The Big Beatles Sort Out Presents: The Big 60s Sort Out!
Yes, for season 4 we have taken a look at the decade that made (or was made?) by The Beatles, by ranking every UK number one, looking for sneaky Beatles links, and generally putting ourselves in the world where they crafted their legacy.
However! There is more! We have looked at the NME and Melody Maker unique hits, and now we are turning our attention to the Disc magazine chart in this one off special, covering several songs that haven't yet appeared anywhere else (you'll just have to listen to find out what!).
And that's a wrap for Season 4! So have a happy festive period and New Year and we will be back in 2026 with season 5 (at some point)!

Hello! We are taking a small detour from looking at the 60s UK number 1s to chat about the recent reissue of the Beatles Anthology documentary on Disney +, plus some other recent news about the casting of the upcoming movies, and a whole new Hamburg centric drama coming to the BBC.
In this episode we mentioned a website by a chap called Daniel Earwicker who has taken on the mammoth task of comparing the original DVD release with the Disney+ versions. His website can be found here:

We will be back next week to tie up some loose ends with yet more alternative 60s pop charts! See you there!

Yes, for season 4 we have taken a look at the decade that made (or was made?) by The Beatles, by ranking every UK number one, looking for sneaky Beatles links, and generally putting ourselves in the world where they crafted their legacy.
However! There is more! In this mid-season season, we are looking at the songs that topped the NME chart but missed out on the 'official' top spot of the Record Retailers chart (don't worry, Paul explains it all at the top of the episode) - Basically, we have another 7 episodes of 60s hits to rank!
This week, 1969 part 2:
Stevie Wonder - Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday
Kenny Rogers - Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town

Hello! We are back with a special report from our recent visit to Hamburg!
We spent 3 nights in Hamburg in early September 2025 visiting some of the Beatle sights and the amazing City itself, and this is our thoughts on what we found, recorded out and about and debriefing in the hotel.
We hope you enjoy - it's a first for us doing a travel episode like this, so excuse us if we ramble on a bit here and there, it was a lot to take in!
We will be back again soon looking at the NME number 1s and slotting them into the 60s chart from series 5.
Danke fürs Zuhören!
Hello! We are back with a special listening to the new remixed version of Free As A Bird featuring the 'cleaned up' Lennon vocals using the same MAL technology used on 'Now And Then' - Is it a change for the better? Listen to find out what we thought and for a general catch up on all things Beatles doing the rounds at the moment!
To listen along, here is the original 1995 version:

And here is the 2025 new version:
https://music.apple.com/gb/song/free-as-a-bird-2025-mix/1834474212
I'll see if I can also pull these in as linked songs on the Spotify feed.
Enjoy, and we will be back again soon! Bye! Beatles!
We are back with another mid season extra - this time we are discussing Episode 5 of the Beatles Cartoon, featuring the songs 'Baby's in Black', 'Misery', 'I'll Get You' and 'Chains' along to lots of silly antics involving vampires, mostly.
At the time of publishing, this link was a good place to watch the episode: https://archive.org/details/ep5_20240123
We hope you enjoy our little chat and we will be back with more specials over the coming weeks and months!
This episode is a mini-documentary made by Paul that was originally featured in episode 54 of the fantastic Winter Of Discontent podcast. That show looks in forensic detail at the Nagra tapes of the Get Back sessions and Paul contributed this research package - all about the Lawrence Wright music catalogue, to the show. It's a ten minute look into the background of why Dick James was so excited to share news of this publishing purchase coup with the boys, as seen in the Get Back documentary. If you enjoy this little snippet, then you'll love Winter of Discontent, so look it up in the usual pod places.
We will be back with more specials over the next few months so stay tuned!

We are done! And in this special 'wrap up' episode, we listen to some of your 1969 album recommendations, Paul reveals his Top 10, and we ponder if we have actually reached any conclusions about the effect the 60s had on The Beatles, and vice versa!
We will be back with occasional specials over the remainder of 2025 and with a new series sometime in 2026! Have a great summer!
