Today on The Be Ruthless Show, I'm joined by Deb Krier, the Founder of tryingnottodie.LIVE. Deb is a seasoned entrepreneur and cancer advocate who supports high-performing professionals navigating cancer with clarity, strength, and real talk. Her story is powerful, her mission is personal, and this conversation is one you won’t forget.
About Deb:
Deb is a seasoned entrepreneur, cancer advocate, and the visionary force behind tryingnottodie.LIVE. She combines her business acumen, lived experience, and certification as an Integrative Cancer Coach to support high-performing professionals through one of life's most disruptive challenges. With more than two decades of experience in communications, marketing, and public relations, Deb has guided large corporations, small businesses, and nonprofits through impactful storytelling and strategic branding. But her most powerful work began after life threw her a curveball-or three.
Following diagnoses of Stage 4 triple-positive breast cancer in 2015, basal cell carcinoma in 2021, and thyroid cancer in
2023, Deb transformed her personal journey into a mission to help others thrive. In 2022, she launched tryingnottodie.LIVE, a platform dedicated to empowering those impacted by cancer with community, resources, and real talk.
Today, Deb serves as a strategic advisor to business owners and executives facing cancer, offering guidance to help them stay strong, lead effectively, and maintain clarity in both life and work during treatment and recovery.

In this final episode of the year, I explore what it really means to expect the unexpected, especially when grief and life don’t follow a neat timeline. Marking the eight-year anniversary of losing Jim, I share honest reflections on how unpredictable waves can still hit, why “being strong” doesn’t mean being unaffected, and how readiness matters more than control. With practical, real-world perspective, I offer a grounded way to move into the new year without pressure or toxic positivity, focusing instead on anchors that help you keep going when life gets messy.

When people feel protective, they can accidentally turn into a wrecking ball. In this episode, I discuss what it looks like to lead with love when your work is being questioned, your name is being echoed, or the internet is doing what it does best: jumping to conclusions and throwing stones.
This is a boundary episode, a mental health episode, and a humanity episode. Not a callout. Not a pile-on. A reset.
What we cover:
Key takeaways
To the majority of the world, it's Giving Tuesday - a global day of generosity. To me - it's the beginning of National Grief Awareness Week - an invisible awareness week (among many) that I've been working for years to get legally added to all calendars.
And then Griefhab created our own.
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I am thrilled to share our 2026 news with you. For years, we have brought our unique virtual services to clients everywhere. We are now bringing our very first in person healing center to Traverse City, Michigan in early 2026.
Hiring licensed clinicians. Monthly in person events. Individual, family, and our one of a kind group services. Our virtual services will continue, as always!
We will now also be able to serve our community, the community that has embraced us, National Grief Awareness Week, and the 3rd Annual Healing Together Through the Holidays, for any and all loss, grief and mental health needs.

I’m perplexed - and so unbelievably grateful. On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I discuss the power of prayer - because somehow, Dallas’s tumor disappeared.
The oncologist is equally perplexed.
We’ll be discussing all of these healing modalities at Griefhab’s 3rd annual Healing Together Through the Holidays. And the pre event begins today.
If you haven’t registered - this should make you consider. The power of prayer. Affirmations. Community. Connection. Thank you all ❤️

On today's episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I discuss finding our purpose in the pain. Finding our why. Griefhab's 3rd Annual Healing Together Through the Holidays is less than 2 weeks from now. Exactly two weeks from now, Lil Bo's (in Traverse City) will be hosting Benefit Bingo - in honor of National Grief Awareness Week.
I'll be Do(ing) it for Dallas - who is dealing with a mass that we're seeing a specialist for next week. Join us - and Do it for You!

If you know me - you know I come up with these things pretty whimsically - FOR YOU. If you’ve been feeling more tired, foggy, or emotional lately — you’re not imagining it. Science shows that seasonal changes can intensify grief, depression, and anxiety. A University of Michigan study found that on high-pollen days, suicide deaths rose by 7.4%, and among those already struggling with mental health, that number climbed to 8.6%.
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I unpack how physical triggers like allergies, shorter days, and disrupted sleep impact emotional healing — and how to care for your mind and body when both are carrying the weight of grief.

California just passed a first-of-its-kind law requiring social media platforms to display mental health warning labels for users under 18 — a move that’s being compared to cigarette warnings.
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I break down what the law really does, whether it will make a difference, and what actually helps when it comes to protecting young minds.
This isn’t just about teens — it’s about all of us learning to set boundaries in a world that profits from our attention.
Because awareness is a start — but action changes everything.

It’s not only Taco Tuesday, it’s National Taco Day - did you know??? It’s also Mental Illness Awareness Week, National Inner Beauty Day (a day supporting human trafficking survivors) and Ageism Awareness Day.
And so many people hide their stories.
On SEASON EIGHT’S first episode, I discuss why it’s important today more than ever to be REAL. In a world with Amazon orders available on our tv's now 😳 and social media portraying everything pretty and horrific - why do so many people “fake it until they make it?” Why is saying “help” so difficult?

As we remember 9/11, I can’t help but feel like this world hasn’t come very far.
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I honor those lost on 9/11 - as well as those lost yesterday.
Charlie Kick was fatally shot while addressing an audience on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah yesterday while a student at Evergreen High School in Colorado wounded two classmates before taking his own life.
This is the world we live in.
There are countless other tragedies that didn’t make the news, and while guns are the issue, hate is the root of the problem.
Tune in to hear an important conversation about doing better, communicating better, walking away better, apologizing better, disagreeing better, and just being better.

We don’t learn in school how to talk about what’s bothering us—but we should. Holding things in doesn’t just disappear; it builds until it comes out sideways. Maybe it’s an argument, a mistake at work, or an explosion years later.
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I discuss why bottling emotions is so damaging, what it does to our health and relationships, and how we can start expressing ourselves in healthier ways.

Growth comes in many forms - some of it consciously, some unconsciously, and some even comes from others.
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I discuss how even the messy parts - the rumors, the gossip, the hate — can actually fuel growth. Without realizing it, those who try to tear us down are the very people building our resilience, patience and strength.
Because growth doesn't always come wrapped in pretty packages. Sometimes it comes from the fire, the struggle, and yes — even from the haters.

Today, I’m talking about something that no one wants to think about—but everyone needs to hear. Because what you don’t know CAN hurt you. And in 2025, addiction doesn’t look like what it used to. Even prescription pills like Adderall are being laced. Even household items are being misused. If you think addiction ‘couldn’t happen in your house,’ I need you to listen harder!

This isn't your typical episode of The Be Ruthless Show. I'm not coming to you just as your host or as a Psychologist. I'm speaking not just as a gruef expert, but as a member of the Traverse City Community.
Yesterday something unimaginable happened at our local Walmart. First responders swiftly apprehended the suspect and saved the eleven victims with bravery and skill.
This episode is for those who were there. For those who weren’t but were also shaken. For all of us trying to navigate this world where going to the store turns into a tragedy. And for the first responders who run towards tragedy while everyone is running away.
