Professor Elizabeth Carr

Elizabeth Carr, Professor of Dental Hygiene from The University of Mississippi joined us for an insightful episode!


Elizabeth Carr was appointed as Chair of Dental Hygiene in 2019. She earned a Baccalaureate degree in dental hygiene at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in 2000, a Masters of Dental Hygiene from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2010, and a Doctorate of Health Administration from UMMC in 2015. A native of the Mississippi Delta, she worked in private practice as a registered dental hygienist in Cleveland and Madison, MS before joining the department of dental hygiene as a full-time instructor in 2006. She currently holds the position of Professor and Chair of Dental Hygiene, and is the Director of the Mississippi Population Oral Health Collaborative.


We discussed the challenges students face at dental school and their early years and how we can build resilience.

We also touched on the importance of lifelong learning for clinicians and educators and the valuable role of a dental hygienist in the wider dental team.
