begun testing its robotaxis in Texas, and if successful, it could become the cheapest autonomous provider, as it isn’t reliant on LiDAR sensors. Additionally, Musk has promised that humanoid Optimus robots will eventually account for 80% of the company’s value—but it remains very unclear when they will come to market. As any long-term Tesla investor knows, Musk has a tendency to overpromise, especially when it comes to timelines.

We leave the question with you: Would you pick up Tesla shares today for the long term?

#275: 2 Stocks to Buy That Wall Street Is Ignoring

Mike and Emmet are back from Investicon with two phenomenal stock picks shared by the event’s expert panel.

Mike breaks down Chapters Group (ETR: CHG), a vertical market software acquirer modeled after Constellation Software. With ~98% customer retention, ~90% gross margins, and disciplined capital allocation, the business is scaling rapidly. Though not cheap, Compounding Quality’s Pieter Slegers believes its leadership and growth outlook make it compelling.

Later, Emmet covers a pick from AI investing expert Eric Bleeker: Ouster (OUST), a provider of lidar sensors essential for autonomous driving and robotics. It’s an intriguing pick-and-shovel play for the future of automation. While risky—since it could be disrupted by emerging technologies and some manufacturers (e.g., Tesla) have opted to move forward without it—lidar is still likely to enjoy a few decades of solid growth.

If you’d like to get a complete list of the stocks and ideas pitched at Investicon, new Horizon subscribers get a exclusive summary when they sign-up.

#273: Is Novo Nordisk a Buy? An Undervalued Stock or Falling Knife?

Novo Nordisk faced another tough earnings season, with the stock falling 30% after it revised its growth guidance due to increased competition from Eli Lilly and the (now-illegal) compounders. This has brought the stock down to a tantalizing 12x earnings. Is this a great time to pick up shares, or are investors risking catching a falling knife? Novo is attempting to fend off the competition by launching its own direct-to-consumer Wegovy service in the United States, which will sell its drugs for $499 a month—less than half the previous cash price. Combined with a new management team, Novo has a lot of irons in the fire. Perhaps these efforts will bolster its long-term outlook.

Later, Emmet discusses the impact of AI investment on the broader economy. Emerging in the midst of the 2023 market downturn, the AI race has spurred an extreme infrastructure spending boom from tech companies, especially the Magnificent Seven. They’ve pumped $151 billion into the economy so far. Is it a bubble, or the new normal in tech?

Mike and Emmet also touch on Elon Musk's $30 billion pay day. Is this infamous CEO still worth the premium?

Five lucky listeners can claim a complimentary ticket to Investicon when they sign up for Horizon. To hear more about the offer and claim your ticket, email us.
