On today's episode we go over the importance of taking your social media presence seriously as a musician and how not doing so can negatively affect you. If you're a hip hop artists then you're probably well aware of the big percentage of artists who aren't willing to learn or properly use social media. For example, there's people who claim it's all about the "algorithms" or you have to "pay to play" or my favorite, the ones who use social media as their venting/flaunting platform. I'm sure you've come across it at least once. Bottomline, this type of common behavior in the music world is absurd considering these people represent a part of the hip hop culture regardless if they have respect for it or not. When you're a musician looking for recognition on a bigger level, people put you on a higher standard and also potentially look up to you as inspiration. Imagine the person you look up has a page full of angry rants about how noone shows him love, or has a page that looks like a 12 year old put together their bios and about info. Or even worse, a feed full of themselves wearing designer clothes or photoshoots of them leaning against foreign cars (that they do not own btw) with endless hashtags that say things like "drip", "making moves", "flexin", I'm sure you get the picture. This episode is for artists wondering how to not be "that guy". We all know the market is oversaturated with rappers so the last thing we need is more ego inflation amongst rappers who have yet to take their career seriously. We need more creators who are willing to put the social status and image of materialism to the side, as artists we need to be willing to provide value to our audience thru the content we post on social media. Not saying we can't have fun with a meme or two or a fun rant that shows our personality a little more, but if that's all you manage to post then more people are going to tend to believe you're not serious about your career. After listening to this episode do yourself a favor and scroll thru your feeds on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Take a look at your activity and if any of this episode pertains to you I'd suggest stepping back an reorganizing your social media approach. We're all learning everyday how to truly make a presence online the correct way but the most important word to remember in what you should be posting is "value". The more valuable content you have the more engaging it will be to your followers which in turn will make you that much more noticeable on social media. Not to mention, the more reach you'll have toward "cold" audiences who have no idea who you are yet. Catching the eyes of a crowd you haven't pulled in yet is gonna be one of the biggest moves towards making your success happen. On the next episode we'll dive further into reaching new audiences, how to properly pitch your music, also how to avoid spamming new and current audiences on social media. Overthinking is toxic and should be avoided as often as possible if you're trying to accomplish something great. Take it from one of the biggest overthinkers, once we learn to overcome our own doubts is we can confidently create a road to success.
