כלום תורה עומדת מפני לומדיה   While one is learning he does not get up for his rebbi, because he is "תורה" and we say כלום תורה עומדת מפני לומדיה. Is this true even if he could continue learning while he stands? Why does someone have to stop learning for a מצוה שאי אפשר לעשות ע"י אחרים, why don’t we apply the rule of עוסק במצוה...? BEWARE!!! לכבוד חנוכה we are shtelling some heavy lomdus from R’ Shlomo Feivel Schustal. This is the "כפתור ופרח" of the תורה שבעל פה  that is represented in the menorah.  

לעמוד מפני ספר תורה Which is greater, כבוד ס"ת or כבוד ת"ח? Is כבוד ס"ת limited to standing for the ס"ת, or does it include all forms of כיבוד ומורא? Does it make a difference if the opening to the בימה is on the side or in the back? כבוד אבי אביו Is there a chiyuv kavod for your grandfather? What is the mekor? Is the chiyuv bein adam lamakom or bein adam lechaveiro? Can you think of 10 נפק"מ ? Part 2 - לפני עור במידות רעות * Why did ר' ישראל סלנטר  say that to do something that causes someone to express bad middos is not in the parameters of the issur לפני עור * Is there an issur to get angry (המעשה), or is the issur to have the middah of anger (המדה) ?Discover two more explanations for this puzzling saying from ר' ישראל סלנטר. כיבוד אב ואם – בין אדם לחבירו   או  בין אדם למקום * What is the מצוה of כיבוד אב ואם really about?* Why is it from the first 5 of the עשרת הדברות which are reserved for מצות בין אדם למקום?* Isn’t the mitzva about הכרת הטוב to your parents, why does this deserve to be הושווה כבודם לכבוד המקום? * Do you have to have actual respect for your parents, or is it enough to do acts of respect? * What is the purpose of all מצות that are about כבוד (ex כבוד ביהכ"נ, כבוד רבו, כבוד ס"ת…)?* Can I be מוחל as I please, or is there a criterion to my מחילה? How does this mitzva relate to חינוך הבנים? Enjoy!!

* Why does the גמרא illustrate "עד היכן כיבוד אב ואם"  with a story of an עכו"ם?* Why was a פרה אדומה the appropriate reward for כיבוד אב ואם?* The  גמרא  on .לב also asks "עד היכן כיבוד אב ואם" and gives a different answer?   Enjoy!!

  * Why is he called a "אינו מצווה ועושה", we find that גויים are מחוייב in all מצות שכליות?* Did his father really not want to be woken up, and lose all that business?* The חיוב  of כיבוד אב  is not מחייב  the son to lose money ("משל אב") so why did Dama take such a huge loss? Enjoy!!

אשה נשואה פטורה מכיבוד אב Is the פטור  only when there is a conflict with the husband or does an אשה נשואה have a blanket היתר? What is the מקור of the right of the husband to stop his wife from doing כיבוד אב ואם? Does the husband have a “זכות” or is it a "חיוב כבוד לבעלה" ?  Enjoy!!

חינוך בדעות וחינוך במצות Our גמרא says that the age of chinuch is 16-22 or 18-24. Is teaching children less than that age not chinuch?? What is it?? We know that there is a מצות חינוך  on all children less than bar mitvah age,  to buy him a lulav, sit in the sukkah… is that not "חינוך"?? Why is the proper time for marriage coincide exactly with the age of חנוך לנער ע"פ דרכו?? Find out the two dinim in "חינוך" as explained by the Brisker Rav. Enjoy!!
