
After the death of Amde Tsion I, he was succeeded by his son Seife Ar'ed (also known as Newaye Christos), and then his grandsons Newaye Mariam and Dawit I in turn. These late Medieval era Emperors presided over a key time in Ethiopian History where they continued to assert the power of the Imperial throne domestically, and began to reach out to friends a foes abroad more widely.
