I am a big Elvis Presley fan. It must have been an amazing time in the early 1950s to be a teenager, with the advent of both transistor radios and rock and roll. Elvis was a game changer, and was the right person at the right time to push this new music into the stratosphere.

This year I was back in a classroom after being a band teacher for 20+ years. Believe it or not, I'm really glad to have had the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and work on my teaching skills in a different way. Speaking of schools, our area is still doing in-person learning and I for one am grateful. Kids need to be in school, and it is the best, and safest, place for them, in my opinion.

As I say goodbye to my old podcast, The Stueytunes Show, and move on to my next project, The Way-Back Music Machine Podcast, my co-host Aaron Badgley and I are very excited to get the new show off the ground, and it will be launching on Monday, March 29. Our area (Eastern Ontario) is moving back into a COVID red zone, which means further restrictions are on the way. Hopefully they don't last long!

I just turned 52...I don't mind being in my 50s at all, to be honest. You've had a chance to get most of your big mistakes out of the way by this point, and can just enjoy what you are doing, with a bit more time to explore new hobbies and interests. I'm going to be launching a new podcast in a few weeks as well!

Since I am a high school teacher by day, I talk about what some of the takeaways should be from the current pandemic protocols that we have in place in our schools. We should learn from this experience, and use the good stuff going forward.

Since the pandemic started, playing a musical instrument is now considered to be a dangerous activity, which in my opinion is incredibly sad. Eventually band rooms will reopen in our schools, and I'm looking forward to that day. On today's episode, I explain why I'm willing to wait until making music can be considered a joyful, uplifting activity once again.
