Kohra (1964) is one of the most atmospheric and intellectually rich mystery films of classic Hindi cinema. Starring Waheeda Rehman and Biswajeet, directed by Biren Nag, written by Dhruva Chatterjee, and produced by Hemant Kumar, Kohra stands apart for its haunting visuals, psychological depth, and poetic suspense.
Inspired by Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca, the film transforms a Gothic Western novel into a deeply Indian cinematic experience. Fog-filled corridors, candle-lit interiors, eerie silences, and unforgettable music like “Yeh Nayan Dare Dare” and “Jhoom Jhoom Dhalti Raat” create an atmosphere where fear, memory, and guilt merge seamlessly.
This video explores:
– The story and themes of Kohra– Waheeda Rehman’s restrained and powerful performance– Dhruva Chatterjee’s elegant suspense writing– Hemant Kumar’s music as a narrative force– Marshall Braganza’s masterful cinematography and use of mist and shadow– Why Kohra remains a landmark in Hindi psychological thrillers
Kohra is not just a mystery film. It is a meditation on fear, love, and the shadows of the past — and one of the finest examples of Gothic storytelling in Indian cinema.
If you enjoy classic Bollywood, intelligent thrillers, and film history, this is a must-watch analysis.

He spent over 40 years in prison, fighting for India’s freedom with courage, compassion, and an unshakable belief in the power of Ahimsa. His autobiography “My Life and Struggle” remains a powerful document of truth and resistance.
This video honours Badshah Khan’s life, legacy, and his extraordinary contribution to India’s freedom movement — a warrior who proved that nonviolence is the highest form of strength.

Jawaharlal Nehru’s The Discovery of India is often celebrated as a masterpiece of modern Indian thought. But what did Nehru really “discover”? In this video, we critically examine how Nehru reinterpreted India’s ancient civilisation through a Western rationalist lens — admiring spirituality but filtering it through the lens of science and modernity. Was his India rooted in dharma, or in modern liberal ideals? Did his vision bridge East and West, or distance India from her spiritual core?
This short offers a balanced critique of Nehru’s civilisational narrative — comparing it with Savarkar’s Six Glorious Epochs and Gandhi’s Hind Swaraj.

Several Indian religious traditions associated with Vedānta offer conflicting descriptions of the ultimate reality, Brahman. A prominent example is found in the Bhedābheda Vedānta tradition, which posits that Brahman is both different (bheda) and non-different (abheda) from the world and individual selves. At first glance, this appears to be a contradictory statement. However, most Bhedābheda Vedānta thinkers, such as Bhaskara (8th-9th Century), Nimbārka (13th Century?), and Vijñānabhikṣu (16th Century), attempt to reconcile the contradiction, asserting, for example, that Brahman is different from the world and individual selves in one sense, yet non-different in another, distinct sense of “difference.” A notable exception is Jīva Gosvāmī, a leading theologian of the Caitanya Vaiṣṇava school (15th century). According to a widely accepted interpretation, Jīva accepts the contradiction directly, adding that it is inconceivable (acintya). He termed his school Acintya Bhedābheda. Despite textual evidence supporting this view, other evidence from Jīva’s writings and subsequent commentaries suggests that his theology might be reconstructed using a more traditional, contradiction-avoiding approach. This raises fascinating theological issues. The purpose of this paper is to provide an integrated interpretation of Jīva’s Bhedābheda Vedānta, one that synthesizes both interpretations while remaining faithful to the key elements of his ontology. This will be based on a version of Graham Priest’s Logic of Paradox (LP), which I refer to as (a) Logic of Partial Truth (LPT). The result is a paraconsistent and (weakly) dialetheic account of Jīva’s Bhedābheda Vedānta theology.

Within Jainism, an ancient Indian religion based on nonviolence (ahimsā), non-possessiveness (aparigraha), and austerity, farming and flora hold a complex and nuanced place. Although the teachings of Jainism emphasize compassion for all living things (Jain, 2021), Jains face moral dilemmas when it comes to farming, as it involves harming insects, soil organisms, and plants. Although no Jain would imagine slaughtering their livestock to sell meat, tilling the land to grow food may or may not be considered violent, as we will see in this essay. This study examines how Jains reconcile their agricultural practices with their religious teachings by analyzing the historical, theological, and cultural perspectives on flora and farming. This article sheds light on Jainism’s distinctive response to the ethical and environmental challenges of agricultural life by examining scriptures, moral discourse, and modern practices related to vegetation. The essay’s final section explores a related issue of plants and trees. It emphasizes how deeply Jainism reveres plants and trees, seeing them as representations of spiritual power, patience, and optimism. All 24 Tīrthaṅkaras, fordmakers, achieved enlightenment under particular tree species, each of which is named and revered. As part of Jainism’s spiritual and ethical obligations, the section emphasizes environmental preservation and tree planting, promoting sensitivity toward nature.
