Are the Lakers Frauds? Thunder Inevitable, Magic’s Future & Wild NFL Twist

Lakers fans… are we being fooled?

In this episode of The Cochrane Show, John Cochrane is joined by Jason Perkins (Perko) from Brisbane, Australia to unpack a huge couple of days in sports – from the NBA Cup quarterfinals to a bizarre NFL quarterback move.

We kick things off with the Lakers getting destroyed by the Spurs, ask if their record is fraudulent, and dive into why a heliocentric, “one-man show” offense (Luka, Harden, etc.) struggles in the playoffs. Then we shift to team basketball – why European hoops, the Boomers, and even the WNBA often play a better brand of ball.

From there we hit:

  • Orlando Magic vs Miami Heat and whether the Magic might actually be better without Franz Wagner next to Paolo
  • Are the Knicks real contenders in the East or just beneficiaries of a weak conference?
  • Could the Thunder be inevitable and on pace to become one of the best regular-season teams ever?
  • What should the Bucks do with Giannis if the writing is on the wall?
  • A wild “what if” trade scenario: Giannis to New York and what it would cost
  • The Lakers legacy question: Is LeBron truly a “Lakers legend” and does he get his jersey retired in LA?

Then we turn hard right into the NFL:

  • The shock move of Philip Rivers to the Colts after years out of the league
  • Can the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots really crash the AFC party?
  • Are the Rams and Packers headed for a deep playoff run?
  • Why sudden success teams often need one more leap before they’re true Super Bowl threats

If you love long-form hoops and NFL talk with honest, unfiltered opinions, this one’s for you.

👉 Drop your take in the comments:

  • Are the Lakers frauds or legit contenders?
  • Are the Thunder already the next great dynasty?
  • Would you retire LeBron’s jersey in LA?

Are the Warriors… MID? | Quarter-Season Recap, Kuminga Trades & NBA Cup Picks

The Cochrane Show goes full Golden State Warriors therapy session.

#StephenCurry #NBApodcast #BasketballTalk #NBACup #InSeasonTournament #OKCThunder #TheCochraneShow

John and Lorne break down a quarter of the 2025–26 season, ask the big question — are the Warriors just… mid? — and wrestle with what to do about Jonathan Kuminga, Steve Kerr’s system, and a roster full of 6'3" guards.

They dig into the ugly Pelicans game, Pods’ growing pains, GP2’s effort, Draymond’s “triple single” era and whether the front office has to make a Kumingatrade — or if he’s actually a future building block.

Plus: in-season NBA Cup predictions, OKC’s insane pace, whether the Thunder should chase the 73–9 record, and why a Heat–Magic matchup is pure basketball nerdery.

In this episode:

  • Emotional rollercoaster of being a Warriors fan right now
  • Why the offense looks broken without Steph Curry
  • Pods, Moody & the “you miss shots, you sit” rotation problem
  • Kuminga: trade chip or future franchise cornerstone?
  • Wild trade machine ideas: Gafford, Dylan Brooks, AD and more
  • Steve Kerr’s system vs the actual roster he has
  • Are the Warriors too small and too old to contend?
  • OKC’s historic start & chasing 73–9
  • NBA Cup (in-season tournament) predictions and score guesses
  • Which overachieves more: Raptors or Heat?

00:00 – Intro
Golden State Warriors edition of The Cochrane Show. Are we in for another “mediocre” season?

  • 01:00 – The emotional trauma of being a Warriors fan
False hope, hot starts, injuries, and the same cycle every year.
  • 03:00 – The ugly Pelicans game & G-League vibes
No Steph, no Murray, bricks everywhere, and the offense looks completely unnatural.
  • 06:00 – Pods & Moody problem
Missed free throws, wrong reads, weird postgame quotes and how missed shots are bleeding into effort and defense.
  • 10:00 – Too many short guards & a height cap joke
GP2, Pods, Melton, Seth, Buddy, a million 6'3" guys and no size against long, athletic teams.
  • 14:00 – What’s the Warriors’ identity now?
System still built for Steph, but role players asked to be Steph-lite. Talk of bringing back the old “bench just tie the minutes” style.
  • 18:00 – Kuminga: keep, repair, or trade?
The two-timeline failure, how he’s being framed as the problem, and why he’ll probably blow up if traded.
  • 23:00 – Trade Machine Time
Gafford idea, Dylan Brooks fantasy, Anthony Davis hypotheticals, and the reality of second-apron salary rules.
  • 30:00 – Old teams, titles and reality
Oldest championship teams, how rare it is, and whether this aging Warriors core can still actually contend.
  • 33:00 – Draymond, triple singles & podcast drama
Kenyon Martin beef, player pods everywhere, and why Draymond just needs to hoop.
  • 36:00 – In-Season Tournament / NBA Cup predictions
OKC vs Suns, Lakers vs Spurs, Raptors vs Knicks, Heat vs Magic – score predictions and bracket talk.
  • 42:00 – OKC, 73–9 and chasing history
Do the Thunder go for the record? Is that even smart after what happened to the 73–9 Warriors?
  • 45:30 – Will the Warriors make a trade & where do they finish?
Panic trades, Dunleavy’s approach, Kumingatimeline, and John’s guarantee: no play-in for the Warriors.
  • 47:30 – Outro & tease
Hinting at future officiating rant and more Warriors coverage.

NBA Thanks Giving Tier List

In today’s episode, we’re breaking down the entire NBA into four brutally honest tiers:

🏆 The Adult Table
🍽 The Dinner Party Guests
🤪 The Weird Uncle
☠️ The Buzz Kill

We take a hard look at the league from top to bottom and decide which teams are legit contenders, which teams are fun but flawed, which teams are total chaos, and which teams need to turn the lights off and start preparing for the draft.

This is one of our favorite episodes of the year — a full league reset, packed with takes, debates, and a few surprises along the way.

🔥 Teams we talk about:
Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, and every other team in the league.

🎙 What to expect:
• Real contender conversations
• Which teams are secretly rising
• Who’s fooling themselves
• Who’s one injury away from disaster
• Who should shut it down NOW
• Live updates as we move teams across tiers

Whether your team ends up at The Adult Table or gets stuck as The Buzz Kill, this is the full state of the NBA right now.

👇 Drop your own tier list in the comments — tell us which teams we got right and which ones we completely butchered.
